Cameras for cops

http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/first-read/obama-requests-263-million-police-body-cameras-training-n259161

Quote
The White House has asked for $263 million in funding for police body cameras and training in the wake of the shooting death of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown.

I actually think this minght be a good idea.  It would stop these perpetual "victims" from always accusing the cops. With video evidence things might start showing the cops did everything right.

What say you?

This is part of Emperor Putmos' grand plan to nationalize law enforcement under the control of the Dept of Selective Justice.

If a city or county commission, or a state legislature, decide that body cameras are right for the law enforcement officers they manage, then they should find the funding in their budgets (taxpayer money).

It's not the Federal government's business - see the 10th Amendment.

Only bring in federal funding if the money is taken from welfare. After all it's the Obama base that benefits from both things.

I was really talking more about all cops having cameras.  Not really Obama.  Sorry I didn't make myself clear.  :bawl:

I think the cops should have something similar to Go Pro cameras too.  Dash cams helped a lot, but they didn't go far enough, imo.

It sure would have helped Wilson.  I don't see a problem with cops having them.  They use dash-cams.

I think GoPro should do some sort of promotion and get those cameras on every officer and 360 degrees on cop cars.  Every angle covered.  I'm sick of not knowing what really happened.

Agree with Big Dog. It's a community decision, paid for by the community -- NOT the feds.

Barry just wants more and more control for the federal government. It's what statists do.

That said, I believe there are enough f'n cameras on the streets as it is. Everybody's got their gd cell phones out taking photos and video. Everybody's got to document every facet of their lives.

The fact there wasn't a cell phone camera running at the time Brown was showing his ass is a one-off.

To paraphrase George Carlin: "Don't people just LOOK at stuff anymore without recording it? Are people so shallow that they have to document everything they do, then take it home? Do they find it necessary to watch again what they just taped themselves doing?"

Gina, I think copcams are great. Video evidence of lying shitbags at the scene would convict more of them than unsupported testimony. I would have worked the shit out of on-scene video of drunk driving stops, domestics, fight calls, and drug interdictions.

It's just not the business of the Federal government to put its nose in state or local government.

Liberals are pushing for the cameras, but if they get their wish, they'll find out it bites them in the ass. (see electronic voting versus paper ballots)

Fine with me, the shitheads they're dealing with already film every damn' thing that looks good for their side.

Bad cops will find a way around it.

and the Fergusons out there will not stop. The protesters are ignoring the facts now, what makes you think they will believe a video when it goes against mob mentality?

Remember Occupy? They filmed everything with their phones. If a cop just looked at them wrong, the Occupiers would fall to the ground screaming in pretend pain. Fakers will be out to get innocent cops fired with cheap tricks and simple props.

I think police should have body cams, though without strings to the Obama "Justice" department. I look forward to the day a nascent Ferguson is proved to be another false accusation ... that's when the grandstanding race-baiters demanding the body cams will start denouncing police body cams as racist.

True on all counts. What's more is who are those people going to trust, sworn testimony or their lying eyes.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

The cameras are not peanuts, but the big cost is in the storage-and-server farm that would be necessary to store and be able to access that much high quality video for however many years it might be needed. That might be the way the Federal camel is trying to get its nose inside local PDs' tent.

Body cams are still new technology. I think the next steps will be  wireless transmission, remote control, and geolocating- all ripe for Federal intrusion into local law enforcement in the name of 'civil rights.'

I pity the poor bastard at the sheriff's office who has to review the always-on footage of bathroom breaks, and every burp and fart as the deputies are driving.

Yeah, but they're already doing that, having an additional camera from the cop's POV that they can't edit or delete content from looks like it would help the police more than hurt them.
