So I got a tour of the Coffee shop I will be working at. (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024172474)

It is owned by the treatment center that is treating my PTSD. The 2 GM's are councilors. They watch of systems and, if you are switching medication, for side effects. It is a working Coffee Shop, yet also therapy.

Some that are there are also in my support group. It will be nice working with people that understand what I am trying to accomplish because that is what they are there to do to.

The atmosphere is very loose and casual. The uniform is blue jeans and snickers. There are enough working at one time that if someone needs a moment for some reason, it won't be a problem. They said this is to help people learn how to cope with triggers that may come up in everyday life. And if a trigger happens, I can step off, grab a GM and work it out.

Oh, and I am also going to try a new treatment they are working on here at the U of A where they use Ultra Sound to help with the depression part of what I have. I am looking forward to it.

Uh-oh, she will not be able to use the PTSD excuse for why she is a lousy worker anymore if these other people are halfway competent. Odd are looking good she is going to have "issues" with her meds pretty soon.

Let me get this straight:  There is a business that sells sugared caffeine products, staffed by mental therapy patients, while under the watchful eye of two councilors who are on station to provide intervention if one of them spaz's out...  Did I get that right?

There is a place called "the point" in Covington KY that is completely staffed by developmentally disabled people.  They  supposedly make wonderful food there and have an uncanny attention to detail and customer service which could be attributed to their disabilities.  Unfortunately, having the cast from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" manning the operations of a coffee house does not provide great confidence in their final product.

I don't think I want to consume anything prepared by a staff of lunatics.

Lunatics are not known for meticulous hygiene.

They should not he allowed to work in jobs which require handling of food and beverages

Public safety hazard.

Yeah, that would bother me too.

But they have to do something, so as to learn self-esteem; work is good for them.

When I was manager of a privately-owned student union years ago, there was a big food-court in the building, and I understandably was in favor of hiring the handicapped.  And I did.  But they did the cleaning-up stuff, nothing having to do with preparing and serving food.

It worked well.

I guess it's better than cheeseburgers.

Wonder how long before the cash drawer comes up short?

With that many wackos running around the joint with pots of steaming hot coffee, I doubt that the 2 GMs will be trusting any of them to man the register.

No, but I wonder how long it will take for the other waitresses to start complaining about there being no tips left on their tables.

And LFR smirking at them all while she slinks toward the door for a fast get-away. With a pocket full of nickels and dimes jingling a tune while she scampers out into the street.

I might be headed to Joplin tonight.  If I go, I might stop at Popeye's, and see if her sister is in.

If I see her, my only problem will be trying to communicate in a dialect of English that she can understand.  Here are her last two Facebook updates.  Does anybody know what language this is?

What a whimp.

I know people that have gone through more than that and are coping just fine.
Where I live in Fla, a few years back got hit by 3 major hurricanes, (one of them twice,... my hubby and I were on the road got hit in a second state by Katrina)

And I don't know anyone here that got PTSD from them.

My nephew, down in Miami ...him and his family hid in the bath tub while the roof flew off their house.... They are all fine.

You may be onto something there.

A kind of Potemkin village within the confines of a do-gooder asylum.

All the workers and all the customers are inmates.

Nurse Ratched and her sidekicks watch from behind two-way mirrors, operating electronic zappers attached to each lunatic.

Shortchange a customer? ZAP!

Spill some sugar? ZAP?

Piss in someone's coffee cup? ZAP! ZAP!

Graduates get preferred treatment at the Sally.

Have the owners now or ever in their lives donated to a conservative cause? They may need boycotting.

Aren't they gonna supply the rack if it is as Tess surmised?

I wonder if Amber isn't in some facility for the mentally handicapped and the coffee shop job is some part of a patient rehab program.

Sounds like a really good guess.

Sounds like exploitation of the workers to me.

Are they paying a Living Wage? Full health insurance and bennies? Thirty hour work week? Profit sharing?

Have the owners now or ever in their lives donated to a conservative cause? They may need boycotting.

Sounds more like a 'halfway house' to me.

It is owned by the treatment center that is treating my PTSD

That ain't hard to figure out.

I do hope for the best for her though.

If you're correct, her time in the drug infested, dripping Ho projects is limited.

They may not appreciate her posting at the DUmp.

The University of Arizona Medical Center is conducting research into transcranial ultrasound. It looks like Amber is a lab rat.

Does one suppose they get paid for that sort of thing, much like people who "donate" blood plasma?

That's what I was thinking too.

Is this a good idea after her recent hit and run accident?  Wasn't she in the hospital for a concussion?

Amber doesn't give it away, but she does go cheap. The medical center would only have go give her a pack of smokes or a sweaty $5 bill.

They generally get paid minimum wage or slightly above.

I don't know if the FDA still allows it, but I've met more than one person that volunteered for that kind of thing.  They weren't all there, if you get my meaning.

Every experiment needs a control group. She may be in the "jellied  brain threshhold" group.

Surely the general public will not be allowed in the place.

I wonder what sort of liability release form they make everyone sign who works there?

Yeah, I thought about including the diners, but I figure the sane people already know what they're getting themselves into by eating at this sort of establishment.

On that note, we have something similar around here that I support in more ways than one because of the changed lives I have seen come out of it.  It's Christian-based, so the primitives wouldn't be interested in it.

well, they would, if they could take advantage of it and come back to the island later to bash it.

Has Amber said anything about her laptop computer lately?

She was really really attached to it.

<<<suspects she lost it, it was stolen, or it was pawned.

The most likely outcome, though if Chief Running Drugs or an associate stole it, I suspect that she'd shut up about that, too.

She is using the one in the library so we do know that she doesn't have the laptop anymore. I suspect the pawn shop.

She doesn't own anything else of value worth trading.

Yes but it's also useless to use legal documents - like liability release forms - with this particular class of employee, as well. After all, if they aren't "of sound mind" when they sign the contract, and what's more, you're aware of the fact because you're the one with the dart gun full of Thorazine on your hip, there's no real way to enforce the contract against them if the cheese should happen to fall off their cracker in the middle of brewing a vente half caff/decaff for some hapless customer.
