Help keep America beautiful...deface a liberal.

The Democrat and Republican parties are simply the left and right wings of the same bird of prey.

The road to freedom is paved with dead liberals.

I had never heard of a flee-bag motel until I read the Susan Adkins bio linked earlier.  Wouldn't the term imply one is rapidly removing oneself from the location of ones luggage?  It didn't say "flee-with-bag".

I've never heard it "flee bag" only "flea bag."

Never heard that one.

The worst motel I stayed in was Rockingham, NC.  It was a one-level cinderblock job, and the owners had bashed a hole in the wall to fit a window AC unit.  The patching job was less than good.  The carpet was paper-thin and the rest of the room was (overall) dingy, dark, and dirty.  I was scared to use the shower.

There was a giant metal plate in the middle of the highway out in front of the place.  Every time a car or truck hit it, it made this huge *klang!*.

Worst. Hotel. Ever.

I stopped at a little place late one night, had my kids all along.  Their rates looked good, so I went in and registered.  I should have gotten a clue when the clerk said, "How long?" and seemed surprised when I said, "Just one night."   :???:

We got to the room, and as I expected, the bathroom wasn't very clean.  I scrubbed it down before I let the kids brush their teeth, then told them to go to sleep.  The first one in bed said, "Hey, Mom, there's only 1/2 a blanket."  What?? :???:

I checked the other bed...same thing.  (OK, I admit, I was really slow that night.  It had been a very long day.)  I called the office and asked what was up with the blankets.  The clerk sounded terribly embarrassed, and was at the door in a couple minutes with real blankets, several towels and some toiletries.  Then he apologized, adding, "Most of our customers take a room for 1/2 an hour, maybe a whole hour tops."   :o

I felt like  :thatsright:.

I've stuck to "chains" since then.

I was dumb enough to go on 'race day' withouth checking the good hotels first.  I figured, Rockingham, middle of nowhere, I don't need no stinkin' reservations.  Call me a noob.  Guess I learned my lesson.

Never heard of "flee bag" either.

I've only stayed at one crappy motel in my life.  My family was travelling to Jacksonville on a business trip (stepdad brought us with him), and the local Holiday Inn was booked where we stopped, off the interstate.   We didn't have a reservation, either.

We found this run-down place, and I felt so dirty just walking into the room, where a roach crawled across my shoe.   :(  The beds were nasty, and the blankets full of holes.  And don't get me started on the bathroom.  :puke:

Next night, though, we were able to get rooms at the HI.   Motels like that are why I'm willing to pay extra for the chain hotels.

I think I slept on top of the sheets at that hotel.  I wasn't getting in that bed. :-)

We did the same. LOL  We did get lucky, as we happened to have extra blankets stowed away in the trunk of the car, so we slept on those.

Yeah, I've gotten to the reservation-making point, too.  (the one time I didn't, we slept in the car.  :-) )

Wusses.

You haven't lived until you spend weeks at a stretch in $45 a week or less motels. Had to make that $27-a-day FCLA last. :-)

I don't go anywhere without prior confirmed reservations.  I once tried to wing it and I ended up staying in a regular room instead of a suite at the Fairmont in New Orleans.  That turned me off to spontaneous travel forever.

Wow...  That sounds rather elitist.
