Oh my.

Somebody apparently eats as much as Fat Che, or Fat Che's little brother, the Fat Che's Little Brothert beer primitive who had all those rectal problems, and wondered why.

12,000 calories a day!

That only an Olympian can eat:

But Michael Phelps' recent tabulation of his daily meals conjured up an image of reckless abandon: 2 pounds of pasta, an entire pizza, energy drinks, two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast with powdered sugar, three fried-egg sandwiches with cheese and chocolate chip pancakes. The account left many asking, what do Olympians really eat?

15. You do realize he has to consume 12,000 calories to replace the calories he is losing.

You cannot consume 12,000 calories in vegetables just never going to happen, you would have to sit down and just eat veggies for several hours.

LiberalEsto needs to take that stick out of his/her/its backside.  There are plenty of super-marathon runners (100+ miles) who do long-distance runs as training.  Dean Karnazes told a story about ordering a pizza on a 30-mile run, having it delivered, and eating it before he got home.  Ditto for Taco Bell.

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

Gawd what an incredibly stoopid statement. Athletes can eat all that because they burn it off!
I seriously doubt All Michael Phelps does is that one Olympic event and then just sits around the rest of the time. I'm sure he swims many laps in preparation for the event as well as doing protein packing of some sort.

He swims over 5 miles per day practicing.

Judging from the way the boy looks....12,000 calories a day....isn't hurting him at all!!!! :naughty:

Oh shut up! This is not uncommon for people working this hard in sport. There is a man I recently watched a piece on who runs 30 miles a day or more to compete in this death valley run. When he's on that run he consumes whole pizzas and burgers and junk too. He said the same as one of the primitives...he simply could not consume enough calories through healthy eating to meet his energy requirement during that time.

Hey, Elliberal, heres an idea...how about tell all the fat kids the context of his eating habits eh? You know like he does it very temporarily while competing and that he is burning more calories then he consumes even from junk. So many primitives just don't have context for anything.  :thatsright:

DUmmies don't want their fatass kids to look bad beside someone with ambition. AMBITION burns calories, laziness doesn't. If you don't believe me, look at some of those on welfare.

If any of these clowns had ever gotten off their couch and run farther from their house to the corner 7/11 (okay, skateboarded to 7/11), they'd know how much SUGAR their bodies burn doing workouts.

Hence why I never hesitated to do carbo-loading before a long (20+ mile) run, usually 36 hours in advance (Friday night for a Sunday run).  It was NOTHING to hit Old Spaghetti Factory and do a "Manager's Size" plate of Mizithra Cheese spaghetti and garlic cheese bread, cause I knew it would all come off that weekend.  In the case of a marathon, an average sized person will burn off more than 4500 calories.  I am FAR from "average" sized.  I figured that between the warmup, marathon, and cooldown afterwards, I burned at least 6000-7000 calories.

Now you bastards got me missing Old Spaghetti Factory.  Dammit, dammit it all to hell!

er. Phelps burns over 4000 calories in the 200 IM race, his heart during a race will pumps 8 gallons of blood through his circulatory system (more than 2x an average person)  ...........DUmmies also compound it by not looking at the long warm down swims he does (in which another poster in this thread stated) sometimes up to 5 miles a day. That does not include any actual training in warm ups to an event. Besides, I have to clean up all the drool from my daughters and my wife after they watch him swim.

BEIJING, China (BNN) - Today the liberal watchdog group Democrat Underground issued a statement condemning 6-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, denouncing him for his 12,000 calorie a day diet.

Noting that Americans comprised just 5% of the world's population yet cosumed over 25% of its resources, burned 80% of its fossil fuels and produced over 75% of its carbon output DU lashed out at what it calls "calorie capitalism."

"This sort of disproportianate caloric intake strikes to the very heart of what is wrong with American society. We could feed 8 starving villagers in third world countries with the amount of calories Mr. Phelps consumes on any given day. He essentially killing 8 people a day just to win shiny medals."

A trainer for Mr. Phelps who asked not to be identified, responded, "Are they retarded? He's a world record setting athlete!"

DU was quick to respond that sports should not be a matter of who is the fastest or the strongest but who best sets the example of a global citizen striving for the best performance of humanity as a whole.

"****ing retards," the trainer responded before storming out of the Starbuck's where the press conference was being held.

I'm really upset at some DUers' comments to me
Advertisements [?]In a discussion on another forum about swimmer Mike Phelps's 12,000 calorie a day diet, I commented that his food did not seem to include any vegetables. One person wrote that grits was a vegetable; I replied that I thought it was a grain.

I realize the guy has to load up on a phenomenal amount of carbohydrates -- my own daughters were competitive swimmers when they were younger, though not anywhere near his caliber. But I posted that it wouldn't kill him to eat a piece of broccoli or something for the vitamins and nutrients. This netted me a number of insults, including calling me a "random blowhard," on the forum.

I don't think it was necessary for them to be so rude to me, another DUer, just because I wrote that I thought Phelps would set a better example for America's youth by including a few vegetables in his diet.

Am I off-base? I am really upset about the reaction my comments got.

I've got enough stress in the rest of my life (daughter recently in a car accident; being unable to find work; having to use up most of our tiny savings to remove deteriorating siding from one side of our house; developing painful osteoarthritis in my ankles and knees; husband looking for another job; other daughter's car falling apart; worried sick about the government, economy and the election) that these comments have me nearly in tears.
