Nads would do well to state that a shallow quake does not amplify the damage, it reduces its ability to spread things around.
I thought a shallower quake caused more localized damage and was less likely to even be felt farther away.
Think of a shallow earthquake as your childhood improvised explosive device set off on the surface of the local pond versus one that you let sink to the bottom. One gets you lots of fish while the other blows the hell out of the ducks swimming near it.Science means trying it yourself.
