Oh I could never pick one. I like roast beef on rye with swiss cheese though. I make that one a lot at home. It's my fave home sandwich. But then you can't beat a good chicken salad sandwich. Then there's BLT. Oh and a club. Or a plain 'mater sandwich with mayo. See? Can't decide! :)

I must have made a hundred of those when I worked in kitchens and I still love them.

Frying makes everything better.

I like a good Cuban pressed thin with crispy toasted crust.

Or a Reuben.  Definitely a Reuben.

Cafe Brazil's Grilled Cheese and Tomato.  Asiago, Cheddar, Monterrey Jack and Feta with Tomato on thick Sourdough bread, served with Rosemary Potatoes, and a hot cup of coffee after a very long night of beers, and a shot or two.

Quick sandwich at home--roast beef with horseradish sauce.

Sandwich out--there's a deli in Hampton Falls that makes a totally KILLER capicola and provolone sandwich with the hot peppers, oil and vinegar...oh, my...heaven.  I take some of the capicola and provelone, put it on sourdough in the George Foreman grill...oh baby, oh baby...

I'd order one with extra bacon, then fish out the extra strip and conveniently drop it right at the entrance.  :-)

One of my mothers plain homemade pimento cheese sandwiches would suit me.

 :hi5:

So many good sandwiches named already, many I love here, but you hit it for me, Tank--REAL, genuine, cooked-by-Philly-cheese-steak-fry-cooks IN Philadelphia cheesesteaks. There are plenty of great places, too---most of the time you don't have to seek out some special place. I mean, I doubt too many people every heard of Billybob's, but they make a damn good cheesesteak. It just has to be in Philly, and generally not too gussied up. Melted cheeze wiz is still the best cheese topping.

With fried onions and ketchup. Make mine a cheesesteak hoagie, that is, with lettuce and a few other cold toppings (eg, pepper rings) on top.

Oh, it seems that Billybob's is detouring fropm its great just-plain-cheesesteaks route. Too bad.

I was there when Billybob's opened; it was just another place but good.

Quote

Many in the area lament that greasy-yet-satisfying Billybob is planning to go upscale. A 40th Street landmark, it was a coveted establishment which defied the town-gown boundary, where students and West Philadelphians alike waited and mingled in lines that twisted out the door and around the block, where the only identification needed to enter was an order greasier than the last. Now, as the 15-year-old Billybob gets set to transform into the upscale "Best Of International Cafe,"

WTF? Billybob's is A LOT older than 15 years! It's at least 26 years old.

Other  than  the above mentioned Philly Cheesesteak in Philly, at Geno's,  my preference  is a good  ole New  Orleans  (or  any decent shop  in  South Louisiana) Oyster Po-Boy... about a dozen fried oysters on a french  bread loaf,  mayo  and ketchup only,  thanx... heaven and a  vein clogger in  one simple  sandwich!!!

Actually, just about any po-boy in a  crunch,  especially a  roast beef!!!

A Rueben with spicy mustard added.

Hot pastrami and melted swiss on untoasted rye (no seeds) spicy mustard, lettuce and tomato.

Tuna fish (white albacore packed in water) with mayo, on an Italian sub roll, with shredded lettuce, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar, and lots of pepper and a bit of salt. Otherwise mixed with mayo, dill pickle relish, salt and pepper on stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth white bread.

Grilled cheese (2 slices of velveeta), with slices of vidalia onion and tomato.

Really good chicken salad - no nuts or fruit - on a croissant, with mayo, lettuce and tomato.

I had never had fruit or nuts in it, until I moved to the South.

I make mine the way my grandmother did.....chicken, chopped onion, celery, and mayo. I add parsley, salt, pepper, and a bit of cayenne and garlic powder. About as basic as you can get.  :-)

They make it that way up in Minnesota, at least the stuff one gets from the grocery stores. I never had chicken salad with fruits and/ or nuts in it until I moved to Minnesota.

It seems to be the "gourmet" way these days. Don't know if it started in the south or maybe out in California where there are lots of fruits and nuts ( :evillaugh: ).

If I want fruit with my chicken salad, I want it next to it on the plate or in a bowl. Not mixed in it. Nuts belong in apple (Waldorf) salad, not chicken!

I didn't know people messed with Waldorf salad so much either, until my step-mother entered my life. My mother made it real simple....crispy hard apples, pecans, celery, raisins and mayo. My step-mother's mother came over to Council Bluffs Iowa from Denmark....she added red and green grapes, marshmallows, and BANANAS to it!!! The grapes were ok, the marshmallows were tolerable. The BANANAS were just WRONG!!!!! Leftovers looked so gross!!!  :puke:

Mayo and fruit are a no-go.  JMHO.

They are kind of nasty together.  :-)

I do a marinade of OJ, white Karo syrup, Triple Sec, and Rose's lime juice, that I put over fresh fruit. The citrus keeps it from turning color, and the Triple Sec gives it a bit of a kick.  :-)  I mix cream cheese, white powdered sugar, a bit of whipping cream, vanilla and cinnamon for dipping fruit.

That sounds good.  My Grandmother, God rest her blessed soul, would take pear halves, put them on a lettuce leaf, put mayo in the middle, and pecans on the top.  Oh how I hated every bite.  But I ate it.  You always ate what you were served.  And no faces either!

My mother did that too!!! Canned peaches or pears.  :puke: If it wasn't mayo, it was cottage cheese.

There was many a night I was still sitting at the table an hour later, because I hadn't eaten the darn thing. I know she switched from paper napkins to cloth, just so I couldn't wrap it up in a napkin.  :(  But I did learn to cram it in my mouth, and hit the bathroom after.....somehow, looking back on it, now, I'm sure she knew I was doing that.  :uhsure:  Sorry, Mommy.

None for me, thanks. I'd rather have the pears right out of the can. Screw the mayo and cheese. As for pb&b, I've heard of the mayo angle on those, but I don't think I'm game for that either.

Mayo - used sparingly, it can stop a heart in 2.36 decades, give or take a few weeks.  :-)

Don't get me wrong - I'll have mayo on a sandwich or in potato salad or in chicken salad in a NY Yankee minute. And I love a nice, sharp cheddar.

Just not with fruit - especially canned pears.

When my mom was out of town when I was little, my dad would make me a banana-mayo sandwich or a pineapple-mayo sandwich. I still could puke thinking of it. I am not a big mayo fan anyway. Just a little on my burgers and sandwiches, and I'm good. Enough for some moisture. I also don't like fruit in my chicken salad. I guess I don't like to mix sweet with nasty mayo.

Since I've been on this diet, I've been eating small curd cottage cheese (regular, not low fat) with fresh blueberries, or sliced fresh strawberries. It's good. No syrupy sweetness.

I don't eat peanut butter.  I went on strike from peanuts and peanut butter when Carter won the election.  I was so upset Ford didn't win because I had his autograph.  (I WAS A YOUNG KID)  I would refuse to look at the house when I drove by, because I thought it turned into a peanut.  Anyway, that peanut strike moved into a dislike of em.

Twenty plus years later, and I have had an occasional peanut here and there, because I decided I could stop the strike.  Now I just don't like em.  I do like Almond and Cashew butter though.  I don't have the wallet for that.

Favorite sandwich ..

A long crusty white bread roll , sliced in half, buttered and then loaded with proscuito, dijon mustard, tomato and a very sharp extra mature cheese (I've been known to use shaved Parmesan in a pinch). Heavy dose of salt and pepper.
