Gun control and gun control right the hell now! tomorrow is too late, the next day is too late. We need this today right now.

Maybe if all of the people who lost someone in just several of these mass shootings were to descend upon Congress and State Legislatures everywhere, preferably showing photos of exactly what someone shot to death looks like, maybe then we'd get a little action.

But I'm not holding my breath.

is a gun-free zone, IIRC. And I believe the shooter may have been too young to legally own a handgun.

So, What kind of gun control would have prevented this from happening.

An inconvenient truth is presented.

They're producing the intended effect there. Of course, they didn't have the NRA to contend with, nor did they have a deeply ingrained, quasi-religious gun culture.

18. Yeah, we could always go with the mental health issue

and start putting everyone who seems a little flakey in a mental health prison to keep the rest of us safe. And then the only one's we'd have to worry about would be, you know, the guys who get pissed at their wives and take out the family, or the guy who gets pissed at his boss and takes out his coworkers.

There is no way to control mental health without stigmatizing a lot of people who have mental health issues, but who otherwise would never hurt a fly, which is most of the people with mental health issues (like me). Stopping them from owning guns will never work as long as guns are so easy to get and so many kinds of guns are so deadly and so easy to get.

The only way to handle this is to eliminate these Rambo guns that have huge magazines and auto or semi auto firing capability and just look so damn awesome and deadly. Hunters and target shooters and self protection gun owners do not need guns like that. PERIOD!

Make it harder to get guns and eliminate the types of guns sold in America, like Australia did. Hunters can still hunt. People who need home protection can probably still get a gun. Or a big dog.

No more excuses. And you know what? You may be new to DU but I bet you have already read all the on-line discussions about how to approach this, and options available, so to come here and start spouting BUT BUT BUT we need our guns is really pretty pathetic. I'm not buying it.

Or learn to piss and shit themselves?

53. My take on the 2nd Amendment

No court has ever agreed with me, and no court ever will, but I believe it's very clear the well regulated militia as meant to serve the needs of the nation, and the militia was intended to be organized and supervised and armed in a way to make sure it was ready to mobilize and fight when needed. It was not intended to be an unorganized, unsupervised collection of random patriotic guys with a random collection of weapons, walking around armed on the streets to scare their fellow citizens in the name of "freedom."

Ted Bundy....never used a gun. The killer clown John Wayne Gacy....never used a gun. Jeffery Dahmer....never used a gun. Crazy is crazy, and you people have the lock on that. Hell, Charles Manson never used a gun. He used his crazy ass mind to manipulate stupid people (reminds me of someone) to do his bidding. If it were up to you people, you'd regulate thought.

There is nothing ambiguous about the 2A. What is causing any perceived ambiguity are liberals trying to redefine the meaning of the words used to write it.

a 'Well-regulated militia' doesn't mean a government regulated organization. - At the time the 2A was written, 'Well-regulated' meant 'properly trained'. So, if necessary, citizens would be able to defend themselves against aggressors bringing deadly force.

It's a bit simpler - in expression, at least. Men who owned and knew how to use fire arms required less training, i.e. simplified the task of training that militia. Not that gun-haters will acknowledge that not-too-common-anymore sense any more than they are willing to recognize that the "right to keep and bear arm" is reserved by the 2nd Amendment to "the people", not to government entities.

Well, we know the killer was in his mid 20s. That said, he used his gun illegally, by using it in a gun-free zone. It's almost as if he knew he would face no equally effective opposition for an extended time period! Whether he obtained his guns legally is something I've not yet heard. Not that criminals forbidden to own guns are prevented from doing so.

It was not intended to be an unorganized, unsupervised collection of random patriotic guys with a random collection of weapons, walking around armed on the streets to scare their fellow citizens in the name of "freedom."

Hmmmm....  Well, DUmmie, let's see what the law has to say:

Quote
US Code, Title 10, Subpart A, Part I, Chapter 13, Section 311:

a.  The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.

b.  The classes of the militia are—

                   (1)  the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and

                   (2)  the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/10/311

Since "unorganized militia" pretty much means anyone who is a citizen of the US, intends to become a citizen of the US, between the ages of 17 to 45, and are not already a component of the "organized militia", are members of the ****ing militia.  That includes me (I'm eligible for recall to the "militia" until age 64), you, and the "random patriotic guys" you so glibly sneer at.

Since we are all "militia", and the 2nd Amendment clearly reserves the right of gun ownership to the People (ie "militia"), my gun rights are not up for negotiation.

A little education goes a long way, DUmbass, use what I've given you wisely.
"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and then bid the geldings to be fruitful."

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

Uh-oh. This should be out of the media by the end of the weekend. Just learned that the shooter is half black. Mother black and get this...Doesn't know his father. Coupled with the shooting of only white people and the Christian angle. This story is getting flushed pronto by the media.

On another note. Will Obama be giving $29 million of our tax dollars to the victims or does he only do that for "his people" in mass shootings?  Kidding, I know the answer.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Well said Bigdog, here's another example of what 'life liberty and the pursuit  of happiness' means:

Quote
"Ah yes, [life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness]... Life? What 'right' to life has a man who is drowning in the Pacific? The ocean will not hearken to his cries. What 'right' to life has a man who must die to save his children? If he chooses to save his own life, does he do so as a matter of 'right'? If two men are starving and cannibalism is the only alternative to death, which man's right is 'unalienable'? And is it 'right'? As to liberty, the heroes who signed the great document pledged themselves to buy liberty with their lives. Liberty is never unalienable; it must be redeemed regularly with the blood of patriots or it always vanishes. Of all the so-called natural human rights that have ever been invented, liberty is least likely to be cheap and is never free of cost. The third 'right'?—the 'pursuit of happiness'? It is indeed unalienable but it is not a right; it is simply a universal condition which tyrants cannot take away nor patriots restore. Cast me into a dungeon, burn me at the stake, crown me king of kings, I can 'pursue happiness' as long as my brain lives—but neither gods nor saints, wise men nor subtle drugs, can ensure that I will catch it."

-Robert Heinlein, 'Starship Troopers'

Lt. Col. Jean V. Dubois (Ret.), p. 119; expanding on his statement that "a human being has no natural rights of any nature."

These DUches need to realize that there is no rights without liberty,  and the 2nd amendment GUARANTEES liberty of our nation. Without it, we are one generation away from slipping into a dictatorship.
“Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and their freedoms”

“The best things in life are beyond money; their price is agony and sweat and devotion ... and the price demanded for the most precious of all things in life is life itself - ultimate cost for perfect value.”

They think that having a dictatorship would be dandy, as long as they were the ones doing the dictating.

Real life wouldn't be that way. :whistling: :fuelfire: :hammer:

DUmbasses don't realize that if the Left ever got their Glorious Revolution, that DUmmies would be the ones out picking crops by hand, or chained up in basements with gimp masks.

I have a right

to expect that I can go through my everyday life without having to worry with some nut with a gun killing me. I have that right and that right trumps the second amendment. This is bullshit that we have to live in fear because of a bad interpretation of the second amendment.

What a bunch of weak willed, gutless, oxygen thieving wastes of skin these DUmbasses are. I could be like them but have much better things to think about. I don't worry whether or not some nutcase with a gun will kill me. When it's my time to go, there's nothing I can do about it, so why worry about it.

There is a line from the movie 13th Warrior (a great movie if you haven't seen it BTW) that I've adopted as my outlook on life:

Solve a man's problem with violence and help him for a day. Teach a man how to solve his problems with violence, help him for a lifetime - Belkar Bitterleaf

If racist dog whistles are meant to be only heard by racists, then it is quite interesting how progressives seem to be the only people who can hear them. - Leonydus Johnson

What makes a good soldier? The ability to fire 3 rounds a minute in any weather. - Major Richard Sharpe

Does Hitler ahhh Stalin  errr Castro  Obama no ahhh Sanders know of this?
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
