Hypocrisy 101 - how the world views the Jews
   
Hypocrisy 101: Yesterday, a female suicide bomber killed upwards of forty-five Muslim women pilgrims at a shrine in Iraq. More hundreds died all over Africa from starvation and brutality in Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Darfur, Somalia and more. Taliban zealots routinely murder female children for having the audacity to go to school and adult women for not dressing sufficiently modestly. I look in vain for demonstrations in any part of the world against these ongoing and horrific human rights violations.

From 2005 to 2008, Hamas regularly bombarded Israel with rockets aimed in the general direction of populated areas. Somehow, I seem to have missed the outrage and frustration the world must have shown at these criminal acts. Or, heaven forefend, is there a double standard? Does it matter who is on which end of the weapon that makes the difference?

No one seems to get excited when Muslims are holding the guns but go ballistic when it is a Jew. Jews with guns; not something the world is yet accustomed to. After all, for almost two millennia, it was open season on Jews anywhere in the world. Beginning in 1948, however, for the first time since the year 70 CE, there was and continues to be, a Jewish Army which has no qualms about defending its people. That is only as it should be.

Imagine, if you will, a breakdown in governmental authority in Mexico. Imagine further a breakaway rebel group that refuses to answer to the central authorities in Mexico City and lobs rockets into Arizona. How might the U.S. respond? Very angrily, exactly as we did in 1912 when Pancho Villa attacked Columbus, New Mexico and we sent an army into Mexico after him.

No cries for proportionality then, were they? We sent an army after a guerilla band. Now, we are told that Israel is reacting disproportionally by using airplanes and armor against guerillas and rockets. Grow up people, this is not a sporting match where one tries to match weights and create a level playing field. It is a war where one uses every tool at hand to do the job. Insisting on proportionality is to give the weaker party the choice of weapons and to define the size of the force. How more stupid could a doctrine be? If you must go to war – not a first choice – then you do so to win, not to play games for the soothing of world opinion, a notorious whore, for sale to the highest bidder.

To quote the late Golda Meir: "this war will end when they love their children more than they hate us."

Furthermore, The Mexico-U.S. analogy is deeply flawed. The U.S. has not been occupying Mexico for the last 40 years.

Israel is acting disproportionately.

Oh, and that Meir quote? It's like saying that the Palestinians aren't normal people who love their children. And that's bullshit.

Proportionate responses lead to eternal war... Is that really what you want to advocate.

15 people killed by rockets in 8 years is chickenshit compared to 461 road accident deaths a year. And 15 dead are no excuse for mass murder and ethnic cleansing.

Never mind the death from above, worry about the traffic on the way to work... Bury the head in the sand.

You want to talk about hypocrisy? Support the jews attacking hamas in order to "defend themselves" but at the same time villify the bush junta for using the very same logic to invade Iraq...

the palestinians are poor, homeless, victims of their own bad decisions, and are generally an unmanageable mob.  in other words, they are literally poster children for the liberal impulse.

Few remember that at one time, Israel and the Jews were the Great Liberal Cause.

Conservatives didn't seem to have a position; it just wasn't any issue or culture that got them all agog and excited.

Israel and the Jews however were the Great Liberal Cause, from 1945 on; as late as the Six-Day War of 1967, which Israel won but at a great cost, it was the academicians, the "artists," the "intelligentsia," the Democrats, the liberals here in America who immediately purchased, and boosted the sale of, Israeli bonds meant to pay for the war.

The "turning point" seems to be pinpointed down to December 1974; I have no idea what happened (this was AFTER the War of 1973), and it turned quickly, instantly.  I think I noticed it in the Nation magazine, which had published a whole lot of articles favorable to Israel and the Jews earlier in the year, and did an abrupt turnabout, an abrupt volte-face, in December 1974.

Ditto Walter Cronkite, apparently, the same month and the same year.

It was so startling that for years I've accused Democrats, liberals, and primitives of having a special telephone line to the Nation magazine that rings occasionally, and when one picks it up, one is told what to think.

Israel has been facilitating the transfer of significant amounts of humanitarian supplies—some of which has been stolen from civilians by Hamas terrorists for their own use—during the course of its operation in the Gaza Strip, delivering 15,000 tons of aid over the past week and a half. The humanitarian effort allowed half-a-million liters of heavy duty diesel to pass through the Nahal Oz terminal, despite terror threats on the facility, and 90,000 liters of fuel will be transferred for the first time by truck via the Kerem Shalom crossing. On Wednesday, 76 trucks filled with humanitarian aid entered Gaza, with more shipments expected to arrive Thursday. Israel also coordinated the movement of 14 ambulances to evacuate wounded civilians, enabled access for doctors and nurses to Gaza and took steps to repair power lines and resume power supplies to Gaza City. Interesting, of course the December edition would have been going final immediately on the heels of the war, or even while it was still underway, due to the necessary time overhead to publish the rag.  Israel successfully defended itself militarily at great cost in the Yom Kippur/Ramadan War, but also at an even greater cost politically to include bringing the US and USSR to an unprecedented worldwide alert and the brink of war themselves, so in Weltpolitik it was not a victory for them and perhaps fear of provoking that worldwide conflict soured their stock with the Libs.

Israeli failure to stop at successive agreed cease-fire lines after the counterattack across the canal, and then dissemble about it diplomatically, lead to the Soviets alerting their airborne forces for immediate deployment to enforce the lines, and the US had nothing remotely like the amount of rapidly-deployable forces it would have taken to counter STAVKA's airborne reserves (about 8 regular divisions at the time), putting us right into either going nuclear, shutting up, or reining in the Israelis hard.   

It's unfortunate but true that despite what would seem to be their own best interests, the American Jewish vote is very heavily a Democrat and Liberal constituency.  I remember trying to point this out on either TOS or a gun board at one time a couple of years ago to some dolt who just couldn't believe it, and insisted I was dead wrong.
