Oh my.

The cbayer primitive's favorite vegetable.

The primitives are s-o-o-o-o-o-o boring, so obsessed with race, so impulsive about making racist comments, that I sought refuge--for the second day in a row--in the cooking and baking forum.

What is your favorite way to prepare kale?

Ok guys, give me your favorite kale concoctions!

I just eat mine mixed in with some spinach leaves and poppyseed dressing. Nothing fancy!

For those who don't know, kale is simply crumpled-up lettuce.

First up, Ms. Paul von Hindenburg:

1. I like it best stemmed, chopped and dried in a low oven

I eat it out of hand, sprinkle it on baked potatoes and salads. The drying seems to tame the flavor somewhat.

I can tolerate it rinsed, chopped, and dumped into a skillet where garlic and red pepper flakes have flavored some olive oil. I cover it tightly and keep it over low heat for 10 minutes, turn the heat off and let it steam for another 5-10 minutes.

I'm not really nuts about greens in general but I like kale better than I like spinach. I can eat spinach in things like spinach pie and soups, but don't try to feed me a dish of it by itself, thanks.

2. chips and smoothies

kale chips - raw leaves rubbed with oil, balsamic vinegar and nutritional yeast, then baked til crispy.

smoothies - mango or banana, some raw kale (or collard or turnip greens or spinach) and some kind of juice or almond milk, maybe protein powder, peanut butter, tahini or flax meal. I make a quart size smoothie like that and have it every M-F for my lunch.

3. My favorite is sauteed in olive oil,,,,

I do garlic, shallots or green onions, mushrooms all separately first then the kale and add the other stuff back in,,,, sometimes I stir in cooked rice and then add some cold chopped tomatoes too.

4. Don't ever prepare it--my husband is on coumadin

Kale and spinach have way too much Vitamin K, which interferes with the drug action. I like the chips and sautes when eating out, though.

Warfarin (also known by the brand names Coumadin, Jantoven, Marevan, Uniwarfin) is an anticoagulant normally used in the prevention of thrombosis and thromboembolism, the formation of blood clots in the blood vessels and their migration elsewhere in the body respectively. Warfarin is commonly but incorrectly referred to as a blood thinner.

It was initially introduced in 1948 as a pesticide against rats and mice and is still used for this purpose, although more potent poisons such as brodifacoum have since been developed. In the early 1950s, warfarin was found to be effective and relatively safe for preventing thrombosis and thromboembolism in many disorders.

It was approved for use as a medication in 1954 and has remained popular ever since; warfarin is the most widely prescribed oral anticoagulant drug in North America.

6. I just boil it in a tad of water and salt it.

8. I like adding it to soups

I make this white bean soup and while the beans are boiling I sauté some onions, garlic, ginger and kale. Add some spices (coriander, red pepper, salt, etc.) and some chicken stock and it's perfect for cold winter days.

The best way I know is to wash it real good and put it in the trash can.

Well, Frank, aside from looking like lettuce that's been leading a homeless lifestyle, the other big difference from lettuce is that lettuce doesn't taste like much of anything while kale is bitter and nasty.

I think Johnny's suggestion isn't sufficiently enviro-friendly for the DUmmies, instead they should find an urban chicken farm and donate it to the compost pile.

Best way to prepare kale is to not buy it in the first place.

I picked up a bundle of the stuff the last time I was at the grocery store, out of morbid curiousity.

It looks like sad, soggy lettuce, and tastes like an asshole.

A waste of 98 cents.

I recommend feeding it to the rabbits and chickens then eating them.
"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

Lay it out in the sun on the patio. Birds will eventually come to it, most will die, but enough won't.

Is kale that sad looking leafy thing that is served with the entree at a diner?

I always though, like the toothpicks they use to keep the sandwiches from falling apart, you were not supposed to eat it.
