The always-hopeful, always-optimistic, primitives.

how will Democratic Underground be different if we actually win this thing?
To me, anyway, Democratic Underground has always been largely about venting and yelling and screaming about the outrageous crimes and abuses of the Bush administration.
If we actually see Senator Obama elected and sworn in as president, along with fortified majorities in the House and Senate, how will this web community be changed?
I recall that this website was founded in response to an illegitimately seated administration. Will DU become a different kind of place if we witness the seating of a New American President that actually has the best interests of our citizens at heart?
I guess this is almost more of a philosophical question than anything else. It's just something I was thinking about.

3. There will always be something
There is always something to complain about, and I dont let people get off that easily just because they have a (D) by their name.

5. fewer postings... less cynicism
Now, saying "less cynicism" is as if one took a pint of water out of the Atlantic Ocean and said, "Hey, the Atlantic Ocean's smaller."

6. We will become part of the conscience of the Democratic Party.
We don't just criticize Republicans because they're Republicans. We criticize them because they're *wrong*.
On occasion, Democrats can be wrong too. But we will be here to call them on it, and provide some accountability.
I also think we'll move more toward issue-based advocacy and debate, rather than focusing so much on parties. This is a good thing, I think. There are a lot of important issues that get buried because we have "bigger fish to fry" with trying to win elections. Once we win, I fully expect that DU will turn its attention to issues--like gay marriage--that are often neglected for the sake of electability.
The subway cat and Pedro Picasso the "conscience" of the Democrat party?
Yeah, sure.

9. There will still be Republicans to bash and of course I'm sure Obama will get his share.
It will start with his cabinet picks. They won't be suitable to many I predict.
Later, we aren't out of Iraq fast enough. Oh, and of course Congress will get it's share too.
Hopefully the rule about calling for the defeat of Democrats will still be in place.

10. We will be busy corralling our Democratic leaders, keeping them honest and doing the right thing.
Remember Obama voted for FISA and the Wall Street bailout bill. We will have to remind him who volunteered and fought for him. We will have to remind them ALL that We the People are in charge.
Hmmmm.
"We the People" includes decent and civilized people too, not just the primitives.
We'll see how that goes, and one suspects it won't go the way the primitives want it to go.

11. We won't be complaining about why the President isn't being impeached, we will want to know why the ex-President isn't in jail.

13. I guess one could look to battered spouses and see how many of them have managed to put their lives back together, once they learned to become assertive and positive again.
Aw, gee, the poor primitives, battered and bloodied the past eight years.

16. There will be plenty of arguing about whether Obama is betraying the Dems who voted for him by moving closer to the middle; and between those who want immediate gratification of every progressive dream (particularly if we have a filibuster-proof majority) and those who already have their attention focused on his getting reelected in 2012.
I don't think it's going to turn out the way the primitives want it to, but it's okay to allow even primitives to dream.
