Illinois Income Tax May Jump 50 Percent

Oooooh boy.  This isn't going to go well . . .

Illinois Income Tax May Jump 50 Percent

Gov. Pat Quinn Says Tax Hike Is Needed To Fight Deficit

CHICAGO (CBS) ―Gov. Pat Quinn confirmed Friday that he plans to raise taxes on some Illinois residents to combat deficits in a difficult state budget, and called for broader tax reform.

Quinn said Friday that he plans to hike taxes for families that make more than $56,000 a year.

But Quinn contends his income tax proposal would amount to a tax cut for millions of Illinoisans by increasing the personal exemption to let them shield more income from being taxed.

"It's very important that we raise taxes in a fair way for the people of Illinois in order to pay for important core priorities – whether it be safety, health, education, transportation, and so on," Quinn said at a news conference at the James R. Thompson Center Friday.

He did not say exactly how much taxes would go up, but the Chicago Tribune reported Friday that he was looking for a hike of 50 percent, from a rate of from 3 percent to 4.5 percent.

$56,000 a year, for families?  There's a lot of Illinois residents that are going to be pissed.

$56,000?????!?!?!?!?!? :bird:

I would not be surprised if Obama's "plan" to hike taxes on $250,000 ends up being closer to this number....I would go Part Time.

Illinois, what a great place not to live!  Oh, and any of you liberals who might want to jump the ditch and come over here, just stay the f*ck out, it's your duty to your Fuehrer to stay and pay!  We don't need Missouri screwed up the way you cockbites did with the Massholes and the rest of upper New England.

Maybe the Governor can get Joe "plugs" Biden to stop by and tell everyone how patriotic they will be for paying more in taxes.   :whatever:

Obama probably wouldn't have paid it anyway. Just look at his like minded cabinet.

Not if he maintains his Illinois residence.  I'm a Michigan resident, even though I live in Illinois.

I hate the state more and more every day.

Wouldn't that depend on money earned in state? That's what snow birds do. Only claim money earned while in the state.

I'm a Michigan resident that spends 5 months a year in Tennessee.

Obama is a federal employee, so for taxation purposes it would still be his state of residence.  Michigan has a clause that allows it's military residence to not pay state taxes.

Looking it up, it seems Illinois has a tax exemption for military as well.  I didn't look up the full clause though, so I'm not sure if that covers all out of state federal jobs or not.

I don't know about you but before 2012 I might  have to make a trip to Cabella's or twenty to stock up. Maybe THAT's why they're still there... fear that Obama and Pelosi will destroy the second amendment certainly boosted gun sales after the election. And the sales sure as crap won't die down as they prove every step of the way that they are INDEED enemies of the second amendment (and all others).

Perhaps they don't want to lay off all their employees?

Mebbe the cost of moving their organization would just be too much.

Il. wants to put them out of business. I read that if a state AWB was passed, they'd move.

They'd be forced to at that point.  Either move or go out of business.

Tom & Denny Reese (from Springfield Armory) both have familes and very nice homes in Geneseo. I doubt they would ever move.

Hopefully none of the gun companies have to leave Geneseo and the surronding areas. (Lived and worked in Geneseo for many years, moving last spring)

Meh. That's nothing.  You wouldn't believe the crap Deval Patrick is pulling here in MA.   Obama has set the stage for the rebirth of a million Mike Dukakis's.

Massachusetts lost its title of "Taxachusetts" when Weld became Governor.   We are making quite the come back folks.   Come visit us this Fall for the foliage before our commonwealth starts to free fall to junk bond status again aka the Duke years.

The ONLY positive thing about all this horrible mess is that the GOP will have sweeping wins in the mid-cycle elections, and my state will put a Republican back in the Governor's chair.

If we survive until then that is.

This tax increase would come on top of the $1/pack cigarette increase that just went into effect.  I'm willing to bet that the dems will get the $56K changed to a higher level and tax the evil rich bastards more to make up for it. [DU mode off]

Blago had raised taxes and fees on most industries during his term in office, so they have to go after the workers now.

Christ, scratch out Mass and put in New Hampshire, and you'd have us pegged as well.  Damn Democrats are screwing the pooch here big-time, and the state GOP is about as useful as a football bat.  At least mouth-breather Fergus Cullen quit at state chair.

This tax increase would come on top of the $1/pack cigarette increase that just went into effect.

That would most likely effect bottom dweller types...as they are mostly ones that still smoke in this day and age.  Smoking went out in the 80's.
