Yesterday we were talking about this (HOT ELECTION)

Last edited Sun May 22, 2016, 01:12 PM - Edit history (1)

You get old press dogs together and we start comparing notes, That is what we do. Especially when we have hours to kill. Bored press no coffee, actually there was coffee, so I digress, even if expensive coffee. You know why it would be an insult to Californians and depress the vote to boot on June 7, if Sanders dropped? If you are not in CA I will forgive you for not knowing this. And if you are in this state, again, this is not something most folks know.

Just in San Diego we have had 3 rallies from the Sanders campaign, I meant the County. Twice Bill Clinton has come to town. And while he was still in he had Cruz come and we are expecting the Trump show next Friday, Oh and Cruz was going to go for the brokered convention and all that. So he was still a serious contender. That at least only took half a day.

Now last time we had Ron Paul, but he was not competitive at al. He was polling what, 5 percent? Though it was my first political rally, and like many press will tell you, they are truly somewhat overrated. Unless you are invested in the candidate, they all have the same dynamic to them... serious. It is a full day, for an hour speech... and god help you if you actually have breaking news, You are stuck. And anyway, I was recording the audio, on a table, the recorder did not grow feet, because my mind was stuck in ISO settings and aperture. My job at that point is to get the damn photo and that we did... My husband was doing the videography from the riser.

I am waiting for video to compress so I can start putting it on youtube, but this is why this is a very close race here. Both Democrats and the presumptive nominee for the Rs are coming to town within a week of each other. In the case of the Dems we actually had dueling rallies. Nope, we were not credentialed for the Clinton rally, so there is that. And we do not expect to be credentialed for the Donald, but damn it, I dared call him a fascist in print, so I expect to be dully ignored. That is fine. We expect a riot outside. So the real news will be outside, unless he actually makes news inside.

But people who were at the Clinton rally did tell us something interesting. Low turnout, and low energy. I will have to take their word on that. Again, old press dogs, we compare notes.

So go ahead keep telling Sanders to drop, I guarantee, and I suspect that is the goal, we will have lower turnout. And you know what? While that will not affect the course of this at the national level...things like Prop I in San Diego might, as in not passing. That is a local ordinance raising the minimum wage and giving workers five days of annual paid sick leave. They will surely thank you. And many of them will not come and vote in November, It is the usual crap and they are used to it. sadly.

So have a little patience, let the process play out. It is what two weeks?

Oh and my local Dem party did not endorse either candidate. And we had the who's who of the party at the rally last night. That was rather curious. The candidates working the line were not that surprising, see election is coming... captive audience, it would have been stupid not to, but the top layer of the democratic party was there.

Ok, Ok this is going to take hours, so I will start writing the story... you tube is going to take even more hours, even though I am compressing for that reason, But we intend to post the full video (except for battery change breaks) for your enjoyment or not.

Usually I do not save mementos from these events. But who knows, next time we have a candidate who is competitive who does show up I will likely be pushing daisies. And the Sanders campaign was nice enough to give the press badges that can be saved. Cruz, cheapskate, gave up stickers. Gummy and all, cannot be saved. And it was destroyed by the end of the night. And it is becuase that is far more common.

  • Not right, but not left, either.
For some reason, this is the first thing that came to mind.

Nads is as convincing an "old press dog" as the Pink Panther was an "old salty swedish sea dog".

Please, for the love of all that is holy, help me understand the above. For some reason my nadinese is rusty, and if I try to enter the above into the nadinese-to-English computer program the program crashes.

Was she on top of the table recording the audio? If so, did they mistake her for an egg or is it normal for "reporters" to get on tables? Does her recorder normally grow feet? If so, does it grow "feet" as in extremities or "feet" as in taller? Was she recording audio or taking photos? If you are attempting to be a journalist shouldn't grammar and punctuation matter more than ISO settings and aperture?

During the course of becoming a classically trained historian wouldn't the learning institute attended require some sort of course in composition? If not, wouldn't a real or imagined reporter at least self take some sort of course?

In nadinese, I think "table" = "tablet".

I can't help you with the rest of it.

11. What does this even mean?...

So here is a piece of trivia for you. When was the last serious presidential candidate to come to California? Tragically it was not Bobby, but he was the last Democratic candidate to come to the state. Oh yes, that was 1968. The last serious candidate to come to California was former governor Ronald Wilson Reagan, and the only reason he came, was becuase he was a former governor of the state. That was for the 1980 race.

Are you seriously suggesting that Democratic Primary candidates haven't campaigned in California since 1968?

One minute of googling gives this video of Hillary campaigning in LA during the 2008 Dem Primary:

I'm sure if I spent another minute, I could find a similar video of Obama campaigning in 2008 too.

Quality research there, reporter.

Old dog yes. Old press dog no. You would have to actually write or appear in some news media to be the press not the local free rag that gets used for everything from packing boxes to wrapping fish.
