Ole Miss vs. Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl.

Don't get me wrong, I think Ole Miss has had a helluva year considering how we performed under Orgeron the previous 3, but this game will be tough. Hell, we did knock off the Gators though.  :evillaugh:

Reardon, looks like they're projecting Ohio State against Georgia in the Capitol One bowl.

It would be nice if Utah had lost and givin my guys a shot at the Fiesta Bowl but I think the Capitol One bowl would be more winnable. (could have seen Texas in AZ)

No. Easier to beat than Texas this year? You Bettcha.

And that 0-9 record is true but way overblown. A lot of those old bowl games were one loss SEC teams vs 3 or, I think, even 4 loss Ohio State teams. Back when OSU had to "settle" for playing a team from the lowly SEC in an off year. It was not like the recent years where the SEC has been the best conf. in the country (bar none).

But yah, I'd rather have Geaorgia than Texas. Especially with a healthy Beanie and a slowly but surely improving true freshman QB. (and true freshman C too)

Lowly SEC? Hell, we've dominated this entire decade, and many of the years in the last. Hell, I could go back further to the 'Bama days.

I agree 100%. But 5 of those 9 losses were in the John Cooper years of Buckeye football. The guy that could not beat Michigan. (Michigan btw, I think is 5-2 vs the SEC) And one of the losses came from Woody Hayes.

Tressel has owns three losses, all in the time of SEC greatness. One in his first year as coach (OSU finished 7-5) and the last two championship games, one of which (vs LSU) we never would have been in had not a half a dozen BCS teams ahead of us lost. Otherwise sweatervest is 4-3 in Bowl games including a national championship. (hey it's not like we are Oklahoma! lol)

Props to the SEC. Big ones. But I still like our chances v Georgia over Texas this year. And that's only a prediction.

It's all good. I get it. There are plenty of great teams in the current SEC system that have great histories as longtime football powers. Jeeze you SEC folks are sensitive bastards.  :lmao:

I'm not big on change and conferences with championships are not exactly an historic tradition harking back to the days of football yor. And they change size and membership too much. (all of them) What can one do? We are victims of circumstance. I was born in the Great Northwest and follow thier pro teams. Raised in the Midwest and all I get on TV all my grown up life is the Big 10, the Big East and ****ing Notre Dame. lol

You say we're sensitive, and that could be true, but you guys and UM have a weirdass rivalry. I f'n HATE LSU, with a passion. I can't STAND MSU. ....but I pull for ALL SEC teams in post conference. I work with a Michigan fan. He's a f'n Obama supporting friggin' moron and he wants OSU to lose EVERY game, including bowl games that help your conference.

I called you a "sensitive bastard" (H5) because you keep saying that I am saying things I have not. I have nothing but respect for the SEC. How many times must one give due reverence? The fact that I'd rather face Georgia than Texas was not a slam on the SEC. The fact that the recent decade of greatness of all of the SEC is not a slam on individual schools there in who have a terrific history.

I too, pull for the Big 10 once bowl season starts (minus Michigan, your example of an Obama voting moron was spot on) What is left to say? In a few weeks it's going to get really exciting. (especially if OSU beats Oklahoma)

I do view OSU-UM as one of the greatest rivalries in the country. How can you not? I just hope Rodriguez can rebuild the team. I think we won't really see until he gets his own recruits in. He's a good coach, but conferences are different. Hell, our last coach, Ed Orgeron, was the right hand man to Pete Carroll at USC. Before that he was on Miami's roster as a coach when they won the NC. He sucked ASS in the SEC. ****, we were 3-21 in SEC play with him. We're already 4-3 with Nutt. .....but Nutt knows the SEC. He beat last years NC, LSU, when he was the coach of Arkansas. The "Right Reverend" is marching on.

As for you guys, you need to add another team and start having a championship. Notre Damn isn't going to do it. I would bet WVU would leave the Big East in a heartbeat.

It's likely enevitable that the Big 10 goes that route. It will be a sad day when OSU and UM don't meet in the final game every year but that's just not modern college ball.

ND would actually be good for the Big 10 as far as fans, money and basketball go but it will be some time before they are respectable again. As far as West Virginia I'd be glad to have them.

I'm pretty sure if they brought a team in to complete 12, 2 of the three powerhouses, being OSU and UM, would dictate many things. One being that they're NOT in the same division. Penn State, UM, and OSU are your most storied teams. They'll have a LOT of pull. You could easily see UM and OSU in the last game of the "regular" season. Think about the Georgia-Auburn rivalry. SEC-W vs SEC-E.

No doubt they would meet a lot and/or more often than not it would mean something. But the number of times each has had a down year and still played spoiler to the other is freaking crazy. (national championship implications and all)

I'll just have to get used to it like the other folks have. I'm just not a huge fan of playoffs in college football yet. One of the great traditions of the game is arguing about it. It's in a way it's own funny and traditional institutuion. sigh

I am ALL for a playoff. Some conference champions, and I won't name names.....  :uhsure: have an added advantage over the Big-12, Big-East, ACC, and SEC champion.  :-)

Besides, D-1AA, D-II, and D-III have'em. No one can tell me it's unworkable. Not with all of the f'n bowls we have now that could easily fill the slot.

Houston Nutt had it right though, he told the Rebs, the more you win, the warmer the bowls get.  :-)

Don't know about that bowl in Toronto, but I'd HATE that bowl in Boise. F'n A man, that's gotta be a coldass place during bowl season.

Don't know if I'm for an 8-team. I'd say conference champs(ACC, BE, SEC, Big12, PAC-10, Big-10) and maybe 6 at large. Those At Large should include the best in the other conferences as WELL as at large teams in the big conferences.

Unless my math is drunk, that's two teams with bye's and at most 4 extra games for the winning team?

Could you still have a non-conf. game early like OSU has had with Texas/USC and Miami and Tenn down the road?

Don't know about that bowl in Toronto, but I'd HATE that bowl in Boise. F'n A man, that's gotta be a coldass place during bowl season.

we played in that bowl in 1998.  it was brutal.  and we lost.

I meant a 12 team bracket would have the top 4 teams get a bye in the first round of the playoffs. For a team outside the top 4 to win the championship they would have to win 4 games. Plus you still need a BCS-like system to rank the teams (1 through 12) and figure out who plays who.
 
Note, the numbers on the bracket at the link to not correspond with team ranking. (9-12 would represent the top 4 teams in the country)
