Man! That was beautiful!!

.
Absolutely epic!  One step away from throwing the Thanksgiving tofurkey through the plate glass window in the dining room and running out of the house in tears.

Speaking of which, Thanksgiving should be fun this year, assuming that this meltdown continues like it did in 2004.

Ever lost a loved one? Ever lost a job? Yeah, as invested as I was in this election, it feels that bad.

Twice in one month, I lost my job, now this.

Knowing what is ahead, recession and wars and hate will rule  the day. I am wondering if I will ever work again.

I really need my DU family right now.  Really need all of you.
Isn't that the idiot who got himself fired because he was pushing anti-Bush propaganda with his company's convention display?

Edit: Nope. My mistake.  That was walldud.

This mother ****er was one of the biggest race baiters and shit stirrers throughout the primaries. He wasted no opportunity labelling the Bern-outs as racists and traitors to the party. Throughout the GE campaign he was unceasing in his bully tactics.

Response by bigtree

On Tuesday, roughly half of America declared war on their fellow Americans by sending a dangerously unstable demagogue, a obsessive compulsive megalomaniac, to lord over us in the White House. Prominent among those who voted for Donald Trump was a sizable bloc of people who share his racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, and bigoted views.

As I watched Pres.-elect Trump's plane land, as he made his way to the White House after accepting the invitation of the man he insisted for years wasn't a U.S. citizen, and unqualified to be president, I was absolutely overwhelmed with anxiety and foreboding for the futures of my fellow countryfolk.

I’m looking at the official reception of Trump’s presidency from the media and pols, and I’m witnessing a critical disconnect between the warnings Pres. Obama gave about a man with Trump's character and temperament assuming responsibility for our nuclear arsenal, as well as the rest of the myriad levers and hair-triggers of the presidency - mechanisms which can work to keep us safe and secure, or, conversely, plunge our lives into chaos and devastation - contrasted against the post-election politeness coming from him and Trump’s campaign rival, Hillary Clinton, urging us to 'keep an open mind,' and to give this man room to succeed.

So much of the Trump appeal in the campaign was directed at assuaging those forces which are actively working to limit or eliminate our government's protections, defenses, or aid to the vulnerable, imperiled, or afflicted among us. There was zero conciliation with the targets of his often vindictive agenda - no healthcare alternative offered, for example, to replace the Obamacare he pledged to repeal; no regard expressed for the innocent, productive, but undocumented residents who are now facing a very real threat of a major upheaval of their lives as Trump and his republican-dominated legislature threaten to muscle them out of the country, as he promised. Only his self-promoting insistence that whatever he devised would suit us all.

Trump supporters at the polls voted to effectively allow 100's of thousands of us to die unnecessarily every year for need of life sustaining medical care enabled through the ability to obtain or afford insurance.

Trump supporters voted to allow our planet to die, with the candidate promising to reverse and eliminate every vestige of the Obama administration's efforts to unilaterally move ahead of the republican Congress' obstinacy and resistance to efforts to confront and address climate change and global warming.

Trump supporters voted to re-institutionalize racism and bigotry - usher in a new era of 'Jim Crow' - rallying behind their candidate's promise to 'ban' Muslim immigrants and advancing the man who openly disparaged the character and reputation of Mexican immigrants and citizens, alike.

Trump supporters voted to uproot the lives of 742,000 young DREAMers, and place Trump in charge of thousands granted refuge and protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Trump supporters voted allow a regression in women's rights, from their candidate’s threats to reproductive choices, to implicit disregard for, and pledged hostility toward, declared victims of sexual assault. They’ve advanced a man to the highest office in the land who has been recorded bragging about his ability to ‘grab’ women in the most private of places - bragging that he’s essentially entitled to the assault by the mere virtue of his position.

Trump supporters have voted to allow Russia a role in our government’s consideration which is as dismissive as their candidate has been of Putin’s government’s abuses and intrusions into our political process – not to mention the myriad other activities of the regime which run counter to the legitimate and vital interests of our nation and our allies. Not surprisingly, just this morning, news came that a Russian ambassador is bragging of coordination between the actual Trump campaign and the Politburo.

Trump supporters have voted to legitimize white supremacy, most notably, the Klan, advancing a man into the White House who hired an avowed white supremacist as a senior coordinator of his campaign for president. Indeed, the entire white supremacy network is openly celebrating the Trump presidency as validation of their own brand of bigotry, racism, and divisive hatred.

Trump supporters voted to allow, sight-unseen, any conflict-of-interest their candidate will almost certainly have as president between his office and his many business interests and debts. Whatever he’s been hiding in his tax returns will tell that sordid tale.

Couple that with an upcoming court date in his Trump University fraud trial, and you have a presidency so mired in scandal that it will have zero authority to dictate anything from that high office.

One of the rationalizations offered for the disturbing and consequential statements Trump has made in this campaign, and what he’s said in the past, is that perhaps he didn’t really mean any of it. It was all just self-serving patter designed to win an election. That would make some sense, looking at the contradictions, duplicity, and flip-flops which have marked any (rare) discussion from the candidate about policy. He’s just an opportunistic demagogue.

What I believe is that Trump supporters have elected a dangerous, life-threatening sociopath who will only tolerate the needs of Americans as far as his own narrow, often personal, interests are defended and enhanced. I really don’t need any more evidence of this. Trump’s entire campaign has been a stark and sobering preview of the horror-show ahead.

I truly fear for our nation in a way that I don’t really believe I even fully comprehend the depths we will sink to before we have hope of recovering. We need to prepare for what will be a long and greuling opposition. We need to prepare and organize.

I am still recovering from physical symptoms it caused.

On Wednesday morning, I forced myself to go to the office through I hardly slept. At one point, I actually snapped at my manager saying 'leave me alone'. Naturally, he was upset. On that day, I finally wept in the car, which helped me a little.

Yesterday, I had to deal with headaches and aching body. I finally took a break from my work and had to lay in bed for two hours before I went back to work.

My daughter has been very helpful to keep me going. I woke up 3:20 Am on Friday morning and could not go back to sleep. This is how I ended up writing this mail to my fellow DUers.

I have a planned social event on Saturday and I am not quire sure what I may speak at the event. For I am actually afraid to find out if some of my social acquaintance turned out to be a Trump supporter.

It will take quite a while to recover. Right now, I cannot watch TV news or news show even TRMS. (BTW, she looked like she was about to cry.)

The hardest part of this election result was it was against all prediction. I still cannot understand what exactly happened. Why nobody predicted such a decisive Trump win. We discussed on DU about Newsweek article regarding his tie with Putin.

One thing still stick to my mind that it suspect Brexit result was Russian hacking. This result remind me of such possibility because it was so different from any poll prediction. Part of me want to just accept the result; however, some part of me cannot shake off this suspicion. This is why I am still very confused and cannot quite start my healing process.

Well, at least I can say we have one priority stand out. We cannot let Russia take over our country. This sounds so ridiculous up till one month ago. Not anymore. There are Republicans with whom we agree over almost nothing. They can be an asset to stop Trump from working with Putin to change the course of the world!!

I don't know if anyone can prove election hacking; however, I believe we can prove Trump were and will be working with Putin. Then we just need to start working for next mid-term election to get the house back. In addition, we need to get local government back so that we will reshape Republican's gerrymandering.

Dear DU, I really miss you. I never expect you to be this important for my emotional well-being. Right now, I am so afraid to speak out in general though I live in very blue area of Maryland. Thank you for doing this. It really help me to live through this very difficult period.

I've lived through the unpleasantness of seeing William the Indolent and Barrack the Arrogant Inept elected President twice apiece. As low as my expectations for them were, both were more horrible my expectations. But "physical symptoms"? "Snapping" at my manager? Taking time off work? Get! A! Grip!!!

I’m just as angry now as I was on November 8th. The Electoral College has got to go. We have lost two elections to this dinosaur that has mutated into something that the Founders never intended it to be. It was meant to protect this country from demagogues like this man, and instead the majority votes of our election will not determine the winner of the Presidency. Democrats in all races throughout this country received more votes than Republicans, yet we are still losing states, legislatures and now our government in Washington.

We need to become what DemocraticUnderground was intended to be. A place where we can rally and organize and help each other. I want to be able to come here and find out where protests are happening, where boycotts will be taking place, where and what we can do as citizens to protect each other and our country. Be that DemocraticUnderground because our country deserves nothing less.

He is on to us!  :panic:

Well... my joke user name was certainly close to the mark.

I walked away from DU (without drama or announcement, and remaining in good standing) sometime after the annexation of Crimea when I realized the degree to which Russian intel and propaganda agencies had taken on the task of funding the American alt-left. The “progressives” who were all about Russia’s title to Crimea, and the “progressives” tuning into Russia Today every night and reporting back on what “progressives” for hire were spouting was more than I could take.

Had I not left then, I would have surely left during the primaries when it became apparent that so many (most?) DUers were useful idiots for the RNC, regurgitating endless lies about Hillary’s fake scandals, and being allowed to do so.

HOWEVER, I have something useful to say here about the current situation.

I could never have *supported* losing the Supreme Court for a generation, and 15-20 million people losing affordable health insurance, for some 3-D chess bullshit about the big picture. Real lives matter. But since the horrible has happened anyway, comfort yourselves that that power in America is held by the party that wins state legislatures in years ending in *zero* (Census and redistricting)

Our Party would have been very much on the defensive in 2020, had we won this week, but now will probably be on the offensive in 2018 and 2020. Dems won the presidential vote in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2016, while losing the office twice. Dems got more votes nationally for Congress in 2014 while losing horribly. The system is indeed rigged. The actual MAJORITY in America is not allowed to have power. And that can only really change on the State legislature level.

Trump will destroy the Republican Party and hopefully we will be in a position to take ownership of the smoking wreckage, as we always do.

Now, how to handle the election result? I believe it is a straightforward TRUTH that 55 million Americans committed a hate crime, almost all with guilty knowledge. The most important step is to *shun* them. Treat them, all of them, as if they were wearing a Klan costume. Tell them, “I believe that by voting for Trump you revealed yourself to be a moral *monster* and I will not do business with you, will not date you, will not remain married to you, will not pretend anything you have to say on any topic has any potential merit, etc.. This crime against humanity (it is) cannot be allowed to be normalized.

Also, the polls were not so wrong... at least the national polls. Most got the result within margin of error. They said Clinton would get more votes, and she did. The last Fox News national poll was Clinton +2 and was on the money. She will finish the west coast counting with a 1% to 2% national advantage. And since Trump will probably end up a million votes behind Clinton, why even admit he is President except in some hyper-technical sense? Gore’s 500,000 can be played off as wiggle room in the system, but losing while winning by MORE THAN A MILLION VOTES is hard for the average person to countenance.

Sure, he is the President, but THE AMERICAN PEOPLE chose Hillary. They actually did. The States chose Trump. The asinine granting of different value to individual votes based on what State a person lives in has no place in a 21st century national election. The vote of a person in Montana elects TWICE as many electoral college votes as the vote of a person in California. Do the math. A Montana vote counts as more than two votes in a Presidential election.

Actual Americans, the aggregate of American adult human beings, did not want Trump, and 60% of the nation considers him unfit for office.

Peace.

This is why we laugh at you.

Quite the contrary! The Electoral College did exactly what the Framers intended. It punished a candidate whose focus and strength was in a few large cities and whose party has, for decades, spewed contempt on the normal working people who feed, clothe, and house those large cities and elitist pols.

I feel that I, as a middle-aged white man, must apologize for the 53% of white males and similar percentage of white females who voted for this stealth neo-Nazi. The neo-Nazi rattled the cage of racial anxiety, and he got elected. We non-racist white people and all people of color MUST turn out in 2018 and 2020 to repel the fascism that is threatening us. The Democratic Party must also go back to its 1933 roots for the working class and middle class.

I'm not sad. I'm excited. We get to try something new for the next election. We will form a new coalition. We've been friends to the unions for a long time, but can we count on the manufacturing unions going forward? Our righteous press for green energy and energy efficiency has hurt the UMW and UAW types. However, they were never real democrats anyway, and opposed much of what the country needs.

We can be stronger with a unifying message. No more false racial strife. We need to get votes based upon pocketbooks. What can we propose to lower the tax burden, invigorate business, and get people off welfare and into real jobs? A service economy will keep people poor. Manufacturing pays high wages. Let's go compete on the world stage by attracting businesses to us! Bring them with low taxes, cheap green energy, and the best highway and rail system!

Am I missing something here?

First this idiot says the UAW types were never real democrats but then closes by saying they don't want people in service jobs but in factory jobs...like what the UAW represents.

It amazes me how they can't even complete a thought without contradicting themselves but still act smug in their sense of superiority.

I do believe all of our worst fears will come to pass under Trump. The Midwest voters put in their own executioner. And they gave Congress to the GOP terrorists. And things will get much worse for them now. Trump has released an pandora's box of hate and racism and misogyny. In the end I do believe that the alt right, KKK and anti gay forces will now feel free to run rampant over minorities. And I do believe hispanics will be under attack and there will be deportations.

We have a monster we cannot live with in the GOP. They are now determined to destroy the Democrats completely and become the only party in power. You can expect even more attacks on civil rights and voting right as they reveal their hidden agenda. Unless they can be stopped the US is gone and will be turned into an apartheid and theocratic country.

The RW evangelicals are now saying they want power. That means banning evolution teaching, prayer in schools, more charters that are run by their churches, prayer in public places, suppression of non Christian beliefs. It also means marriage between church and state with laws actually based on the Bible. They also will put an end to the law that stops churches from being political. They also want to keep their tax exempt status and WANT federal money for their charitable programs.

When is come to women they will lose all their rights. And the GOP is really serious about taking the votes of women. The "Handmaid's Tale" or some version of it will be pushed. Personhood will end and make illegal most forms of contraception. 51% of the women voters went for Trump. They killed themselves and the rest of the women.

Look for the emergence of a police state. Now there are rumblings that protesters against Trump are terrorists. He sounds nice now but the real monster will come out. Remember his first tweet.

As for the media they will be censored if they even criticize Trump. He expects them all to be like FOX now.

I know I paint a bleak picture. But there were so many people around me in Colorado. They are hateful and vengeful and they are GOP. Welcome to the emergence of an American Reich.

BTW - Ryan is signaling the end of Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security. And for vets look for the privatization or vouchering of the VA system.

So, in other words, it was all about you being able to exert control over people's lives and as soon as that control goes to someone else you don't like the rules you forced on to everyone.

People! Get angry! Use that anger - this is a time for anger, progressive anger! We need to stop kow-towing to the right and to the weak-willed centrists who control the Democratic Party. It's time to take over the Democratic Party and take the fight to the Republicans. We must fight to win the hearts and minds and souls of those people who feel disenfranchised by elitist, Wall Street politics. We must turn them away from sexism. We must turn them away from racism. We must focus THEIR anger at the right target: the corporations and the rich who have shaped Washington in their image, tuned it to their needs and in the process, corrupted our system of government. We must restore activist government - the government of Abraham Lincoln, of Franklin Roosevelt, of Lyndon Johnson. We must build upon the best traditions of the US: Medicare, a fair go for all, regulation of finance, the redistribution of wealth from the very top to everyone else. We must use the next two years to raise hell and make Trump's life as difficult as possible!

Down with Trump!

The electoral anger of 2010 and 2012 wasn't enough to teach you we don't want your ACA and other LWNJ pipe dreams. The fact that single payer for Colorado went down 20% to 80% against in a state that voted for Hillary wasn't enough of a clue for you.

What part of "**** off!" just isn't getting through to you?

Whatever the cause of DU being down and the reason it's being kept off-line for nearly a week, one effect has been that Skinner, et al, have been able to vet what gets posted. So no posts that might result in Secret Service phone calls or visits; no too-far-off-the-D-Establishment-plantation posts; and a week for DU-folk to slump back into their normal and tame lunacy. That means banning evolution teaching, prayer in schools, 2.) more charters that are run by their churches, 3.) prayer in public places, 4.) suppression of non Christian beliefs. 5.) It also means marriage between church and state with laws actually based on the Bible. They also will put an end to the law that stops churches from being political. They also want to keep their tax exempt status and 6.) WANT federal money for their charitable programs.

1.) I travel in Evangelical and Creationist circles (so to speak). In the 5 or 6 decades I can remember, I have never heard this proposed. Literally. NEVER. Maybe by searching long enough one could find some one who advocates banning the teaching of evolution, but they are far distant from the Evangelical mainstream.

2.) There are charter schools run by Evangelical churches? If so, it would be news to me. Probably annoymorous "anonymous" is ignorantly confusing private schools and charter schools. Many Evangelical churches do operate private schools; likewise Catholics, of course. So parents of students pay the local, state, and Federal taxes that fund public schools, and then pay private school tuition for their children's education. [sarcasm] What horrible A-holes! [/sarcasm] An, on average, graduates of private schools kick the academic-asses of public school graduates. What annoymorous "anonymous" would probably find utterly horrifying is that parents' right to control the education of their children, to send them to private schools, was recognized by a US Supreme Court decision, Pierce vs. Society of Sisters, almost 100 years ago.

3.) I wonder if annoymorous "anonymous" realizes that "prayer in public places" is a right recognized by the First Amendment "Free Exercise" clause. Within the traffic and noise laws that apply to everyone, I can stop on any random street corner and pray as loudly as I choose. Within the access and group reservations rules that apply to everyone, I can hold a church prayer meeting or picnic in any public park of my choosing. Within the rules that apply to every nonprofit, churches can rent and use a school auditorium on a Saturday or Sunday for church services. If annoymorous "anonymous" doesn't like this, (s)he can get the US Constitution changed, or at least try.

4.) and 5.) Those claims are so monumentally STOOOOOOOOOOO-pid that no further comment is necessary or merited.

6.) Personally, give our modern political context, I think religious groups that intertwine themselves financially with government are playing with fire, and not a few have gotten burned over the past decade or two (e.g. the Catholic adoption agency in MA that withdrew from a state-funded adoption program). It's sad, though, for two reasons: the various charities who participate in government-paid programs are careful to use that $$ for the charitable purpose(s), not for overtly religious activities; where government social programs have about a 75% overhead rate, religious charities doing humanitarian work typically have overhead rates under 30% (IOW, for the same budget, those religious charities deliver 3 times the benefits to people in need as do government agencies).

When DUmmies get burned from touching a hot stove they think it will burn less if they touch it even longer. Brilliant!

That, is a very apt analogy.

I was thinking that, having been burnt, they respond by sitting on it. Maybe that's just my wishful thinking.

More bad news for Herpes. I just saw a report that several crates of cabbage have been reported missing.

Yes. I realize that the above was a bit obscure and will probably only mean anything to long time DUmmie-watchers.

For new members and lurkers: I am a fictional spirit-guide with no smell whatsoever. I am part irish setter and part pigeon. If you don't smell any strange smells it means I'm probably standing next to you. As I am a fictional character anything I post should possibly be considered fictional.

... We've been friends to the unions for a long time, but can we count on the manufacturing unions going forward? Our righteous press for green energy and energy efficiency has hurt the UMW and UAW types. However, they were never real democrats anyway, and opposed much of what the country needs. ...

The Dummy who wrote this presumes to know "much of what the country needs".

You still ain`t gettin any steve.
