DUmmy Slap Fight
« on: August 16, 2024, 04:27:07 AM »
Some of my favorite DU threads are where they get to ankle biting at each other for completely ridiculous things.  Old-timers will remember their board wars that went on for weeks over using words like "bitch" or terms like "pearl clutching".  In some cases, they got so heated that posters got banned.  So, we start out with a relatively insignificant OP:

Quote
DFab420 (2,933 posts)

Katy Tur opens her hour previewing the Tim Walz Union rally by saying "he still has questions about is military service"
Unbelievable.

She's correct.  His retirement from the National Guard is going to remain a topic of discussion.  More and more soldiers who served with him are coming out of the woodwork criticizing how he executed his separation.  But, as is so typical of the DUmmies, the solution to negative news about Dems is to shoot the messenger.

Somebody needs to school this “lady”.

3. Horrible

She is so biased for cheato that she interrupts anyone who is calling him out now (yesterday it was Micheal Steele).

Quote
NoMoreRepugs (10,029 posts)
5. KatyTurd needs to relocate to Fox.

And on and on they go in that vein.  Calling for her to be fired and calling her juvenile names.  But then somebody asks a rather obvious question:

Quote
Kaleva (37,249 posts)
7. I wonder why people here watch her.

Nothing more productive to do?

Quote
DFab420 (2,933 posts)
8. Yee I'm stuck at home recovering from medical stuff and pretty much laid out for the next month or so.

Was the "medical stuff" the removal of your hands so you couldn't operate a remote to change the channel?  And then the slap fight starts:

Quote
hlthe2b (104,248 posts)
11. She had been on vacation, so it is likely many (like myself) flipped channels

without realizing she was back. I answer a very long string of work emails this time in the afternoon. So, if working from home, that is my "white noise." Is that okay? (No one here should have to justify their viewing or listening habits to you, Kaleva. That is just insulting).

Again, changing the channel isn't an option as you slave over your email backlog?

Quote
senseandsensibility (18,937 posts)
16. I have been tempted to answer this poster in the same vein

Like you, I have my reasons for watching/not watching. But as you say, it's not their business (call out to Walz there) so I don't. I try to point out sarcastically that their advice is not needed or asked for. Anyway, you don't owe an explanation to anyone on this board for how you spend your time and most of us know that.

If you post something on a public message board, you've made it other people's business.  That's kind of how communication works.  But, more importantly, lines are being drawn and sides are being taken in this terribly important conflict.

Kaleva (37,249 posts)
47. If a person posts something here, they should expect responses

And not all of them will be positive. Sometimes one can get serious blowback

This is a discussion board and not an echo chamber.

As Skinner has said in the past, it helps to have a thick skin

There are many things wrong in that post, but they are correct that you shouldn't post something in public and not expect that someone might actually read it and respond to it.

Thanks.

53. "Mansplaining"

Some feel totally self-entitled to make demands, explain, and critique the rest of us--or so they believe. Many used to come to the feminist forums to do so (that poster, included).

Mansplaining?  Is that the fall-back insult for any man who might actually have an opinion?

Quote
senseandsensibility (18,937 posts)
54. Yup

This poster even told someone above that they guessed they had a good reason for watching what they were watching. Gee thanks for the approval that no one was asking for. As Walz says, no one is asking for this. It's just weird.

Who the hell are YOU to tell other DUers what to watch, what to listen to, how to feel about it, and whether or not they CAN complain? Good gawd, Kaleva. In the words of Tim Walz: "MIND YOUR OWN (DAMNED) BUSINESS!"

Remember the OP was started to trash people who watched, or agreed, with Katy Tur.

As long as I stay within the rules .

A whole lot of attempts at censorship going on. People don't like what is said on cable news by certain pundits and some members here want other members to stay quiet or only post what they approve of.

People don't need to watch cable news if what is said upsets them. People are free to not read what I post or they can also place me on ignore. I don't really care.

You are allowing me to control your emotions even though that is not my intent when it should be you in control.

There are boundaries. Constantly following posters to harass them with the same refrain in every damned thread falls way outside those boundaries.

Hon, just take your little mansplaining exercise and run along now. I wouldn't want your pride to be hurt by my telling you to "MIND YOUR OWN DAMNED BUSINESS" but apparently they have.

More mansplaining.:rofl:

Alert on my posts that you truly think are out of bounds. You have the right to do so.

They've moved onto the "Am not!" "Am too!" phase of their deep philosophical discussion.  And they continue along fighting with each other.  Somebody throws out the "If you don't like my posts hit the alert button" card which is the DU debate equivalent of "Cut it out or I'm gonna tell Mom".  They really are children.  They think juvenile insults are hilarious, that a parent-figure (i.e. the Government) should take care of them and they often act up in public.  But, what I find most humorous, is that most of them are well into their 50's and 60's (with a lot of them in their 70's and 80's) and they act so damn immature.  It's like they never progressed past Elementary School.

In their warped world, lefty should only get softball questions and subsequently worshipped for their answer, and righty should get gassed and shoved into an oven. They will attack anyone who places them in an uncomfortable position or who places their viewpoints and/or actions in a poor light. Calling them immature is the most polite description one can give them.

No, DU is an echo chamber except for vital issues like whether pineapple on pizza is delicious or a culinary abomination. I could get my overly substantial tail banned from DU with one honest post about current political news. Or even for posting, Day ## since Kamala Harris' last press conference.

Weird. I was stuck in a hospital for 2 weeks back in 2021, and I used the time to finish reading a book about Chinese history and read books about the Pearl Harbor attack and about the Battle of the Coral Sea.

Speaking of catfights:

CNN Panel Goes Stark Raving Insane on Nancy Mace Over Kamala's Name (Watch)

Has anyone checked in with CNN's Keith Boykin and Michael Eric Dyson to see if they are taking their medication?

If they are, we may need to contact their psychiatrists and request they each be prescribed an extra helping of Thorazine per day.

Last night, Republican Representative Nancy Mace joined a CNN panel ostensibly to talk about ... well, to be perfectly honest, we're not sure what the panel was supposed to be talking about. All we heard was a bunch of screeching from Dyson and Boykin about the pronunciation of 'Kamala.' Watch:

~~~ VIDEO at the below link ~~~
OH, NO! Mace uses the pronunciation 'Ka-MA-la' and not 'KA-ma-la.'
This is clearly the worst crime against a black (well, sort of) person since Emmett Till. Or at least you might believe that if you observed the reactions of Dyson and Boykin.
We particularly enjoyed how Dyson, like a five-year-old, kept shouting at Mace, 'Pronounce her name right. Pronounce her name right. Pronounce her name right.'
This is probably a good time to remind everyone that the media has gotten a great big giggle by calling the Republican vice presidential nominee 'J.V. Vance.'
But clearly, Vance's name is not a religious relic to the left like Harris's name is.
Even Abby Phillip, CNN's decidedly far-left host, looked a little embarrassed at the tantrum her two male guests were throwing.
We've seen toddlers show more restraint and maturity.
Of course, Dyson and Boykin's manufactured outrage ignores one salient fact: Harris herself has pronounced her name differently over the years (probably the most innocent of her many chameleon-like aspects).
Even Harris's former boss (who is now badly pretending that he doesn't hate the woman who kicked him to the curb) has mispronounced her name often.
