Some of my favorite DU threads are where they get to ankle biting at each other for completely ridiculous things. Old-timers will remember their board wars that went on for weeks over using words like "bitch" or terms like "pearl clutching". In some cases, they got so heated that posters got banned. So, we start out with a relatively insignificant OP:

Katy Tur opens her hour previewing the Tim Walz Union rally by saying "he still has questions about is military service"
Unbelievable.
She's correct. His retirement from the National Guard is going to remain a topic of discussion. More and more soldiers who served with him are coming out of the woodwork criticizing how he executed his separation. But, as is so typical of the DUmmies, the solution to negative news about Dems is to shoot the messenger.

1. She's out of her pea-size mind
Somebody needs to school this “lady”.
senseandsensibility (18,937 posts)
3. Horrible
She is so biased for cheato that she interrupts anyone who is calling him out now (yesterday it was Micheal Steele).
NoMoreRepugs (10,029 posts)
5. KatyTurd needs to relocate to Fox.
And on and on they go in that vein. Calling for her to be fired and calling her juvenile names. But then somebody asks a rather obvious question:

7. I wonder why people here watch her.
Nothing more productive to do?

8. Yee I'm stuck at home recovering from medical stuff and pretty much laid out for the next month or so.
Was the "medical stuff" the removal of your hands so you couldn't operate a remote to change the channel? And then the slap fight starts:

11. She had been on vacation, so it is likely many (like myself) flipped channels
without realizing she was back. I answer a very long string of work emails this time in the afternoon. So, if working from home, that is my "white noise." Is that okay? (No one here should have to justify their viewing or listening habits to you, Kaleva. That is just insulting).
Again, changing the channel isn't an option as you slave over your email backlog?

16. I have been tempted to answer this poster in the same vein
Like you, I have my reasons for watching/not watching. But as you say, it's not their business (call out to Walz there) so I don't. I try to point out sarcastically that their advice is not needed or asked for. Anyway, you don't owe an explanation to anyone on this board for how you spend your time and most of us know that.
If you post something on a public message board, you've made it other people's business. That's kind of how communication works. But, more importantly, lines are being drawn and sides are being taken in this terribly important conflict.

47. If a person posts something here, they should expect responses
And not all of them will be positive. Sometimes one can get serious blowback
This is a discussion board and not an echo chamber.
As Skinner has said in the past, it helps to have a thick skin
There are many things wrong in that post, but they are correct that you shouldn't post something in public and not expect that someone might actually read it and respond to it.

48. More advice.
Thanks.

53. "Mansplaining"
Some feel totally self-entitled to make demands, explain, and critique the rest of us--or so they believe. Many used to come to the feminist forums to do so (that poster, included).
Mansplaining? Is that the fall-back insult for any man who might actually have an opinion?
senseandsensibility (18,937 posts)
54. Yup
This poster even told someone above that they guessed they had a good reason for watching what they were watching. Gee thanks for the approval that no one was asking for. As Walz says, no one is asking for this. It's just weird.

59. Here are the posts I made in the History of Feminism group
I searched from 2011, as far back as advanced search allows, to today's date. [Followed by 5 posts in the feminist group]

74. MORE DEMANDS from you! Case in point....
And they have officially begun acting like eight-year-olds. It's around this point that most parents would be telling their kids to quit arguing before they get sent to the bedrooms.

42. Then people shouldn't whine about what they choose to do
This is like telling people to quit stabbing themselves in the face with a screwdriver when they complain about the pain it causes.
hlthe2b (104,248 posts)
45. Wow. Would you listen to yourself?: "Then people shouldn't whine about what they choose to do"
Who the hell are YOU to tell other DUers what to watch, what to listen to, how to feel about it, and whether or not they CAN complain? Good gawd, Kaleva. In the words of Tim Walz: "MIND YOUR OWN (DAMNED) BUSINESS!"
Remember the OP was started to trash people who watched, or agreed, with Katy Tur.

62. This is a discussion board and I'm free to express my opinions
As long as I stay within the rules .
A whole lot of attempts at censorship going on. People don't like what is said on cable news by certain pundits and some members here want other members to stay quiet or only post what they approve of.
People don't need to watch cable news if what is said upsets them. People are free to not read what I post or they can also place me on ignore. I don't really care.
You are allowing me to control your emotions even though that is not my intent when it should be you in control.
hlthe2b (104,248 posts)
65. Tim Walz said it best. You are free to have your own opinions but you don't get to inflict them on others...
There are boundaries. Constantly following posters to harass them with the same refrain in every damned thread falls way outside those boundaries.
Kaleva (37,249 posts)
67. Who am I following from thread to thread?
hlthe2b (104,248 posts)
69. I'm betting virutally NO ONE on this thread believes that. LOLOL
Hon, just take your little mansplaining exercise and run along now. I wouldn't want your pride to be hurt by my telling you to "MIND YOUR OWN DAMNED BUSINESS" but apparently they have.
More mansplaining.

72. I can do this for days
Alert on my posts that you truly think are out of bounds. You have the right to do so.
They've moved onto the "Am not!" "Am too!" phase of their deep philosophical discussion. And they continue along fighting with each other. Somebody throws out the "If you don't like my posts hit the alert button" card which is the DU debate equivalent of "Cut it out or I'm gonna tell Mom". They really are children. They think juvenile insults are hilarious, that a parent-figure (i.e. the Government) should take care of them and they often act up in public. But, what I find most humorous, is that most of them are well into their 50's and 60's (with a lot of them in their 70's and 80's) and they act so damn immature. It's like they never progressed past Elementary School.
