Happy Sunday Cave Folk!
« on: December 14, 2008, 11:14:39 AM »
Mornin!

I just got my brother and his kids on the road for Minniesoda, Yah Dere Hey, and cleaned up after the farm house breakfast for 7 I had to cook this morning.

We have more nasty weather headed at us in the form of ice and gunk. Poo.

It's going to be an easy day of rest around here.  Everyone is tired out from the long drive yesterday and the weekend  in general.  We stayed up late and watched The Matrix with the older kids last night. :)

I have some laundry and housecleaning to do, but that is all.  Typical Sunday.  I may go to the library later.

Posting this from work.  Much of the ice actually fell off the trees on Friday, but not before the damage was done.  I've been without power since Thursday night.  Generator is holding up for now, and as long as I keep it in gas it's all good.

Cold showers, OTOH, SUCK.  It'll be nice when a laundromat opens up, too.

Just woke up.  NyQuil worked a little too well.  :o   Not long after I got back from Walgreens, it REALLY began to kick in, and I had to log off the computer and get to bed.

Today, I'm cleaning out the car and going to pick up some lunch/dinner from Fresh Market.  :cheersmate:

Ah man I knew the NE got hit hard but I wasn't keeping track of how bad it was.

Any idea when they will have you back up?  And are you at least able to run the furnace off of the gennie?

Nice part about winter power outages is that freezer and fridge issues aren't as bad. :)

Well, I was out much later than I should have been last night.  I didn't get home until 5am.  Then I messed up setting my alarm, but thankfully I woke up at 11am and had time to get dressed and be at work at noon.

I bought my Christmas cards last night, and I brought them with me to work.  I have a little less than 4 hours until I'm off work and that's plenty of time to start signing away.  The hard part is deciding who gets what kind of card.  I have a religious, two that are simple Christmas greetings and one that's about celebrating the holiday with alcohol.  I'm addicted to Hallmark.  Thankfully it's a little out of the way.

Yes, yes they do.  Thankfully you have a generator!

No idea when I'll be back up.  The houses at the bottom of my road were up last night as I was coming home, but sadly, I wasn't.  All those brightly lit X-Mas trees in the window, only to have the dark resume about 1/2 a mile from the house--call me cynical, but that kinda smacked me like a big, "**** You" right in the face.  Oh well.

Governor Lynch, useless bag of turds he be, told us not to expect our power back soon.  Gee, thanks.  PSNH guys are telling me that some of the infrastructure has to be completely rebuilt.  Parts of some towns might not see power back for TWO weeks.  Washington, NH is still completely in the dark because nobody can get through the roads.  As the ice melts, the trees snap back into position which has the possibility of taking out MORE power lines.

My generator is a 6000-watt job that takes care of the well pump, furnace, microwave, refrigerator, and a few lights.  So no hot water, and no tee-vee, computer, laundry, or stove.  But even so, I've gone from about 18-20 gallons on Thursday to about 5-7 gallons today.  Time to find some gas on the way home.  Freezer and refrigerator stuff still goes bad because even if the house is 50 degrees, the fridge wants to head there too.

Here's a link to some pics folks have sent in:

Here is a story about Rosita and Pedro (it's below the picture)

It's a romantic full moon, when Pedro said, "Hey, mamacita, let's do Weeweechu."

"Oh no, not now, let's look at the moon!" said Rosita.

"Oh, c'mon baby, let's you and I do Weeweechu. I love you and it's the perfect time," Pedro begged.

"But I wanna just hold your hand and watch the moon." replied Rosita.

"Please, corazoncito, just once, do Weeweechu with me."

Rosita looked at Pedro and said, "OK, one time, we'll do Weeweechu."

Pedro grabbed his guitar and they both sang.....

"Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year."

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Alright, well, I get to put off cleaning the car... its raining.  Front seat of the car is clean (needs a good vacuuming though, thanks to all the packing peanuts that ended up there.  I would pick up packages delivered to my UPS mailing address, and open the boxes while sitting in the car... big mistake.  :whatever:

As for lunch, I changed my mind at least 3 different times.  :lmao: Instead of Fresh Market, I went with a hot Quizno's sub.   :innocent:

After descending into a deep freeze Saturday night into Sunday morning, it was supposed to soar up to the 40s here in Nebraska today (and then to descend back into a deep freeze tonight, rarely rising above circa 10 degrees, day or night, the next few days).

That never happened; temperatures stayed in the single digits all day long, hovering on both sides of the +/- scale.

I can't begin to tell you all how my son's smile makes me feel inside. It has been a long two years.  :thatsright:

I saw those on the menu, and they looked tasty.  I'll try them on my next trip. :)

I spoiled myself a bit today, and got the most expensive sub on the menu. :uhsure:  A large prime rib cheesesteak on wheat bread.  I ate half of it, and the other half is in the fridge for later.  I also got some salt & vinegar chips and a root beer to compliment it.  Whoever invented that flavor of potato chips should be ashamed.  I'm an addict now. :(
