Is it in a toof, or in the gum?  I had some nerve pain in a tooth a few years ago... had it x-rayed and was expecting a root canal.  The dentist didn't find anything out of the ordinary and I've never had any problems with my teeth since then.

Is now a bad time to mention I rarely get colds either?

It's the gum area (well, where the "stump" is), right where a wisdom tooth used to be behind my upper right back molar.

Edited to add: I was having some TMJ issues a few days ago (jaw was popping more than usual), and right after that time, the "phantom pain" started.

You could have irritated something.  Is there still something in the gum?  I thought they removed the tooth entirely (shows you how much I know about tooth issues).  My brother has had a bad case of TMJ for years and years, and has more tooth problems than I do.

Sitting next to him and listening to him chew makes me want to punch him in face to make the noise stop.

Damn, sure is nice being a guy, and not some metrosexual at that.  10 minutes in a barber chair, #1 or 1/2 blades on the sides, just enough to lay down on top, and I'm good for another 6 weeks.

+1  :-)

they did remove the entire tooth.  I'm leaning towards the idea that I aggravated a nerve of some kind.

I was at work a couple days ago, and yawned REALLY big... and everyone near me actually HEARD the pop come from the right side of my jaw.  That hurt like hell, and I had to go to the break-room to get my jaw comfortable again.   :(  TMJ issues... ugh! All because I wanted that jaw surgery.  :banghead: :bawl:

Okay, yeah... that happens when you open your face too wide.  Nothin to do with TMJ... I've done the same thing and thought I had been struck with lockjaw.  It ****in' hurt.  :lmao:

Didn't you have a broken jaw at some point?

I had an overbite, so I had that surgery to correct it.

The jaw was intentionally broken during the surgery....   :o :(

Yeah... I've been trying to remember everything my surgeon told me regarding the orthognathic procedure that was performed, especially the risks and side-effects. :(

One dental website mentions that there can be pain originating from the bones, muscles, and nerves.   :(

Broken bones can generate pain years after the incident.  I broke a couple fingers about ten years ago and will occaisonaly get a shooting pain in that hand.  My father's wife was in a terrible car accident and suffers from the same problem.

That's something I never knew (since I've never broken anything beyond my pinky toe, which hasn't had any lingering pain).

Wow.  I'm kinda glad I sold my bank stock the other year.  It's down to $12 now.
