McCain had huge liabilities with people like me. The Palin pick pretty much erased them. In effect, Choosing her was proof that he really was who he said he was. I had intense doubts about that. I thought he was a poser and a charlatan.
What Republicans want in a leader is an in your face fighter jock who will stand with his friends. Palin delivered the message he could do that.
So Palin drove a stake through the heart of most of our objections. It was risky, it was brave, it was a finger to the sneering elites.
It was a huge gamble that the sneering elites would actually be as stupid as they usually are. Palin was a tar baby for all the things we hate theme for. They fell for it and destroyed themselves. So in addition to being risky, it was also brilliant.
Lets face it, they had all kinds of issues they could have talked about. Did they talk about energy? NO, they were more interested in Bristol. they said she had no international experience. Turns out she had a lot to do with the gas pipeline going through Canada, and she had to deal with all kinds of delicate negotiations because of the way Canada does things. And she has constant dealings with the Russians. So they couldn't fact check, because they were too busy making fun of her hair.
No civilized man likes to see a woman ganged up on. I think Sarah and John both knew what was coming, were hoping it would play out the way it did, and succeeded beyond their wildest expectations. She is a hockey fan, lets not forget. but still... Civilized people don't behave the way the press and the Obamites behave.
Anyway, the Palin pick was good not only because she is the goods, but it answers most of the objections to McCain himself.
