how will Democratic Underground be different if we actually win this thing?

To me, anyway, Democratic Underground has always been largely about venting and yelling and screaming about the outrageous crimes and abuses of the Bush administration.

If we actually see Senator Obama elected and sworn in as president, along with fortified majorities in the House and Senate, how will this web community be changed?

I recall that this website was founded in response to an illegitimately seated administration. Will DU become a different kind of place if we witness the seating of a New American President that actually has the best interests of our citizens at heart?

I guess this is almost more of a philosophical question than anything else. It's just something I was thinking about.

We don't just criticize Republicans because they're Republicans. We criticize them because they're *wrong*.

On occasion, Democrats can be wrong too. But we will be here to call them on it, and provide some accountability.

I also think we'll move more toward issue-based advocacy and debate, rather than focusing so much on parties. This is a good thing, I think. There are a lot of important issues that get buried because we have "bigger fish to fry" with trying to win elections. Once we win, I fully expect that DU will turn its attention to issues--like gay marriage--that are often neglected for the sake of electability.

9. There will still be Republicans to bash and of course I'm sure Obama will get his share.

It will start with his cabinet picks. They won't be suitable to many I predict.
Later, we aren't out of Iraq fast enough. Oh, and of course Congress will get it's share too.

Hopefully the rule about calling for the defeat of Democrats will still be in place.

Remember Obama voted for FISA and the Wall Street bailout bill. We will have to remind him who volunteered and fought for him. We will have to remind them ALL that We the People are in charge.

We'll see how that goes, and one suspects it won't go the way the primitives want it to go.

There will be plenty of arguing about whether Obama is betraying the Dems who voted for him by moving closer to the middle; and between those who want immediate gratification of every progressive dream (particularly if we have a filibuster-proof majority) and those who already have their attention focused on his getting reelected in 2012.

I don't think it's going to turn out the way the primitives want it to, but it's okay to allow even primitives to dream.

They will spend a while as they did in 1992 claiming that it is a complete repudiation of anything conservative.
Obama will lurch to the left to appease those he owes some too and will immediately find that the country isn`t happy with the saviour after the glow has been removed.
This will lead to the primitives living in even greater rage,hysteria and paranoia.

In short not much will change for the primitives,losers with no ambition in life really have no place to go.

And it happened in November 1993, the off-year elections, not later in November 1994.

It was like, really quick.

My favorite story of the inauguration of the Impeached One in January 1993 is when Bags Streisand and Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania) accidentally met each other in an elevator going to one festivity or another.

Upon being told the senator was a Republican, Ol' Bags looked at him with puzzlement, and said, "I didn't know there were any Republicans left any more."

The senator pointed out there were, and ignored Ol' Bags the rest of the evening.

If the Obamessiah Ascends, they will be complaining in a year about him being a corporate sell-out.

On edit:  When his economic non-plans crash into a wall between a year to 18 months in from January 2009, even without the precipitation of a Russian- or Islamist-provoked foreign policy failure, Obama's election will destroy the Democratic Party as a political force for a generation, in a reprise of Carter.

As I have been saying--The Republicans will retake the House and Senate in 2010, as well as a majority of both governorships and state legislatures.  Problem is, the Republicans won't have the votes necessary to override the Obamessiah's vetoes, and they have to defend 24 of the 33 Senate seats up for re-election in 2012, so whoever is the Republican nominee in 2012, they will have a fillibuster-proof majority in the Senate to play with in 2013.  And since the Dems will have to defend more seats than the Republicans in 2014, they could lose more then.
