Happy Tuesday
« on: December 09, 2008, 06:56:29 AM »
Happy December 9, everybody.

I'm sure it's an important date in history, but I have no idea why.

It's 15 degrees and snowing in the Sandhills of Nebraska this dark morning; with the wind, it's -4 degrees.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Hi stranger and a (belated?) welcome back from your CC hiatus.

Cincy might hit 57 today with rain storms and then head back down to the more normal 30's tomorrow. Maybe the last chance this year to open up all the windows (rain be darned) and let some fresh air flow around the place.

13 this morning, but at least the wind is calm.  It will be warming up significantly later today and into tomorrow as the rain moves in tonight.

Tornadoes or straight line winds blew through town last night. Going to go in and see what kind of damage was done. Fortunately, the really bad part of the storms were South of where we live.

Frank....good to see you up and about! I heard from my son last night that your weather was getting nasty. He was happy to hear it was at least cold here....didn't want to tell him how much it was going to warm up... :lmao:

Yeah, the entire motor vehicle was coated with about half an inch of ice--ice, not snow--this morning.

As you know, madam, nowhere better than in Nebraska, to see the far horizons; to get a glimpse of the weather a couple of hundred miles way.  From where I'm at, I can see the weather in three states (here, South Dakota, and Iowa).

At the moment, circa 10:30 a.m. central time, the skies above here are clear, sort of a pale light blue.  But then when one looks towards the southwest, say about 200 miles, it looks like Grand Island's having something at the moment.  At least it looks very thick and grey.

It's about 10 degrees right now, with the wind -4 degrees.  Sun's out.

I know you will think I'm crazy.....but I do miss those Nebraska snow storms.

Here when it snows, widespread panic, the world stops, severe power outages from the heavy snow on tree limbs bringing down the trees over the lines....you don't get "plowed out'....you're stuck in the house for days, and hoping that the power stays on. Not fun. :(

Snowstorms in Nebraska, blizzards in Nebraska, outside of Omaha and Lincoln, are great.

They're not so great in Omaha because Omaha is 90% steep hills, sitting there on the banks of the Missouri River, the most important river in America, and one can't do a whole lot about the hazards presented by snow on hills.

They're not so great in Lincoln because Lincoln although utterly flat, flat as a pancake with streets as wide as the Panama Canal, is somewhat populated with impatient intolerant angry Democrats, liberals, and primitives who drive as if no one else is on those streets.  It's the "it's mine mine mine" mentality of such people.

But outside Omaha and Lincoln, it's great to stand and gaze in wonder and awe at the forces of nature, God reminding us of man's utter insignificance in regards to geography, terrain, climate, and weather.

However generally it's not a good idea to stand and gaze outside too long.

About 40 here today, with rain supposed to be coming in later.

As soon as I am "approved" by the school board, I will be officially employed again.  Filled out all the paperwork junk today.  Looking to work a couple days a week as a sub.

Tonight is a full run-through of Nutcracker, tomorrow is dress rehearsal, then Thurs and Fri there are 2 shows per day, during the day, for schools.   Then Sat night and Sun afternoon are the "real" shows.   Who knows what time I'll end up getting home tonight!

Had lunch with Mr Flame today after my "orientation/finger printing" at the school district offices, and now I'm just hanging out, relaxing for the afternoon.  Heck, might even go take a nap!

I thought of you this morning when they said that Dennison had damaged from the storms last night.  Did you get any damage?  I hope not.

I had accounting this morning.  I *think* I understand what she was talking about.  I brought my school stuff in with me at work, so hopefully after I get caught up on today's work I can look that stuff over.  The professor is tough, but she's nice.  She let out early and stayed around for the 30 minutes to answer questions.

27 degrees with 10-12 degrees of windchill making it feel like it's a LOT colder.

6-8 inches of snow on the ground with 3-5 coming down today. Snow day for the kiddies and the missus. One of the benifits of having an Evvvvvil Earth destroying SUV with 4wd is that I am going to plow through the driveway here in a bit with it and we are going out to a nearby eatery to get some kick ass lunch.

No damage at the house where I live. Of course, we're in the Red River Valley, North of the town. However, Denison did get hit pretty hard. Here's  a news clip(s) of the storm damage.

That's exactly what I meant...since I don't have a fire place.  Hey, I can pop in that old video of a fire to watch.
