MAGA encounter with employee at Trader Joe's.

So I get up to the cashier and she spots my Mickey Mouse-shaped American Flag pin, apparently mistaking it for an "I Voted" sticker.

She- Oh, did you early vote.
Me- I'm excited that I get to do that on Monday with my son.
She- Where can I early vote?
Me- Told her when, where and how, then finished with- "I know that's a lot of info, but I'm a Precinct Committeeperson and wanted to give you the full picture."
Me- Also, if you don't live in that precinct, don't forget your State-issued ID, as they don't have the poll books for every precinct.

-then things go sideways-

She-Voter ID should always be shown to keep illegals from voting.
Me (trying to remain chill)- When you register to vote, you already have to prove you're eligible to vote.
She- But how do we know it's the registered person who's voting?
Me- We have biometric identification, where the poll workers check your signature against what's in the poll book.
Me- Voter ID is unneeded and basically designed to disenfranchise POC, elderly, people who don't drive. We should all be able to vote.
She- Well, we need to keep America great.
Me- America was always great (glancing around for any reactions - none - just uncomfortable folks in line)

I managed to get that all in while I was begin rung-up, but later wondered by TJ's doesn't have a 'no politics - no religion' policy.
As always, I thought up my zinger AFTERWARDS and should have said my stock line "A working-class person voting for Republicans is like a chicken voting for Col. Sanders."
Briefly toyed with reporting her to management, but didn't want to get her written-up or fired, over her foolish/uninformed comments.

OP thought they'd found a kindred spirit.  Everything was great until the cashier decided to let the cat out of the bag.  IF the OP really wanted to worry about "no politics" policies, why didn't it bring it up when confronted?  The OP could have easily said "sorry, I don't talk politics while people are working."  Nope, it only became a problem when the cashier let her know some truth.

15. Complaining to mgmt because she has a different political view?

Wtf? Wanting to get someone fired because they have a different viewpoint is despicable.

Smh.

24. Bigotry isn't "a different political view".

Calling people "illegals" is a slur.

4. Sounds like you did a great job of deflecting her ignorance in a positive way.

Hopefully your words helped others in the line who were feeling awkward. I am surprised that MAGA people would even work at TJ's since it seems here that all TJ employee's are democratic minded people.

Yeah, the OP made the same assumption.  How'd that work out?   :rotf:

5. The notion that "illegals" are trying to vote is ridiculous. Just more unsupported RW tripe. n/t

20. So true but nonetheless there are millions of gullible idiots in this country that believe

illegals are a problem at the polls.
Its stupid as hell and I pointed out to my younger brother who is a Trumper that if that was true then they must have voted Repugnant since the Repugnants have the majority in Congress.............he did not find it amusing but I did

They must not follow the news.  Just here in Texas we've had a few illegals who were caught voting and were found guilty.  I can't remember if they had to do time or not and don't have the time to look it up.

We are at war. Better you had her fired.

Another one calling for the firing of someone over a different political viewpoint.

What actually happened is that Star Member Snarkoleptic found the manager, complained, was told the cashier was one of the store's best employees, and left in a huff because (s)he couldn't get the cashier fired.

Having to show an ID would disenfranchise the dead.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Sort of off-topic but I wonder how many times Ted Kennedy has voted since he died.

What is the logic behind this argument the left always throws up when voter ID is the topic.  Are they insinuating that People of Color are to lazy or too stupid to have some form of valid ID?

Does the TSA asking for ID at the airport disenfranchise POC, elderly and people who don't drive?

I think Voter ID might possibly be the 2nd most important issue facing our country right now and hope Trump and the Republicans can somehow address it.  It's something that I think it's seriousness is often overlooked, even by a lot of Republicans (I would love to see a nationwide voter ID law tied to immigration reform..)

Supposedly it is just incredibly difficult for people who don't have transportation, handicapped, etc.. to get to the BMV.  Now... if that's the case, how are they going anywhere?  And if they aren't driving.. they HAVE to leave at some point either to get a ride, or go to the store, or something.  Even applying for public assistance, is going to require a state ID or Drivers License... so they should have at least one of those.

Then once they can't figure out how to overcome that, they say an ID is a poll tax.  This is a terribly weak argument IMO, but I can see how it might waffle a weak minded fence sitter on this issue.  Personally, I'm a fan of how Indiana fixed this issue when the liberals cried about it when we passed voter ID... the state waived all fees for voting age adults to get a state ID.  You go in with your documents to prove your identity, proof of residence, etc.. and you can get a State ID for no charge.

Once they realize an ID is free and there is no poll tax, at this point it's expensive to take off work, lines are long, etc.  Well if you're working... YOU SHOULD HAVE  A FREAKING ID, since no employer will hire you without one.

It's a big circle jerk trying to talk to a liberal about this.
