Do you put your hand over your heart during the National Anthem?
Am I the only one who stopped? Back when Bush obviously was lying about Iraq?

Last week made me think I was almost back to where I could.

May be no big deal to anyone?

Yet you wonder why people consider you scum.

1. Only when I had to in school. Not since.

Just not a particularly demonstrative, patriotic type here.

2. Stopped in the 1970's

Never started up again.

Won't say the Pledge.

Won't sing the National Anthem and only reluctantly stand.

And definitely will NOT sing "Gob Bless America".

3. Sure. I'll sing the anthem too.

I don't know why some Democrats might think that singing the national anthem, saying the Pledge of Allegiance, flag lapel pins, flying the flag, etc. are undemocratic things to do.

For me, it would simply be hypocritical to do so.

It has to do with glorification of war and valuing one country/group of people above all others, whatever the cost..

to find them now singing "God Bless America" during the 7th Inning Stretch.

OK, thanks for asking. I feel better

77. I hate it so much, I always head to the bathroom for the 7th inning stretch.

I'm going to an Orioles game tomorrow. My game plan is to not be in my seat for that part of it.

At Nationals stadium, they won't even let you leave your seat unless it's between innings. So most of the time, I stood and wandered around. Of course that was a boring game, with the Nats ahead by like 9 runs early on.

25. Nope. And why the hell is the anthem played at sporting events?

Gives me the creeps. It's too 1984ish.

I really hate patriotism. It lets people turn off their brains and feel superior for no reason.

34. The American fascination with the Anthem and the pledge are signs of fascism.

That and the constant war on drugs, terror, and the demonization of Arabs, black people, gays, women, and atheists.

Did I forget anyone or anything?

91. I was in France last year and our tour bus stopped at a restaurant somewhere on our

way south from Macon. It was rather large as I recall. Alluva sudden the U.S. national anthem blared from the speakers in the hall. Surprised, we all scrambled to stand up and some of us sang. Then the Marseillaise was played and we remained standing and sang (the parts we could remember) that one, too. It was a nice moment in our mutual respect for each other...

I think that it has seen Casablanca too many times.

Back in the 70's, I went to a Forth of July Saturday night race at the local dirt track. Some dude there didn't remove his cap and place it over his heart when they played the national anthem. When the anthem was over, he got his ass whooped, not whipped but whooped.

They're having a big forth of July race this Saturday night. I think I'll go and see if there will be a fight. :-) :-)

There was the prayer and national anthem before every race, give it a few years, and there won't be. Seeing how NASCAR is handling the Confederate Battle Flag nonsense, I see those days being numbered for the prayer and the national anthem if something doesn't change.

My days with NASCAR are numbered anyway.  My wife is the world's BIGGEST Jeff Gordon fan, and when he announced this was his last year, she said she was done.  I had almost talked her into staying another year, seeing some more races at other tracks, until...

this crap with NASCAR over the Confederate Battle Flag made our decision for us.  I'm sure I'm not alone on this one.

I'm a Carl Edwards fan, but I agree with you, I don't like the Dillons, the Buschs (I think both are hot-headed, arrogant assholes), never really liked either Harvick or Keselowski, Danica is a joke, Stewart and Bowyer bore me (though it was fun to watch Stewart bounce his helmet off Kenseth's hood at Bristol a few years back), Newman is a nice guy, I met him at Martinsville and got to talk to him a bit, but there just aren't any standout drivers anymore like when the Pettys, Allisons, Earnhardts, and Waltrips ruled the track.  The cars are all cookie-cutter replicas of each other, just different decals, only 3 different manufacturers instead of the 10 or so there used to be.

I used to hate Kyle and Kurt Busch, but in the last few years I've come to appreciate their driving ability. I'm a fan of Bowyer and Kyle Larson. I used to dislike Harvick, but he's kind of grown on me.

I do wish the stock cars would actually have the appearance of being stock.

Though I really liked Dale, Sr. and am sorry he got killed, the driver I miss the most is Harry Gant.
