What do you consider rock?
« on: January 22, 2008, 11:49:01 AM »
I guess I'm getting at that age.  I'm 32, I turn on the radio and what they play as rock, now, is Good Charlotte, Maroon 5, and assortes poppy crap.  What happened to the Pearl Jams, Nirvanas, STP's of the world.  I thought rock was coming back with Disturbed, Linkin Park, even Creed.  I really thought about this last night watching the trailer for Rambo (Let the Bodies Hit The Floor)  Am I just getting old?

Hell, right now, I'd welcome a return of the hair bands.  Actually I did like the hair bands.  Still have Poison and Motley Crue greatest hits.

That's not rock, that's grunge shit that KILLED the rock of the 80's.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

As for me, I run the gambit. I like probably something of everything mentioned here, but I hung out with the skaters and freaks back in the 80's. I've covered all this before. Wrote for a small local rag on this particular music scene: Chili Peppers, Descendants, Black Flag, Henry Rollins...from there it was on to 'Industrial' which included NIN, KMFDM, etc...sandwiched between it all I liked hair bands, non hair band rock, college music like The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees, and I was the typical teenage girl in that I swooned over Duran Duran.

We used to watch a lot of those bands and this little place that is now some trendy restaurant on South Beach. Cameo Theatre

I loved the hair bands, but they had lived out their time.  Nirvana also KILLED the career of Michael Jackson.

Iliked grunge when it first came out. Then bands like STP and Squirrel Jam started to put out sucky music. Sadly Alice In Chains suffered the death of Layne so they weren't around long enough to jump the shark.

I wouldn't mind being 32 again.  lol

As a 45 year old, I was blessed to be in my teens years during part of the golden age of classic rock:

Boston, Kiss, Journey, The Police, Led Zepplin, The Who, Queen, AC/DC, Eagles, Aerosmith, Van Halen, ZZ Top, Rush, etc.

Now THAT'S rock.

You folks are so lost.  Rock was conceived in the 1950's and came to life in the five years between 1964 and 1969.  During that short period in time we went from "I Wanna Hold You Hand" to "We are all outlaws in the eyes of America.  In order to survive we steal, cheat, lie, forge, ****, hide, and deal".

I still listen to Back in Black every night while I'm working out. Always get the blood pumping.

I just started back working out, so if I post a picture on here anytime don't be shocked.  You can't tell it yet.
