I don't buy this, the whole idea reeks of some self-help thing the DUmmie read. Most of these nutcases from the Island have an overvalued sense of worth, and have shown through their own posts that they have problems interacting with real people.
Just another DUmmie trying to fit into the "I have mental problems too " crowd on the Island.
I maintain my original (amateur) diagnosis:
The extremist liberal mind is defined by the need to alleviate their personal tedium. They are nothings, nobodies and never-woulds and they know it on a subconscious level.
Hence the need to belong to a group, i.e. the collectivist instinct. They have strength in numbers and misery loves to commiserate. Dissenting opinion is rejected because it threats their constructs.
Now if this group is proclaiming truth-to-power, social justice, rising above etc etc etc then they get to do more than simply alleviate their own feelings of inferiority, they get to be the Davids crusading against the Goliaths.
Of course, they can never blame themselves for their inferiority, it MUST be somebody else's fault: the rich, the GOP, the Church, Dick Cheney's personal assassination squad...the bigger and more ominous the threat the greater their own personal bravery in opposing the presumed menace.
What this thread betrays is a minor glimpse into the truth they are shielding themselves from.
Conservatives by contrast are doers and individualists by nature. They're happy because they find value in their own efforts and a social group is for--well--social interaction, not self-validation. A conservative can be the very sort Montaigne wrote of when he spoke of a man with his feet under his own table eating his own food grown on his own land. That man is happy and takes friends because he enjoys sharing his own beer more than drinking alone but he prefers other men of the same character rather than the habitually needy.
But I could be wrong.
