She went to a store we have in downtown Austin called Oddities. She bought some ducklings...dead ducklings.
She named them Loki and Thor. She is going to make helmets for them.

Haha! I simply do not know how to respond to this. It's not often that I am speechless. They're real? Any other strange behaviors you're noticing of the young one? :rotf:

She has always been an odd one. She found a dead lizard the other day. She brought it home and wanted to "articulate" it. So she soaked it in peroxide but once all the skin and stuff was off it she figured out that it was too small to "articulate".
By the way, she isn't odd as in killing small pets or anything. She isn't going to become a serial killer. :p

BEG, check out this blog: thebloggess.com.

Don't feel too bad, BEG. Yesterday I was working out at the physical therapy place. My PT had just returned from Europe with a trip with his mom and brother.
I asked how the trip went. He said that his brother's luggage never arrived. They were all upset. Seems mommy was in a container---her ashes, that is. I wasn't sure how to take it. He said his mom was so sick, but had always wanted to go to England and Ireland, so they decided to take mommy in a vase with them. And she was lost. Eeeek

They're kinda cute - for being dead and all.
-
OMG! they were real then stuffed? or they're fake?

Real and stuffed.

Real and stuffed.
That would freak me out, but they are kind of cute and they're living in a nice home.

That would freak me out, but they are kind of cute and they're living staying in a nice home.
And they don't eat much nor leave a mess.

You got me on this one. That's EXACTLY where my mind went. ;)
Totally kidding.

Turn'em into helicopters.
-
How about getting her a nice entomologist's kit? Sounds like she'd enjoy that. All kidding aside, she might have a talent and bent toward the biological sciences to be encouraged--not in any extreme, overparenting way, just by getting her the right tools and turning her loose.

How old is she, Helmets may be a good way to go, and unusual as some people look for the different and unexpected.
Actually the interest in taxidermy go back hundreds of years. It has become an art and very profitable business.
Any of you deer hunters out there had to pay to get a deer head mounted for display in your home ???? Anyone know the cost of having just a fish preserved from big mouth Bass to Sword fish ???
Teddy Roosevelt became an expert on taxidermy in his youth and so was ---As I heard, George Washington----
The interest in taxidermy may lead your daughter into a medical field, art, or the field of Veterinarians.
So your daughter may if young loose interest in dead animals, this may be just a one time thing for her.
Don't panic here, for the youths interests come and go, some may be just a whimsy as putting hats on dead ducks.

She has shown interest in taxidermy but not seriously. I always felt she would make a great vet because she shows a huge interest in animals and not afraid to handle anything from snakes to large dogs and is rather good in biology. She will mess with the growths on our older dog and pick off tick/fleas if they happen to have any. In class she was not squeamish when having to dissect animals.
She doesn't seem interested in the whole vet thing though. Instead she is going to college (Ringling) for game design.

Oh, she is 18 Vesta.

Get her a job on the Show "Oddities".

You love the little furball--admit it, Chris!

Ringling is a great school. Sarasota is a nice town (I grew up there), but Ringling isn't necessarily in the best part. I'm sure SLW would be better at telling you what's up with the area nowadays.

She will be living on campus but I'm still really nervous. My son went to Cleveland Instutue of Art on Case Westerns campus, it was in a scary part of town. His last rental house was on the edge of what looked like a neighborhood of crack dens. I didn't see it until he graduated, if I would have seen it before he would not have been living there.

That reminds me of my neighborhood at NC State.
It was always an adventure.

The thing is, the neighborhood could be really beautiful. Full of old huge houses from around the 1930's (at least that is my guess about the period). Instead it is full of rundown houses with people sitting on the porches 24/7 and people walking down the street in PJ's scratching their ass.
-
Exactly :couch:
There were homeless people, prostitutes, bars, perpetually unemployable middle-aged alchoholics, drug addits, and college students with their parents' money all sharing the same neighborhood. It was a mess.

Loki is a prankster.....

BEG, it's the artistic daughter isn't it? My daughter is just like that. She finds the weirdest stuff ...
KC

^^yeah that. I think it's adorable in a kinda creepy way.

Oh, she is 18 Vesta.
A wonderful age for ideas to take flight. Into the possible and leaving behind the childhood of the improbable behind.
Never know when on where a 18 year old will go, what fun , the child may go into the military to work with the animals that guard us and help with science, who knows where an interest or accidental meeting with another will lead them.
Very scary for the parent, what road will an 18 year old go down, will they go off in directions that are not good for them, will they head off into a direction that takes your breath away ???
Imagine a child that ignores the peers of the day and heads off into the world of life that we ourselves never imagined for ourselves.
18 years old. when I was that age there were few females in the police, none in the fire department. Few College teachers in Science, or female Doctors.
You are so lucky to have a daughter that can go anywhere and do anything she wishes, just takes dedication and very hard work.
Woman do not end up accidentally in interesting jobs, most start as an interest as a child. One if encourage in an interest, not forced, just encouraged may find this is their life's work and even if never becomes famous for their work will be proud of their work and acknowledge the parents and family for the encouragement to do so.
Beg, make helmets for those ducks, can be done with pet hair, surprise your daughter.

Yeah, the neighborhood around GT was never all that great either.
Then again, the main drags outside most military bases pretty much suck too.
