As others here have noted, Occupy was a pitiful failure, for the following reasons:
1. They were a pointless movement to begin with, they had no concrete, articulate goals (Other than, in a Tommy Chong- esque voice, "Hey, MAAAAAN, rich people are, like, evil and stuff, because they, like, have more stuff than us, MAAAAAAN! They should be, like, punished for crimes against social justice and all their stuff given to us, MAAAAN! Someone pass a bong over here, MAAAAN, it's been a while since my last hit!"), unlike the Civil Rights movement, which they idiotically tried to compare themselves to. One incident that summed this up was when some of New York's political leaders asked the Occupiers to send up a representative to meet with them and discuss the movement's goals and demands with them. Any serious political or social movement would see this as a wonderful opportunity to get their message out to the public and come closer to their goals being met, but the Occupiers responded to this invitation by sending a dog as their representative. While I'm sure it gave the dope- addled trust- fund brats something to laugh about while passing the bong around, it caused the city's leaders and the rest of the public to see them as they truly were: A bunch of stupid, spoiled children who didn't even take their own movement seriously.
2. For all their claims of representing the public and "The 99%," their antics greatly hurt, inconvenienced, and generally pissed off the public. Between the noise code violations like their drum circles keeping people up all night, their tendency to leave public parks and other areas meant to be enjoyed by the people looking like garbage dumps and smelling like port- a- potties, their deliberately starting riots and crime, their contributing to the spread of rats, lice, and a whole host of contagious diseases, their blocking up traffic for no reason, their disrupting and harassing local businesses that refused to give them free food and other free stuff, and their randomly accosting civilians (Including children on their way to school) for no good reason, I don't think anyone was sorry to see them go.
3. Mayor Bloomberg finally growing a pair and having the Occupiers thrown out for all their illegal actions (Even if he did likely do it to ensure that the Occupiers wouldn't disrupt any of the major events that took place in New York around the holiday season) was the beginning of the end for them. The harsh New York winters brought their occupation to a true end, and come spring, all but the most fanatical and insane Occupiers had lost interest (More on that next).
4. The fact that the Occupiers had no leadership, leading figure, or organized structure of any kind meant that, when the movement attempted to reassemble itself in the Spring of 2012, its most psychotic members were able to take the reins and lead what was left of the movement in even more repulsive directions, such as members of Occupy Cleveland getting caught plotting to bomb a bridge on May Day, and Occupy Oakland Patriarchy (Occupy Oakland's feminist wing) protesting AGAINST a conference designed around combating child sex- trafficking.
5. Obviously, in the 2014 elections, the Left got crushed, not doubt partially to the Occupiers' actions revealing to the American public the true, ugly face of the American Far Left.
