I've been having a go-'round with a Prog FB Friend on this hoax. My latest comment on the thread is beow, but here's the full

:
So (every

has to start with "So", right?) I posted the link to the TMZ story about the moron who harassed Ivanka and family on the airliner. One Lib Christian friend posted an appropriate emoticon - not a surprise, she's not a DU-Grade Lib or Prog. Then this other FB Friend posted the Slate article on this "story". She was trying to deflect, doing an "everybody does it". I recognized what she was doing, but didn't call her out on it (being magnanimous is another essential element in

s, right). The story sounded plausible.
Slate specifically called out Fox News and Breitbart for being the cause of the family having to flee. MY
BS-Meter was reading pretty high on that point of the story, so I did something crazy that my FB Friend didn't think to do. I found and read the Fox News article. What I found is detailed below, but basically Slate lied (in finding the Fox News article I noticed that MMfA and Wonkette had hit-pieces "out there" similar to Slate's). So I posted a response to the effect that Slate was "incorrect" wrt what Fox had written. A couple of hours later, after getting home from work, I found the Breitbart article, and found, again, that Slate had lied. So I posted yet another response, pointing out that Slate was incorrect and asking whether Slate had even bothered to read Fox's and Breitbart's articles. In both responses I gave the link for the pertaining article. That was how things stood as of last night.
So

I came to this thread and saw "oberliner"'s post. I went a quarter step further and found
the ADL's Press Release online. When I went over to FB to post that url and a comment that the story looked bogus, I found that she had posted a quote from it (she's not quite DU-grade either, unless "oberliner" is a frequent voice-of-sanity on DU), but with a lingering snarl that Fox News and Breitbart had "clearly stok(ed) the fire". Here's my response:
So, let's summarize: Slate reported a hate-something-or-other, falsely accusing Fox and Breitbart of being the cause. There was no hate-something-or-other: the family went on a pre-planned vacation; Fox and Breitbart did not name the family; Fox and Breitbart reported the rumors as rumors; Fox and Breitbart quoted the school's explanation. The only fire-stoking in this situation was the attempt by Slate (joined by Media Matters for America and Wonkette, and many others, by now) to LIBEL Fox and Breitbart. Kudos to ADL for going beyond checking what Fox and Breitbart ACTUALLY WROTE and contacting the family who supposedly fled.
I also complimented her for her integrity in posting the quote from the ADL Press Release.
