I dunno how accurate this information currently is, as I'd read it shortly after Winthrop Rockefeller died, and his son Winthrop Jr. was still alive.....which was some years ago.
Winthrop had been the outlier, the odd one, of the five Rockefeller brothers--John D. III, Nelson, Winthrop, Laurance, and David. Made for the strenuous life, early on he worked the oil fields while his brothers puttered around in the office.
He was conservative, they were liberal Republicans.
The rest of the family, being effete snobs, ignored him.
He had one child, Winthrop Jr., also snubbed by his liberal cousins.
While his elitist cousins squandered away their own inheritances, Winthrop Jr. ended up--and by far--the richest of that generation of Rockefellers.
Not bad for the black sheep.
