Welcome to the voting thread for the Top DUmmies of 2012!
There are awards given out to the twenty top DUmmies, culminating with the top award, the Top DUmmie of 2012, and three special awards.
Anyone is eligible to vote.
If one seeks guidance or insight, the nominating thread provides much information about individual primitives:

If one isn’t sure about the exact primitive screen name, or the primitive himself, it’s perfectly okay to inquire on this thread. It’s also okay to “campaign†for one’s favorite primitives on this thread.
Voting is open until supper-time Wednesday evening, December 12; one may change one’s votes during this time, but such changes must be described as changes in votes.
Voting may be done here on this thread…..or, if one chooses to keep one’s votes private, it may be done in a g-mail to clarebootheluce@gmail.com.
If one is not a member of conservativecave, the private option is the only option available, but it’s an option.
Awards will be dispensed in ascending order, from bottom to top, beginning the afternoon of Christmas Eve, December 24, and continuing on through to the Top DUmmie of 2012 the afternoon of New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2012.

The "Steve", Omaha Steve. It's only fitting the namesake of the award be given the first award. Steve Dawes has shot himself in the foot so many times, it's a wonder he still has feet.

Since I was late to the party on the nominations, I will now be early on the voting.
For the Willie: Alan Grayson. Through the miracle of redistricting, Alan "Dick" Grayson got himself elected to Congress again. That makes him one of the few DUmmies with a life outside the DUmp--which, I guess, qualifies him for the Willie. It is amusing whenever Ol' Guts has his staff post a form-letter appeal on the DUmp, asking for money. The gullible DUmmies actually think Mr. Grayson is talking to them and cares for them! Hee! Hee! What saps!
For the Steve: Omaha Steve. I never got into the whole Elect Steve Dawes thing, but this new award is named after Steve, after all, so he, Omaha Steve, aka Marginal of Omaha, ought to be the first honoree.
For the Rob: SidDithers. I nominated Sid, and now I will vote for him. He is one of The Bullies who hound Nadin from thread to thread (along with zappaman). I call them Nadin's Fanboys, the guys Nadin puts on her iggy list. SidDithers lampoons Nadin with real and often subtle wit, which usually goes right over the Know-it-all's bald head. Sid is one of the few DUmmies who can be intentionally FUnnie. Many are unintentionally FUnnie, Nads herself being the parade example. But El Sid can do FUnnie on purpose.

The only reason I nominated him was because I thought that he deserved some kind of recognition.
I never thought he had a chance to win, but I thought it might be considered an honor for him to be nominated--you know, like with the academy award nominations for movie actors.

Exactly, a likability award. I hope whoever runs the nominations in the future is taking notes. But I'm afraid that democrat underground doesn't have a very deep likability bench.
By the way, franksolich also gave me a mild tongue lashing when I made the nomination but I decided not to reverse my decision and withdraw it because zappaman has given me a lot of joy with his bon mots at nadin's expense.

Not voting yet, but I just have to say that to TRULY honor Steve, he should come in third place for this award. Otherwise, this could be the first voting result, ever, that he actually won. I don't want Conservative Cave to be responsible for the only Omaha Steve victory.

Okay, I get you now.
There's a flaw in the private voting system, however, where if one doesn't want to vote on this thread, one can vote by sending a message to clarebootheluce@gmail.com. That's me, and I'm no expert on discerning the difference between a real e-mail and a fake e-mail, or the source of an e-mail. I never bothered to learn; here on conservativecave, that's Chris_'s job, and he does it very well, and so I always figured, well, if Chris_ knows this stuff, no point in franksolich learning it too.
I do anticipate some funny business here-and-there with the private voting, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I was tempted by nads raconteur extrodinaire, but she's been trying too hard and her quality is definitely fading so I've decided she shouldn't get any votes this year.

Omaha Steve - I'm afraid that it has to be. Having been given so much advice and doing the precise opposite...and reaping the consequences. It is only fitting that he wins the inaugural award of this eponymous laurel.

You know, because what we wanted to happen early last month didn't happen, I consider the big guy's campaign to be the top story of the year from Skins's island. I wish it'd been second place, but that wasn't to be.
In an ideal world, the big guy would be winner of all three special awards, for spreading the good name of Skins's island out into the real world, especially in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area, and among law-enforcement staff looking for light amusement on the roof of Nebraska, the floor of South Dakota.
And then of course being his own worst enemy, and also being hilariously funny to read.
The Triple Crown of DUmmiedom: the Willie, the Steve, the Rob.
It could all be the big guy's but someone forgot to nominate him for the Rob.

Systematic Chaos cant help it, coach. He has never taken responsibility for anything in his life. It's always the high school bullies, (which is hilarious, a guy Steve's size was approached by several players on the first day of school about being coming out to practice, the smallest player on the team made the hardest pitch.) Later, he's always had depression or a physical condition he could use as a crutch. It's all well and good for him, I suppose.
Then someone comes along and proves he doesn't have to be the invalid he claims to be. He hates that.

That might be a requirement in the future, if any funny business is detected in e-mail votes (nothing funny has been detected yet, though).
There were some changes this year, which might or might not lower participation in the Top DUmmies contest.
First of all, nominations were accepted only from regular members of conservativecave. This is because in the past, we used to get some really off-the-wall nominations from other sources. The DUmpster here is the largest-known repository of primitivia on the internet, and it's reasonable to assume that members here are rather, uh, more expert on individual primitives than members of other sites.
By doing that, the number of nominations was cut down considerably, and what evolved was a good, solid, strong slate of candidates, no silly or frivolous ones.
One used to also be able to vote on a voting thread at our old home, a place for which we all have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration, especially under its new ownership, but participation in the thread over there was so minimal so as to not be worth the time and trouble of always checking it.
It needs noted though that members of our old home who aren't members here, can still vote via e-mail.
Also, members of the DUmmie FUnnies on freerepublic occasionally "voted" on threads over there, but that's a no-go this year. And again, members of the DUmmie FUnnies who aren't members here, can still vote via e-mail.
Hell, even primitives on Skins's island can vote via e-mail, but just as with decent and civilized people, only one time. The DUmpster is not a corrupt big-city Democrat machine, after all.
All votes via e-mail, as in the past, are kept strictly confidential.
This "tightening up" the rules wasn't anything personal; it's just that things got out of hand over the years, taking up more and more of Mr. Wiggum's and franksolich's time. And real life in December is a busy time for us too. And it became even more imperative this year, when the Top DUmmies became a one-man operation.
I'm not complaining--no way, not at all, as it's been a lot of fun--but this all-over-the-place chaos and confusion and skirting the rules is the reason this is franksolich's last year promoting the Top DUmmies. It's been a lot of fun--it's been glorious, exhilarating--but the Top DUmmies is best not run by someone who has the habit of trying to please everybody all the time.

I can understand that sentiment, but I see it the opposite way.
In my ideal world, the weeping neckbeard would finish no higher than fourth in any category.
It would confirm his lifelong status as a consistent, incompetent loser.
A win would be the highlight of his miserable life.

I think this sums up the character of the big guy rather well.

You know, Nads would be perfect for the Steve--it's like she has a permanent "KICK ME" sign on her backside. But, alas, she was not nominated. And Pitt could get a lifetime Steve, sliding from international best-selling author/up-and-coming pundit/Pied Piper/Wunderkind of the DUmp to, now, a plump, middle-aged, sometime-bouncer/Barcalounger pilot. But he too was not nominated for the Steve.

You know, sir, it's unfortunate the DUmmie FUnnies never covered the www.electstevedawes.com controversy while it was going on, because with the lack of Skins's island exploding election night--unfortunately that never happened--that was the big story on Skins's island for 2012.
I know it's a policy, and a well-observed policy, of the DUmmie FUnnies to avoid "borrowing" from other sites, and using its own original material from its own "finds." You after all want to be an original, not an imitator. It wasn't like I was determined NOT to do a DUFU on Omaha Steve. It's just that it never jumped out at me, in a quick and easy way, as especially DUFUable, given my métier and my time constraints. I just didn't have time to get into the Steve Dawes Situation like we did the Andy Stephenson Situation back in the day.
I scan the DUmp from time to time, when I have time, and I see what tickles my FUnnie bone. That's usually what I go with. Now I do also scan what's going on here at the Cave, and I often get leads on threads I end up DUFUing. So this forum IS a big help to me in finding material.
I don't always have time to devote to DUFUing. My real-life workload has increased quite a bit this year. And my DUmmie FUnnies partner, PJ-Comix, has dropped off significantly in his DUFU output over the last couple years, spending more time on couponing and his blog at NewsBusters. So not everything gets covered. C'est la vie.

Now as I understand it, we have until 12-12 (SUPPER TIME!) to possibly change our vote. I did vote for Marginal of Omaha, but now I am rethinking that decision. But before I switch, I would like to hear a case made for any or all of the OTHER nominees for the Stevie ("the primitive who’s been his own worst enemy the past year, making an ass of himself without any help from anybody else").
You know, Nads would be perfect for the Steve--it's like she has a permanent "KICK ME" sign on her backside. But, alas, she was not nominated. That primitive who worked as a booking agent for concerts in a small town in Illinois, who blabbed on Skins's island that he and his boss were upset about Ray Charles (or some other celebrity; I dunno) supporting family values, and wouldn't book him.
And then his comments got back to his boss, and others in that town.
So he went to the meta forum and cautioned the other primitives about disclosing too much personal information.

It truly surprised me too, but that's what the exit polls show, a third of the way through the election.
The exit polls don't reflect votes cast via g-mail though; and those totals when added in could be spoilers.
By the way, nothing funny's going on with the g-mail votes; I got seven of them, and they're all from bona fide sources, people familiar to me.
But anyway, I thought for sure Atman would be a shoo-in for the Robyn McGrath award; I just couldn't see any other primitive who's been as rollicking funny, as the evil twin.

But his contributions to our entertainment have been so few, so far between by comparison with the reigning DOTY, as to make his candidacy a joke.

Now, you know that while I've spent some years away from here, I've never been exposed to ethnicities other than the Slovaks and Hungarians of northeastern Pennsylvania, a rather close-knit group hostile to outsiders, and to the Danes spread all over Nebraska, a rather open and receptive group.
The Irish are one of the largest ethnic groups in Nebraska, but in no way--not even close--do they seem to be similar with the Irish of the provincial blue urban enclaves; they don't see anything "special" about being of Irish derivation.
Maybe in Omaha--where they still have those obscene "wakes"--but Omaha's an anomaly.
And among the blacks out here, they're more likely to be humming "git along little dogies" or "home on the range" than hip-hopping and rapping.
I don't think I've ever in my life seen someone from either group dance a jig.

As for SC arrival, I'm sorry dude but I think you are full of excuses and this is said as someone who has not only lost weight but been foisted back into the land of the living after a divorce. The longer you say you can't, the more likely it will be you can't. What I'd like to know is do you really want to go back into the land of the livng and at what point are you going to do that? you know you won't be your image of perfection before you should walk out that door and claim back your life right? One is in kidney failure for years now and the other is a severely autistic child. I can't abide by that and I think my position is far more compassionate then any liberal you know since I care about people who truly can NEVER care for themselves not having resources drained away from them by folks who by virtue of the number of hours they can commit to posting and playing games do NOT need the extended care of others in order to survive. Yes, that's what grievously concerns me about this situation.
On one hand, I derive some comfort out of that the Las Vegas Leviathan had the nuts to come here, while most of his fellow primitives don't.
But on the other hand, it presents some, uh, problems.
For the Las Vegas Leviathan, now that he's made contact with "the enemy" (quotation marks sarcastic; we're actually very nice people here), he's earned the distrust of his fellow primitives. Primitives don't like other primitives making contacts with the real world, and if one does, the other primitives shun him, if not outrightly assail him.
For us, since the Las Vegas Leviathan might have injured his standing on Skins's island, it means his quality and output there might suffer.
As moderator here, I'm very concerned about the inventory, and the quality of that inventory.
Each primitive is a brand-name, and each campfire that primitive puts out is a product.
During an otherwise dull year on Skins's island, the Las Vegas Leviathan proved himself a Mercedes-Benz brand of differing products. He's one of the top-of-the-line brands here.
Put the Las Vegas Leviathan's name in the title of a thread here, and watch what happens. It's not only a big draw, but an immediate draw. Decent and civilized people see his name in the title, and scramble to open it to read and comment upon it......and before they bother checking out other primitives.
Even if the subject's wind energy or the composition of Pluto, or some other boring subject, if the Las Vegas Leviathan's name is the headlines, people read it, eat it up, gobble it up.
I wouldn't say he's our top product we offer here, but he's pretty close to the top.
But because he took the risk of making contact with us, his relations with the other primitives is likely to deteriorate somewhat, and hence his quality. He might end up being only a Chevrolet line of products.
I welcome the Las Vegas Leviathan here, and thus far he's been reasonable company, but I'm concerned he might've degraded himself to only an "average" product-line, rather than the top-of-the-line he'd been before.

Oh now, you know that your perception and my perception frequently, if not unanimously, coincide.
If there's any members here who see exactly eye-to-eye the primitives as they really are, it's GOBUCKS, BadCat, Tucker, USA4ME, and franksolich. We've been down into the Depths far deeper than anybody else; we know better than anybody else how vile and disgusting and nauseating the primitives really are.
Yeah, we have to deal with sob-sisters here, who maintain some sort of Pollyanna innocence about the primitives, much like the old grouches who used to populate our old home (but who fortunately seem to have drifted away). But unlike those old grouches, the sob-sisters are naive out of innocence, not wilful grumpiness.
It's our job to show them the primitives aren't worth caring about; they're only primitives, after all.
However, as moderator, franksolich is morally, socially, and professionally obligated to treat all members--all members--with respect, including the properly-registered Las Vegas Leviathan, whether they've been here since the beginning, or showed up just last night.
I guess what I'm saying is that while I wholly and enthusiastically endorse your own feelings about the primitives, if in fact not more so, as a moderator, I really can't say it publicly.

I hate using my iphone to post so I just kinda followed along. My husband OTOH had to replace my iphone screen cuz it's been cracked for a long time (decided to just change it to a white one as long as I was changing something) and it was a nightmare. Keep in mind he does this kind of thing for a living, dealing with sensitive, teeny tiny motherboards, wires, etc...if he messes up an entire fab can go down...but this was ridiculous. And the damn case doesn't even fit that well. But at least I'm here to participate in the grand finale!

Well, even before he showed up here, it looked as if he were going to crack inside the top ten anyway; I dunno where, as I'm not keeping a running tally, but probably top primitive anywhere between #05 and #10.
Since I'd speculated he'd be in there somewhere, I'd already started writing his award, a rough draft, and it was going to be incisive, cutting, innovative, breaking new ground.
But then he showed up here, which changed things abruptly.
It's like cooking or chemistry; one can mix twenty ingredients or twenty chemicals together to make something, but then the inclusion of a twenty-first can change the whole thing, it ending up something wholly different.
The Las Vegas Leviathan didn't do franksolich any favors, coming here.
Excresence happens, but I'm still at a loss what to write about him now, since all that I wrote before won't work.

As a fictional spirit-guide I feel that it is improper for me to vote; however, I would like to offer some opinions.
I am really disappointed in the DUmmies' output this year. The only one who has been really consistently entertaining is nadine, and it just seems like she's trying too hard to be a repeat winner. Sure, many on the list have had some entertaining posts. Taverner's inane rants come quickly to mind. When you think about it though, in most cases it's not been the individual DUmmie posts that have been entertaining as much as it has been the wit displayed here in dissecting said DUmmie posts. In my opinion the only saving grace for this year's competition is the hard work the Mr. Wiggum and frank will put in, and the excellent write-ups that I know frank will write. All of the DUmmies who make the final list should personally thank coach and Ralph for making them more than what they really are.
Despite my opinion above, I have been somewhat impressed by the DUmmie output since the election. I had figured that a BamBam loss would make them crazy, but I didn't expect that a win would make than even batshit crazier. If the nuttiness, craziness, bitterness, etc that they've expressed since November would have been expressed to the same degree since January we really would have a jam up competition.
As for LVL, I am impressed that he actually had the balls to show up here, but it does concern me to a degree. Despite what the DUmmies like to claim, the democrats are famous for artificially skewing elections. I think this is just another democrat trying to do what democrats are famous for doing.

I'm thinking about--right now, I thinking 50% "yes," 50% "no," about doing it--for Christmas Eve Eve, December 23, posting my personal awards--not connected in any way with this contest--for my primitives, showing how even though they lost, they truly deserved to win.

Well, even before he showed up here, it looked as if he were going to crack inside the top ten anyway; I dunno where, as I'm not keeping a running tally, but probably top primitive anywhere between #05 and #10.
Since I'd speculated he'd be in there somewhere, I'd already started writing his award, a rough draft, and it was going to be incisive, cutting, innovative, breaking new ground.
But then he showed up here, which changed things abruptly.
It's like cooking or chemistry; one can mix twenty ingredients or twenty chemicals together to make something, but then the inclusion of a twenty-first can change the whole thing, it ending up something wholly different.
The Las Vegas Leviathan didn't do franksolich any favors, coming here.

I've since decided to salvage some of what I'd written for your award, to use for the award for Pamela, the demtenjeep primitive, so it's not a total loss. Maybe not much of a loss at all, once I adapt it to her.

But if he is so far in front that no one could catch him--oh well. So how do the exit polls look at this point? Is there anyone (Aviation Pro? PCIntern?) who could catch him? If so, I would vote for that person, so that Marginal of Omaha could lose his own award.
Also, in these fast-fleeting hours, I want to encourage everyone to vote for, or change their vote to, SidDithers for the "Rob." The last I looked, Sunday morning, the big guy had what appears to be an unsurmountable lead for that award, and it doesn't look as if there's been any sort of movement towards any other primitive since then.

You know, the sparkling old dude is the one and only primitive I'd go out of my way to meet.
His wife of course dislikes me, because she thinks I've slandered her, when in fact I've never said anything but the blunt truth about her, but that's a small matter; I'm sure the sparkling old dude wouldn't hold it against me.
The sparkling old dude, once he got out of the Navy, having honorably served in both the regular Navy and the Navy Reserve, went to work for a food-service company that catered to colleges, hospitals, other institutions.
He did rather well there, rising into the executive ranks.
But alas the company exists no longer; apparently despite the best attempts of its founder to stave off buyers, it got bought in a hostile takeover, and all those in executive positions had to be paid off in not golden parachutes, but at least silver parachutes.
It's all too bad, because apparently the company, once so excellent, went downhill under its new owners.
This was the same company that catered to a small private Presbyterian college in Nebraska that I attended one semester, before transferring to the University of Nebraska. Their cafeteria chow was great, better even than some five-star restaurants, and I mean that sincerely.
This would've been about the same time the sparkling old dude was rising in the ranks, but not quite yet in an executive position. Maybe a district or regional manager, or something. The company was very concerned about "feedback," and solicited it all the time. I wonder if perhaps the sparkling old dude and franksolich met in real life (without knowing who each other was), and if we had, the sparkling old dude would've gotten nothing short of an A+.
But I dunno if he would've been in Nebraska at the time; maybe he headed operations in a blue state.
Anyway, the sparkling old dude is a gifted raconteur, a great story-teller, with the gift of gab.
I'd really like to meet him, to hear his racy stories about personages on the rough streets of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Navy poohbahs, celebrities in the food-service industry, and personalities associated with the d'Alessandro crime family of Baltimore and San Francisco.
I'll bet he could tell some great stories, and wish he'd tell them to us, rather than ranting about politics.
