Title: DUmmy darkangelnumbers Spins A Nursing Bouncy, Starts A Catfight
Post by: GOBUCKS on September 15, 2013, 08:50:31 PM
You may remember DUmmy darkangelnumbers.

She is a regular in the DUmp nuthatch, trading mental illness horror stories with her fellow DUmp lunatics.

About once every two weeks, she puts up a dramatic "Goodbye-DUmp" post, then comes back within a few hours.

This time, she dreams up a nursing job in Alaska, though she only had the idea of nursing school in a DUmp post a few months ago.

This time, alas, an actual registered nurse DUmpette calls her on her absurd bouncy tale:

12. I'm curious how you can get a job offer as an RN when you just started nursing school
and were shopping for your first stethoscope for clinicals a few months ago:

Received offers for jobs. As soon as I pass my NCLEX, I will start working. The offer i have is for Jan 2014.

I see you keep tabs on me. Are you doing the same to all the other posters Heddi? Your behaviour is really creepy.

17. Sure
I'm an RN. I know how long nursing school is. I know of no program where you're buying your first stethoscope in July and getting job offers for January.

I only pay attention to people whose stories are odiferous

I started my CORE classes in Jan and will be done by the end of Dec! Maybe you should read my posts if you're actually saving them ( how creepy )

And obviously littman cardio wasn't my first stethoscope, I needed advice as far as upgrading from my Classic.

You really need to apologize. (But I won't hold my breath.)

I completed an accelerated nursing program, and nobody had a job offer in September.  People thought that it was impressive that I was applying to jobs in October, and I was one of the few that had an interview within a couple weeks of graduation.  Mind you, nobody was desperate enough about getting a job in September to be applying in Alaska

When the darkangel lib caught the Heddi lib in a lie, he/she was actually complimentary. Heddi just took it the wrong way. How could a lib, who always lies criticize another lib for lying ?

Started in January and ended in December.  A little less than 12 months, but we needed to have a Bachelor's degree already and there was a fairly long list of pre-requisites that were required.

Thanks CR!!! Now I think I understand. The BA/BS was the key info I was missing. I bet you had to have a bunch of classes in your BA/BS that had to do with chemistry/biology etc.  So if I am understanding what you are saying... it's pretty much the advanced nursing stuff you had to do after you got the 4 yr degree?

I know nothing about medical degrees. I just like to be well informed on general things like that.  :cheersmate: :cheersmate:

I actually had a BA in History, so it is more like I got all my Gen Ed requirements out of the way.  There was a list of 9 pre-requisites that had to be completed as well like Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, etc. They also expected a minimum GPA of 3.0 for all college courses.  Basically the nursing program was strictly nursing related classes for three full semesters with clinicals several days a week as well.

This will be the funny part.  If she takes a job in Alaska, her state tax burden will be nada.  If she establishes residency, she may even get a Oil revenue check.

THen, after a couple of years she gets tired of darkness and cold and all that sunlight she moves to California.  Her tax rates skyrocket, and she gets to see the difference between dummie govt and tea party govt.

Actually there is a company that is advertising in the American Journal of Nursing for people to work overseas. But I doubt that the primitive will get hired as they want someone with experience.

I will fall back on the Coach's First Rule; DUmmys lie, they lie all the time.

There is no job in Alaska. In fact, the darkangelsnumbers is not even in a nursing program. The Heddiprimitive might be a CVN.

HI-5 for getting into a very demanding field.

I'm a perpetual patient.     I can tell which nurses like being a nurse and which are only there for the money.   :-)

The darlanglenumbered primitive never did say what type of nurse.

The type is Registered Nurse. They don't have degrees for endoscopy, E.R., etc., it's all RN. The only nurse specialties I know of are Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Anesthetist. If I'm wrong, CR will tell me. My mom and my first ex are nurses and I have a cousin who's a Nurse Anesthetist. I question the DUmmies claims, though. That's way too damn soon to be getting offers.

Sort of a funny story, I guess.

Both my parents were R.Ns.--although my father was, strictly speaking, a C.R.N.A., a registered nurse-anesthetist, but spent nearly all of his adult life as a hospital administrator.

They rarely, if ever, used "R.N." at the end of their names, even on official medical documents; just their names.  (I suspect that was kind of irregular, but they got away with it.)

It was as if people knew they were nurses anyway, by their style and manner.

One time, when I was still pretty young, I spotted my mother's signature on something, and in that instance she'd actually used "R.N." at the end of her signature.  For a while there, I supposed she'd served in the Royal Navy, and wondered how that'd been possible.

No, I was thinking more like RN, LPN, and maybe a few other certifications.
Most don't need the schooling of an RN.  I suspect Dorkanglenumber to be referring to one of those.

<<<<< Has daughter that is an RN. Worked for John-Hopkins for years before taking a better paying job. (same field)

I take the state nursing boards tomorrow, and while I have been looking, there have been no solid offers as of yet, because I do not yet have a license. I highly doubt that she got a job offer while still in school. I am also pretty sure that anywhere willing to pay to relocate anyone will want experience. I was the most marketable person in my class due to my class standing and my military medical experience and the offers are not pouring in right now.

Nobody in their right mind would extend an offer to a student.

Thanks! It takes around 48 hours for your name to show up on the list around here, so my job hunt should start back up on Monday.
I married military so relocation was part of the wedding vows. :-)

Some hospitals, especially chains offer scholarships to prospective nursing students in return for an employment contract. Usually it was 2 years. But it was not that big of a commitment because other hospitals offered buyouts. That was several years ago when the nursing shortage was critical.

Good luck on the state boards. With your background and obvious intelligence, I'm sure you'll pass with flying colors, so congratulations as well.

From everything I've seen about the market for RNs, you should soon be able to write your own ticket, unlike DUmmy darkangelnumbers who will continue to spin bouncies about her imaginary career.
