Just before the president of the United States makes an appearance at a speech, a usually tall, muscular person with a machine gun hanging under his suit coat quietly walks on stage and hangs the presidential seal on the podium front.
It's an impressive looking thing that conveys a sense of the power of the top elected office in the land and, indeed, the free world.
But Barack Obama's crowd has decided not to wait for any of the formalities like a presidential election, an inauguration or even a nomination, which he still hasn't actually officially won yet. Wasn't it Hillary Clinton who was so sidely accused of thinking her nomination was inevitable?
Obama now has his own Great Seal already. And it is really, really big. It's big like the tires on those elevated pickups in the parking lot at NASCAR races where you look out the car window and see nothing but fist-sized lug nuts.
Obama's new seal looks really presidential, which is probably a coincidence, don't you think? Obama's seal has an eagle just like the president's seal and he or she is holding arrows to signify war, which Obama was against before it even started.

it was sort of a presumptuous, over the top move, to be sure.

Why is it ever since before the primaries, every time I think of him I think of the Dead Kennedy's song, "Holiday in Cambodia"?
Nah, can't be.../sarc

politicians are surrounded by sycophants and yes-men, so it's easy to get confused.
i hope mccain keeps this "maverick" edge. it may work out for us. personally, I think that
we are going to get blown out in november, but I am always hopeful.
I don't like mccain very much, but he may be the guy to match up against The BarackStar!

agreed. good post by chris, and a H5 for him.

As much as it pains me to admit this as well, delivery is in this day and age ALMOST as important at the message itself.
Fred (whom I supported and campaigned for in the primaries) had a good message, but horrible delivery. One can only hope that McCain can strike a balance.
The Barackstar! has great delivery, but a horrible message. One can only hope people see through his Elmer Gantry tactics between now and November.

you have a great point. it's not what you say, it's how you say it.
The BarackStar! said he was going to fix my oceans for me. hell, I didn't know that they were broken.

People are beginning to laugh at Obama - people who weren't laughing a month ago. People are beginning to laugh at the people who aren't laughing. This is getting to be fun. It is still over two months until the convention.
Like I said elsewhere, I fear for Obama's health and wellbeing. Liberals hate to be laughed at. Liberals play dirty and they are in it to win.

Apparently "vero possums" roughly translates to 'yeah we can', but here's to hoping this is the real translation of this guy's political career...

Oh my -- Obama has gone and inspired my next photochopping :D

H5's all around!
Sparky - totally agree. Fred was my man. It's a shame he didn't cause an Oooobama-like fervor.

I cannot figure out your pessimism either. You never pass on an opportunity to inject it. It is like it is controlling you. I think Obama is in your head. I think you have a deep subconscious desire for Obama to win - a desire even you do not recognize.
But fear not! History is not on Obama's side. We are being force-fed the same leftist media noise-diet we are forced to ingest every four years. This season has the media especially up and cooking. The media controls the noise, but they do not control reality.
Obama will lose at least 40 states. Like it or not, John McCain will be the next president of the United States. McCain will not try for reelection in 2012. His VP will run and most likely lose to a very "central" democrat.

Somebody has to be the antedote to your Obama infection (affection?). :lmao:
It is hardly "insane". This is not a liberal nation. Ten states is about all Obama will carry. Bank it.

I just think we are witnessing a phenomenon. people aren't listening to what he is saying, but they are
enraptured by him nonetheless. it's all a little scary.
maybe I will feel better after the conventions. we will see what the numbers look like after that.

How long till we start hearing the stories about teachers bitching about not having an Obama picture hanging up on the wall next to a George Bush picture? :thatsright:

And that's good, how? Give me four years of a Carter, which will in turn insure 12-20 years of conservative control, over the mess that we're dealing with now. Seriously, this 40+ state thing won't happen. McCain is putting states in play that shouldn't be. Indiana, Colorado, North Dakota, the Carolinas, Georgia. He should already have those states sewn up. Not to mention that I can name for you ten states that will not go to McCain (Massachussetts, New York, California, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Washington, Delaware, Hawaii, and Maine). Once we get serious about our expectations, then we can start thinking about scenarios that might produce a McCain win.

Yeah, I read that. They think everybody is as gullible as their base.
Asked to explain the new seal, Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, "It's a mix of presidential politics and a call for hope and change."

what's the difference when the obama campaign says, "It was only a one time thing all along", and when I think to myself, "wow, that was pretty damn stupid. I'd better not do that again". :-)
maybe I will try it the other way next time. :p
