So, today my 6 yo asked me who the president of Egypt is. No lie. Little Einsteins cartoon was talking about Egypt. So I tell him. Then I ask him "do you know who our president is?" He says "yea, George Washington". I said no and told him who George Washington was and who George Bush is. He said "oh". Then he said "when is Barack Obama going to be president?"
I told him Obama wants to be president but so does a man named John McCain. I told him all the grown ups will go and pick who they want to be president. Whoever they pick will be president in January. I told him I will pick McCain. He asked "why?". I said because I agree with McCain more about what a president should do. (I know, I know I should have scared the crap out of him by telling him that Obama is evil incarnate). He said "oh," then "can I have some waffles?"
I know it's pretty lame bouncy, but it's a lot harder when you are confined by the truth. I don't think I converted him and no one jumped out of the bushes.
The really cool thing about the whole conversation is that this little guy was diagnosed with autism when he was 3. He had 18 months of therapy. He had words but no real conversation until he was well over 4. Some times he just amazes me with what he comes up with now.
