Misspelled sign may have cost high school principal her job
Quote
http://news.yahoo.com/misspelled-sign-paterson-nj-school-principal-141949588.html

A principal has been reassigned after a misspelled sign was displayed for more than a week outside a New Jersey public high school.

The message on the sign above the entryway to Paterson’s Public School Number 20 included three mistakes: December was spelled "Dicember," report as "reepor" and a "1" was placed backwards.

The errors drew the ire of school Paterson Board of Education member Corey Teague, who saw a photo of the misspelled sign on Facebook....

"How can we expect our children to learn how to spell when the administration can't?" Teague wrote. "We must be held to a higher standard.”

1. I just read a news story that someone was given the "Last Rights" by a priest.

NBC Los Angeles, no less.

probably not revelant or something.

On several occasions I returned school announcements to my sons' elementy and middle schools with misspeliings corrected in red.

Several years aog, my older son's 8th grade language arts teacher pronounced "poignant" just the way it was spelled - poyg-nant. Gads!

Shit, you can't make this stuff up.

4. If they had a budget, then that should have been the job of the maintenance staff.

Did someone hold the ladder as per OSHA regulations while she set the letters? Maybe she shouldn't have been tasked with that.

This primitive's solution to a crappy government goon is more funding, and to hire another crappy government goon.

6. It doesn't seem like she should be

tasked with anything that has to do with educating kids.

Of course.  But that doesn't mean we have to take her off the payroll, right?  Right??

9. Some years ago

my friends got their kids into reading by paying them a nickel for each spelling or grammar error they found in the local newspaper. Homophones earned a dime.

Now those kids are grown and are teaching their own kids using the same method and the same pay rate. Happily for the kids but sadly for the state of our newspapers, their weekly pay is quite good.

By all means, show your friend's kids this page, and let them make a fortune:  http://reportingsandiego.com/author/nadinabbott/

Probably just a typo, but then there's this...

Proofreading doesn't seem to be a strong point either.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

I take it as a point of personal pride to proofread not only my posts here (not always the best), but all of my emails, and texts.  I do not spk txt at all.  So, my texts are in the American version of the Queen's English--and I proofread those, too.

If someone else doesn't want to do said things, that's their problem--not mine.
"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of Liberty." - Thomas Jefferson

"All you have to do is look straight and see the road, and when you see it, don't sit looking at it - walk!" -Ayn Rand

"Those that trust God with their safety must yet use proper means for their safety, otherwise they tempt Him, and do not trust Him.  God will provide, but so must we also." - Matthew Henry, Commentary on 2 Chronicles 32, from Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible

"These anti-gun fools are more dangerous to liberty than street criminals or foreign spies."--Theodore Haas, Dachau Survivor

Chase her even when she's yours.
That's the only way you'll be assured to never lose her.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948
