vacation t-shirt causes a flap at polls

Oh my.

Quote
Ginger Hurley could not have picked Sarah Palin out of a sea of hockey moms when she vacationed in Alaska this June.

For 10 days, Hurley fished and kayaked. She took a "flightseeing" excursion over Mount McKinley and a harbor cruise around the glaciers. She even picked up a few T-shirts. She did not visit the governor's mansion.

But by October, the association between the state and its governor, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, was so strong it nearly kept Hurley out of the voting booth.

The 40-year-old Houston Realtor was wearing one of her souvenir T-shirts when she went to cast her ballot at a Cypress polling place Oct. 26. A poll worker told her she would have to change the shirt if she wanted to vote.

Hurley, who votes in every election, is familiar with poll site etiquette. She knows not to wear campaign paraphernalia. She's never run into trouble before.

What, she asked, was wrong with her light blue cotton T-shirt, emblazoned with a moose head, fishing poles, and the words "Seward, Alaska"?

The word "Alaska," a poll worker answered.....

There's much more, including a story about an Obamaite voting in her brassiere.

Now that makes me wish I had something with a Confederate Flag on it.

Shame, shame, I'm such a piss-poor Southerner.

I'll bet you wouldn't be kicked out for wearing a vacation shirt from Delaware!

Of course .... who in their right mind would go to Delaware for a vacation?!   :mental:

It seems as if the Texas poll workers are out of hand. I've read of instances where one can't even wear Cowboys paraphernalia to go vote. I sure wish that someone would file suit against these folks for civil rights violations. I can understand it if the garb had one of the people running for office's logo, campaign stuff on it, but seriously, it's out of hand.

Agreed, not allowing Cowboys or something that just says Alaska on it it seriously retarded.

According to the law you're just not allowed to wear anything that says the candidates name (or party affiliation) on it, beyond that is people overstepping the bounds.

Hey!

*I* go to Delaware for vacation! The beaches there are great!

Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.

Hey!

I've seen Delaware.  You can't convince me they have beaches.  You might convince me they have BEACH but not beach(es).

Itty bitty states trying to pretend like they are something.  BAH.
