Is owning a home a right or a privilege?

No doubt many of you already know where I'm going with this. It's a serious question.

What other "privileges" are granted to us by the government? Which ones should force us to surrender our constitutional right in order to participate?

.

In honor of Franks temporary absence as I believe he is expecting this primitive to surrender the second home he owns for the greater good.

4. I think shelter is a right. In a country as wealthy
as the US, there should be no one sleeping in the streets.

7. Having a home be it rental or mortgage is a right.

You don't own a home until it's paid for. Until that happens, the bank owns it.

Looks like some on the island think Pedro Picasso needs to give up the second home he owns too.

Then there is just stupid. :mental:

Linky?
"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

I believe they think the part in the Constitution where it says "to promote the general welfare" means every citizen gets the God given right to a two story tudor with an inground swimming pool.  :whatever:

With every right there is a corresponding responsibility. If every single person has a "right" to a home, then who should have the "responsibility" of purchasing it for them?
Never demand that which you are incapable of taking by force, DUmmie.

"free" housing
"free" healthcare
"free" education
"free" food
...all "rights" touted by liberals who define "free" as "someone else pays".   :whatever:

"Is owning a home a right or a privilege?"...It is niether a right nor a privilege, it is a "result". It is the result of personal industry and wise money management.......both qualities sadly lacking in DUmmies.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

One has a "right" to purchase a house and then live in or rent that house as they deem fit. If they can arrange a method to pay for it.

They don't have the right to funding, especially through coercion of a lender or direct title by "redistribution" for that house (or anything else) which I think is what the DUmmy is getting at.

Unfortunately, only bright light of exposure will ensure that.  The train of thought and consciousness in extremis that creates the DU enabled a socialist to get elected not two months ago.  IOW, that kind of stupid got us where we are today, and sadly it'll be a lot worse before it gets better.

DU stupid is like evil.  It really can never be truly defeated, only contained.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Oh my.

I just woke up, but have to be at a college in a faraway town this morning (Friday morning), and will be back here circa early or mid afternoon.

Anyway, I had a great time, one of those eye-opening times, New Year's Eve among the derelict homeless.  The reason was explained in the "taking off" thread in the Lounge here, no need to repeat it.

It wasn't as exciting as--and somewhat colder than--last New Year's Eve among the Native American poor in North Dakota, but it was illuminating.

I'll write about it later today, but I had to say this:

As I was getting up to leave, and shaking the hand of my host, slipping a $10 bill into the palm of his hand--I had Haig & Haiged and Grand Marniered (sp) my host, and so he was rather, uh, effervescent--he hollered, "Bye, buddy, and good luck!  I hope Boma [0bama] gets that second house for you, from that selfish rich guy!"

I kid you not.

Why can't Pedro ask a question with some relevance, like...

Quote from:
Atman

Should a professed liberal own a second home, if they choose to not invite homeless people, or those who otherwise do not own their own home, to use it in their absence, is that (1) an act of hatred towards the homeless, (2) an act of unconcern towards their well-being, or (3) both?

Once again TexasToast is falling prey to the Liberal brainwashing that says "anything we have or want to have is given to us by the Federal Government."

Ok lurking DUmmies follow along and learn something.

Owning your own home IS a privilege.  But not in the way that TT is trying to say.  Work hard, save money...maybe make some wise investments...have a good credit rating and you can have a house that has your name on the deed.

The "privilege" comes from the pride and satisfaction of doing what it takes to get to the point where you can go to the realtor...or to the bank and say...."I'd like to buy a house".

DUmmies you don't understand this or have the proper perspective because you are expecting the Government to wipe your ass when you're a baby and your nose when you're old...and take care of everything in between.

That's not a "privilege" granted by the government...that's government slavery.

Maybe if you idiots got out of your parents basement...you'd have a better perspective on all of this.

It's a privilege  for those who have worked hard, probably sacrificed many "luxuries" and fun trips and nights on the town....that privilege is attained by the ability to make mortgage payments for the next 20-30 years.

It's only a privilege given to those who meet the qualifications required to meet the ability.

However...anyone has the right to seek the ability to obtain the privilege.

I look at it like the having the right to the pursuit of happiness. You have a right to own a home, but you don't have a right TO a home. That is, no one can prevent you from owning a home if you have the money to pay for it, but you damn sure don't have the right to have someone else pick up the damn tab on it.

DUmmies, as usual, just have no concept of freedom.
