I like how they ignore the higher taxes paid by those in Australia.  When all is said and done, those minimum wage workers there have about the same or less purchasing power as minimum wage workers in the US.

Ignoring buying power and tax burdens is pretty common in pop-comparisons of different countries' wages and prices.

IDK but recently a friend asked me to stop at a McDonald's for him and buy a double quarter pounder EVM because he was unable to go himself. The total came to $7 and change. 

I remember at one time being able to pay with a fiver and getting change back.

Good point! Buying power varies considerably within the US. One of the reasons I knew nads' statement that San Diego has the second highest housing cost in CA is that I knew SF and San Jose - an hour's drive apart - are the highest among CA's large cities. A small town in KS, like Marysville, is far, far, lower.

Actually there is a good chance that a Big Mac goes down in price if there is a higher minimum wage. It will also be better tasting, have a ZERO percent chance of spit, body hair, or other human debris, and be more consistent. McDonalds will automate.

I know BlueJazz has a picture, but I don't believe what the picture depicts is true. There has to be more to the story that will show that it isn't true or there is something about the comparison that is neither direct or honest.

Off the top of my head, I can think of three possibilities and a certainty:
1. The number of employees in the Aussie McD's (who may be hard working youths) may be less than in the American McD's (who may be lazy bums with a sense of entitlement). Fewer employees = lower cost per sammich.
2. Other operating costs may be lower in the Australian McD's. Lower overhead = lower cost per sammich.
3. The Big Mac is a loss leader at the Aussie McD's, but not at the US McD's.
4. The DUmmy is lying.

H-5 for smoking out the most important flaw in the "comparison"! Just before looking in on this thread I went over to HackTheMenu and found that the generic price of a Big Mac in the US is $3.99. Where the $4.62 number came from I can't say, but the simple fact that the last digit isn't a "5", "8", or "9" all but guarantees that it's bogus. Marketing guru-oid life forms in the US have a fascination with prices ending in those digits, e.g., 3.95 or 3.98 or 3.99. apparently a lot of people see $3.99, but their brains perceive $3. I've trained my brain to round up when I see one of those digits at the end of a price.
