....because the handouts are better on this side of the river/fence.
Well, it is not that easy. We have to take a long look at the laws put in place 250+ years ago.
80% of the country was illiterate. Immigrants were stampeding into our city's that at that time had no public utilities at all. Disease was rampent, the fire department was volunteer with the bucket brigade. The police were thugs, murderers and extortionists.
Most immigrants from Europe, Asia, Africa slave trade, could not speak English.
However, as bad as things were in the cities, they were worth the problems of those getting here as life was So much worse in their birth country.
We had to jump start this country somehow, we had the French in the south Spanish in the west and Russia owned Alaska. No one knew what was to our west or North West or had traveled into our Plains area.
The law that everyone born on American soil was an American was a tool needed to, at that time gain loyality from the first generation imergrents and their family.
Our founding fathers were the first public relation genious to come down the pike.
Most of our laws were written by people that would never live to see the 19 th. century.
We have broken with tradition before---Anti-slavery-womans right to vote-proabition and the repeal- abortion rights { I have yet to see that covered in the bill of rights}.
We are in a quagmire here about how to controll others that are now using our own laws against us for their gain.
What about the children I hear from every quarter. Well, what about the children, is it not time that the parents face facts that if they break the law their children will suffer .?
One cannot have any kind of society where adults hide behind the backs of their children using them as a shield against their own wrong doing.
A small change in our laws will do US no harm, say-both parents have to be citizens for the child to be considered a natural born American-----OOOOPS------Where would that leave Obama.
Perhaps I need to re-think this, sometimes my mouth gets ahead of my brain.
