Well, it seems to me if one's a primitive, one has very good reasons to feel inferior.

Anyone else dealing with an impaired sense of 'self'?

My therapist noticed that I tend to define myself almost entirely through my interactions with others.

He said "Imagine everyone else is gone from your life. What's left?

I thought, and replied "Not much."

I am now working to find out who I am independent of others. My first assignment is to write down 16 defining qualities of qb.

1. That seems to be an Extrovert vs. Introvert thing.

The terms as originally defined by Carl Jung referred to assimilating one's self to the outside world and protecting the self from the outside world respectively. So, for example, what Jung called the "Extroverted Feeling" personality would be prone to assimilating one's self into one's network of social relationships.

It makes one think how important our relationships are in our sense of self.

Sounds like busy-work to give the DUmmie something pointless but time-consuming to do besides just wallow in self-pity, to me.

I don't buy this, the whole idea reeks of some self-help thing the DUmmie read. Most of these nutcases from the Island have an overvalued sense of worth, and have shown through their own posts that they have problems interacting with real people.

Just another DUmmie trying to fit into the "I have mental problems too " crowd on the Island.

I maintain my original (amateur) diagnosis:

The extremist liberal mind is defined by the need to alleviate their personal tedium. They are nothings, nobodies and never-woulds and they know it on a subconscious level.

Hence the need to belong to a group, i.e. the collectivist instinct. They have strength in numbers and misery loves to commiserate. Dissenting opinion is rejected because it threats their constructs.

Now if this group is proclaiming truth-to-power, social justice, rising above etc etc etc then they get to do more than simply alleviate their own feelings of inferiority, they get to be the Davids crusading against the Goliaths.

Of course, they can never blame themselves for their inferiority, it MUST be somebody else's fault: the rich, the GOP, the Church, Dick Cheney's personal assassination squad...the bigger and more ominous the threat the greater their own personal bravery in opposing the presumed menace.

What this thread betrays is a minor glimpse into the truth they are shielding themselves from.

Conservatives by contrast are doers and individualists by nature. They're happy because they find value in their own efforts and a social group is for--well--social interaction, not self-validation. A conservative can be the very sort Montaigne wrote of when he spoke of a man with his feet under his own table eating his own food grown on his own land. That man is happy and takes friends because he enjoys sharing his own beer more than drinking alone but he prefers other men of the same character rather than the habitually needy.

But I could be wrong.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

What the **** is that supposed to mean? Honestly, this is a problem for people? Does the fact that I describe myself as a good wife and mother mean I need therapy? And here I thought I was fairly well put together.

If the DUmmy ever completes this assignment it would be hilarious to read! No DUmmy has 16 qualities, unless you enumerate each individual obnoxious trait. Aside from their failures in interacting with others, nearly every trait of an inveterate DUmmy can be categorized as one of three "qualities": Incompetence, Laziness, Perversion. Of course, most of them will have many, many subqualities.

Their democrat leanings stem from a combination of those three qualities, which form the core of democrat politics.

Respectfully, I'd like to add narcissism to that list... DUmmies, in general, are so focused on their own misery, they hate--HATE--the happiness and success of others.
Let nothing trouble you,
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.
