Oh my.

But it couldn't possibly happen to a nicer guy.

Original message

Property insurance tripled. Overnight.

Last week, the phone rang and I was informed that, due to all the fires out here and the fact that the house is on a redwood-covered hill, the property insurance policy was canceled, effective immediately.

When I asked for an explanation, all I got was a bucket full of crap. I was told that an "Inspector" had been out to inspect the property and had deemed it to be a "hazard". I was told he took pictures, measurements, etc.

Now, this is a rock-solid house with all underbrush cleared on a terraced hillside. The only way this place is going to burn is if it is fire-bombed.

And, without going into a bunch of unnecessary detail, there is no effing way that their "Inspector" set foot inside the walls of the property.

So I asked for a copy of the "Report" and got a total runaround.

After giving it much thought, I called the insurer (USAA) this morning to discuss what options (if any) I might have.

They actually told me that, due to all the recent fires, they could no longer incur the risk of something actually happening to a property like this one.

But they did offer to write a new policy, at triple the damned premiums of the one just canceled.

All of those thousands and thousands of dollars and never a single claim.

I feel like going out and making some news.

32. There have been no fires here since anyone can remember.

Their excuse was an excess of underbrush.

Nothing grows under redwood trees.

Hell, the sunlight rarely reaches the ground.

I guarantee you the "Inspector" never even laid eyes on the house or the surrounding grounds.

Did you read my post?

I am going to have to do without a lot of things, now.

You know, the lying titty primitive has always reminded me of some guy I saw testify in the O.J Simpson murder trial, just before I took off for the socialist paradises of the workers and peasants.

There was one guy, maybe half the lying titty primitive's age (i.e., circa 30 years old), blond, who had lived in a "guesthouse" for free, on the O.J. Simpson estate for some years.

His name was "Kado" or "Kaito" or something like that.

Remember him?

I'll bet this is the same living arrangement the lying titty primitive has.

My insurance company tried to pull a minor something-like-this on me...sent me a letter telling me I had to replace my roof within the next 3 months or they'd drop me.  It took a couple pictures of the roof to convince them there was nothing wrong with it.  Now, they won't cover it for as much whenever I do need to do it, but that still beats spending all that money and time tearing off and replacing perfectly good shingles.

(Maybe I should have used the argument that it would be bad for the environment to waste good shingles.   :lmao:)

Too bad TiT doesn't have enough sense to take a few photos...

Of course, when you're telling a bouncy, there isn't much point messing it up with real fixes.

Ummm...actually, that term is a colloquialism for ARSON you DUchenozzle.  I bet I could call the fire dept. on Monday and find out that the real cause of most house fires in Tiburon are ACCIDENTAL.  i.e wiring issues, candles left burning, food left on the stove etc.

"Accidental" is the cause of most house fires in the USA you dumbass... I know this because I am with the fire dept. here and I read nearly all of the studies that are released from departments all over the country.  What a retard he is.... :loser:

Wait...I thought the guy lived in town...the Bay Area is my second home, I really love SF despite it's moonbattiness...went to college there, have family there, grew up there for a good portion of my life, met my husband there, had my first child there...Tiburon (at least those areas in walking distance to the local bars) aren't heavily forested. I lived in Sonoma County and went to school at SRJC and Mill's College, it was an all women's college at the time so it wouldn't just take any fag off the street who liked the poetry of William Blake.  Ironically enough I had a friend who had a huge crush on Dana Carvey long before he was famous...she used to drag us to comedy clubs in the Bay Area and (how's this for irony) Doug Ferrari, as well as Michael Pritchard, Stephen Wright, and Dr. Gonzo were often featured. Doug Ferrari is incredibly funny and the thought of him marrying someone like sexpat (the life-sucking incubus moonbat from hell) is pretty much mind boggling to me. Anyway, I know the area well enough to know if TiT lives where he says he does, he couldn't possibly live in a heavily forested area. If this particular part is true then everything else he's said about the area where he live is a frickin' lie.

While I'll agree that insurance companies like raping customers for little to no damn good reason (and the prime reason I switched my car insurance BACK to Geico from the local State Farm agent), there's no earthly reason an insurer will simply triple rates without any justifiable reason to do so (i.e., a major claim).

More likely than not, they'll simply drop a particular endorsement rather than charge excessively, such as mold.  NOBODY insures for mold anymore it seems.  Also, the type of roof in CA is crucial.  Way too many homes still (stupidly) use those damned wood shakes that might look pretty, but go up like they're soaked in gasoline.  Fake fireproof ones are available, but expensive.

25 percent increase?  I might buy that.  200 percent increase?  No effin way.

That was once the case, I believe they began substantially broadening their base beginning in the 90s, and if he has a 214 it's possible he may meet current criteria.

However, the phenomenon of having to pay insurance premiums that exceed the cost of rebuilding is not at all uncommon in Californistan fire country, ditto for earthquake turf.  It's an economic decision whether to insure at all once things get to that point, of course the mortgage lender would normally require it in a conventional mortgage arrangement.

If he had been a dependent  of a USAA member when he was first insured he could continue as a USAA member after he became an adult, regardless of his military status. I got my first USAA auto insurance when I was 16 and my father was still in the army. When I enlisted USAA canceled me because I was an enlisted man and not an officer. After I was discharged from the Air Force USAA offered to reinstate me as a member.

TiT can whine all he wants but USAA is pretty much the best insurance available IMHO, so he's not going to get a better deal.

What a horrible thought...that this whining, lying lunatic could be the dependant...or former dependant...of a military person.

Tom's Private Hell, a Short Play in Three Acts

by BFDU

Act One: A Curious Phone Call

TiT: I need to file a claim, please.

USAA: We paid that claim several years ago, sir.

TiT: There's no way you could have paid that claim years ago. The claim didn't exist then.

USAA: Listen, sport, we paid the claim years ago.

TiT: I can verify that, you know, at which point you can be prosecuted under the Stolen Claims Act.

(sound of other line clicking, followed by dial tone)

Act Two: Another Bizarre Call

TiT: Yes, hello, I'm trying to file a claim, and I'm having some difficulty...

USAA: That can't be. We've paid the second-greatest amount of claims in insurance history.

TiT: I don't think that's true. I think I need to call the California Board of Insurance.

USAA: There's no point doing that. We're drinking buddies. Hell, they get us out of most of the claims we have to pay these days.

TiT: You know, I can probably verify that, too. I don't think they'd like you lying about them.

Act Three: Another Inexplicable Call

TiT: I am at my wit's end with you people. I just want my claim paid.

USAA: Did we mention that we were close personal friends with Tom Snyder?

TiT: You mean the guy who is so old that (a) he was lampooned on SNL by Dan Aykroyd in the 70s, and (b) is dead?

USAA: You know, I could very easily take a special marker to your file, so it would only show under certain kinds of light.

TiT: What. The. Hell?

USAA: Listen, Mr. Wright, we know millionairesses who are working back channels as we speak to take down the Bush Regime. You don't want to piss her off.

TiT: Is that a threat?

USAA: No. We just know rich people that you don't. By the way, would you like to buy a Snowbunny? How about a nice piece of Spode? A Ziggy card? Some Webkinz?

(sound of TiT's phone clicking...dial tone)

Here's the current USAA eligibility criteria from their website - as I recall, it was once indeed limited to officers, but that was quite awhile back:

Children of USAA members.
Active-duty officers and enlisted personnel.
National Guard and Selected Reserve officers and enlisted personnel.
Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS).

Former military personnel:

Retired officers and enlisted personnel.
Former officers and enlisted personnel who separated on or after 01/01/1996.
Go and tell the Spartans, O traveler passing by
That here, obedient to their law, we lie.

Anything worth shooting once is worth shooting at least twice.
