Quote
LOS ANGELES –  Sony Pictures announced Tuesday it had scrapped the Dec. 25 release of "The Interview" after a number of major movie chains announced they would not show the film in the wake of threats from unknown hackers implying the theaters were at risk.

Sony released a statement saying, "In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film The Interview, we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release. We respect and understand our partners' decision and, of course, completely share their paramount interest in the safety of employees and theater-goers."

As of Wednesday AMC Entertainment, Regal Cinemas, Cineplex and Cinemark had opted to drop the movie after the hackers issued threats that implied the theaters showing the movie were terror targets. According to TMZ, Bow Tie Cinemas also canceled planned showings of the movie.

Sony, thy name is cowardice
Can you blame them after threats to attack theaters? Suppose they show the movie and someone sets off a bomb.

There's no such thing as bad press(hype).
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

Everything I've read on the web this morning has two items to report -

Every theater showing it has been packed - as a protest against North Korea!

Every movie reviewer says it's terrible/horrible/awful

The producers are laughing all the way to the bank!    :rotf:

If that was the plan all along then this was the most brilliant and cynical marketing campaign of all time (and I am not counting that out).
