What Father's Day Means To Me
« on: June 21, 2009, 02:06:35 AM »
NOT VERY DAMNED MUCH

My father passed away in 1988 while I was stationed in Japan.

My oldest son is stationed in Germany with the 173rd Abn Bde, we rarely ever hear from him and his family.  I know he has his own life to live and his own family to care for.

My two youngest sons live at home - the older of the two delivers newspapers in the morning and attends Vo-Tech using the GI Bill, while the youngest is in the Army Reserves and is currently at Fort Hunter-Liggett attending annual training.

For me it's just another day of the year.

Well, yeah, sir, Father's Day is just another day on the calendar.

But really, every day should be Father's Day, because their heirs and heiresses really do think of their paternal ancestor every day of the year.

I know.

BR. It sounds to me like you have done your job! I really think when boys grow up and start to get out into the world on their own they have a tendency to not call their parents as often as they should. I know I have been guilty of this as well. The thing I always remind my dad about is he is with me at all times. The things he taught me and the bits of advice given here and there are forever burned into my psyche making me the man I am today! I don't tell him often enough how thankful I am to have been raised by a strong male. My dad can be a rough gruff sob at times but I never doubted his love for a second. Thank you for giving me a slap upside the head I need to call pop and see if he wants to go chase some little white balls sometime today! Happy Fathers Day to all the dads you guys are your sons first heros....remember that. :cheersmate:

I'm sorry about your father passing and your son being in Germany.

I think Father's Day is about respecting fathers if nothing else. Happy Father's Day.
Happy Upcoming July 4th. Our country is still one of the best in the world.

I like it.  The bummer is it always comes the week after my birthday.  I rarely get to double dip.

I had a great, if not best evah! Fathers Day. I'll post pics in the Lounge.

Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

Father's day means little to me any more. I feel more like a "sperm donor" than a father nowadays.

Is that by choice or circumstance Thor?

I've lost two, one due to a drunk driver, the other one in my arms. I was there to do CPR but it was a massive heart attack and he didn't make it.

My kids know this and call me to make sure I know I am in their thoughts on Fathers Day.
