So much for ****ing "confidentiality." Recent job news-related.
Advertisements [?]Many of you have read that my boss has drop-kicked me and I am being reassigned to floater. It's better than being fired, but only just.

The only way me being switched to floater will work is if one of the existing floaters agrees to take this spot. So one of them did. Her name is Enid.

Doris, the HR manager, told me the whole arrangement would be kept in strict confidence until all the details were nailed down, such as my other attorneys agreeing to the change, the exact date of the transition, etc.

I ran into Enid this morning in the break room and – well, so the hell much for confidentiality.
Enid just bowls right into me, with other people there in the kitchen, talking about this switch we’re making, discussing little, insignificant details designed only to spill the whole thing to everyone else within earshot. Apparently this – this – this PERSON has no respect for me whatsoever.

But that’s not the best part. She said she had RECONSIDERED, after so many people told her “don’t do it! Don’t work for him!” (I'm thinking, "how do all these people KNOW, Enid?" See, there’s that confidentiality again.) But she decided that since she had said she’s going to make the change, she will go on and do it.

This brought on this week’s third or fourth anxiety attack. I had to weigh my choices: run for MLH* or throw her out the window. I knew the glass would be too tough, so I chose the former.

WTF kind of person does this? WTF kind of person says, “y’know, I know I shouldn’t be doing this, I know I’ll regret it, but I AM going to save your ass. You’d better be thankful.”

I’m humiliated enough already. But I really needed to hear her say this. In front of others. Oh, yes. I needed it.

In confidence.

What a litany of woe, no surprise she was moved doesn't sound like employee of the month.

And yet the DUmmie would be posting all about it and asking for advice if the shoe were on the other foot. Idjit. And ingrate too. Sounds like the DUmmie got his/her ass saved instead of being canned.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

As in all their stories 10% is what happened and 90% is left out as to the why and where.

No explanation, even a poor one,as to why he/she is being reassigned although the statement of it being their third anxiety attack of the week would lead me to think that the person is often calling in or otherwise presenting themselves in a condition unfit for work.

The rest of the story as Paul Harvey would say.

So according to the comments, she works in a law firm. A search on DU reveals that has done a "meetup" with californiapeggy. There are pictures on DU. Oh my.

A secretary who is assigned to no one but who fills in for other secretaries out sick, on vacation, etc.

My rezoom is updated and my agencies are contacted and I am on the prowl at DC area law firm web sites.

I'm ****ing pissed, but it's better than being fired. I wish I had time to go into what's going on here. Maybe tonight after I push myself at the gym to try to get this anger out of me.

i'm an atheist but all i can say is, God help me . . .

edit

PS I just thought of a bit of toilet humor regarding "floater." Apt comparison - that's how i'm being made to feel.

So she's been worried about being fired since APRIL????? That's over three months. She could have found another job in that time. She lives in the D.C. area. There are plenty of legal secretary jobs if you are as valuable as you claim to be.

UN-PC definition of "floater"---on the next rising tide, float-her right on out the door.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

I'm always fascinated to learn that these deep thinking, insightful, worldly, savvy, educated DUmmies seem to all work by the hour in retail or something like it.

I mean, they have two basic struggles in life: first, they have to keep abreast of the treacherous current geopolitical landscape while balancing the wellbeing of billions against the precarious state of our world's energy resources, all while championing essential human rights.

The other struggle is to maintain a healthy supply of plastic bags at the end of each checkstand.

I don't mean to sound like I'm better than them. It's just that they think they're better than ME. I just love finding out what they do for a living when they're not saving it from Chimpler McBushcoburton.

So basically, she was assigned to an attorney and did such a bad job, or had such a bad attitude, or both that the attorney wanted to get rid of her as a permanant employee.  The firm decides to move her around rather than fire her, and she is upset that they didn't just boot her.
