America's other pandemic: Cognitive dissonance

Put simply for purposes of this discussion, an example of cognitive dissonance is holding two totally opposing thoughts in your mind simultaneously and believing them both. This disorder affects perhaps a third of Americans -- The MAGAs.

Unfortunately, this particular virus makes many of those who have it dangerous. Dangerous to Democrats, dangerous to everyone's freedoms, dangerous to democracy. And there ain't no vaccine for it. (Not that most of them would take a shot if one were available.)

With elections coming up in 2020 and 2024, countless state laws have been passed by malignant Republicans who want to suppress the votes of the "THEMS." We here on DU are, of course, included in the "THEMS." And voters in many of these states are inflicted with cognitive dissonance. They will vote against their own best interests and if their state laws tilt and even allow for stolen elections, so be it.

So why aren't Dems in DC running around with their hair on fire? Hopefully, action is being taken by the Dept. of Justice to overturn and/or nullify these laws in some way beyond just lawsuits. Unfortunately, going to court takes time and these elections are coming at us like speeding bullets.

Of course, we need a massive voter turnouts regardless of the circumstances. And that turnout must be driven by the knowledge that the Republicans will do anything, anything at all, to "win" elections. If we allow that to happen, America is over.

San Francisco': video of horde of shoplifters fleeing Neiman Marcus with armfuls of designer bags

'Crime is basically legal in San Francisco': Furious shopper posts video of horde of shoplifters fleeing Neiman Marcus - totally unchecked - with armfuls of designer bags

A video captures the moment at least ten people stole loads of designer bags from Neiman Marcus in San Francisco and fled undeterred

Police are still investigating the incident and the suspects were already gone by the time they arrived

Witnesses told KTVU that the store was about to close when the suspects came in and smashed display cases before nabbing the goods and leaving

Shoplifting cases have been on the rise in San Francisco for years

The problem arose after charges of property theft less than $950 in value was downgraded from a felony to a misdemeanor in 2014

Let's see about this "cognitive dissonance":

37. And that is wat is happening. Organized crime. Notice how they covered their faces and hands

They are white, but trying to hide their race, hoping that that people will assume they’re black. I have heard that they are Eastern European. They were doing a lot of auto smash and grabs too.

No, they are not white. Look at the video, you stupid c**t.

39. Trump, the other MAGAs and the GOP have set the tone at the top for lawlessness.

These people don't earn enough to be tax cheats so they find other ways to break the law and get some goodies. Only thing is, when they get caught they won't have asshat lawyers to get them through or judges to let them go free without any accountability.

Ha.

51. This is a Daily Mail (Murdoch owned?) story pushing the GOP narrative for 2022- crime. Nt

So it didn't actually happen, you see. Or what happened isn't what you saw happen, and we know this because someone other than Maya Angelou reported it.

What was that you were saying about cognitive dissonance, liberals?

This change is statewide, not specifically SF.

The merchandise was locked up. NM took preventive measures. However, NM employees and security people (if any) are probably required - forced by NM's insurance company - not to interfere with shoplifters. I know for certain that Walgreens has this requirement. If NM does, any store employee who tried to stop a shoplifter would do so at the risk of their job, even if they succeed.

Unsurprisingly, DUpipo blame the victim rather than the thieves.

The SF (and other Bay Area) situation is a combination of: Prop 147; a prosecutor who won't meaningfully prosecute misdemeanor theft; SF subsidizing homeless druggies and mental cases; organized gangs.
If The Vaccine is deadly as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, millions now living would have died.

Because homeless shoplifting steaks is OOOOOO-TAAAAAAAYY!!!

PS: This is why Walgreens has closed 17 stores in downtown frisco and other stores like Target are either pulling out or closing early.  The losers are the local residents.

I do not want to hear the words "food desert" ever again.  When you through your laws destroy grocery retail in your own area don't get pissed when you have to Uber to the nearest store.

DU even gets psychobabble wrong.

Cognitive dissonance refers to the mental distress caused by trying to hold contradictory ideas simultaneously. This manifests itself when the sufferer rewrites reality in order to reconcile the contradiction. As in:

"The Mueller investigation is proceeding! The walls are closing in on Trump!"

*Investigation comes to nothing.*

"Mueller lied!!!"

The left's ideology is fertile ground for cognitive dissonance. Whether they experience it or not depends on whether they are self-aware enough to realize their self-contradictions and care about being consistent. I think we know the answer to that.

Oh, Cyrano - he's just some old burnout from Staten Island stinking up Florida now. The left loves to throw out psychological terms because they think they sound "educated" when they do that but they rarely even know the definitions.

Dream Girl, I wonder if she's trolling again. She lives down there:

15. Some of them are mired in their situation. Some of the do indeed criticism. I would invite you

To spend a week or so around the shit, garage, and criminality. They have trashed a beautiful city. I hate to say it, but progressive politics in the city have totally enabled them. Not taking about homeless families and other economically displaced persons. It’s the homeless who choose it as a lifestyle and come to SF with the intention of living on the streets. I really don’t care how they feel.

Well, when you elect the son of anti American terrorists (Weather Underground leaders) as the DA for the city this is what you get. It also leads to good people leaving a cesspool to live elsewhere and businesses either reducing open hours (Target) or closing stores altogether (Walgreens & CVS), neither of which is good for a city.

Star Member Dream Girl is risking a granite pizza for committing truth like that. Besides what she pointed out, there is also organized theft, where several thugs hit a store, grab fast and get out. Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto has had at least one store hit by such a theft gang.

The robbery up at NM was definitely an organized crime. After the thieves left the store each of them hopped into their own getaway vehicle and escaped. You can bet they were in the store prior to this to see where the good stuff was in relation to the door they exited from.

Now will these people be brought to justice? Seeing how SF City government turns a blind eye to crimes perpetrated by certain people my guess it will be a big fat no.

This is what happens when one race can claim no wrong doing because of "racism".
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

You are 100% correct, the leaders could care less as long as it happens to someone else and doesn't cost them $$$ or votes. :thatsright:
