I know that most of you guys probably think that I'm nuts...

After all, I've suggested that blue voters move into red districts in order to defeat GOP gerrymandering: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025765041

However, if anyone has any better ideers, I'll all ears.

Islands of blue in a sea of red...

Ladies and gentleman… This is a map of Democrats winning an election.

(Map of 2008 prez election by counties)

ONLY a presidential election, one in which we out voted the Republicans by roughly 9 1/2 million votes. However, if you're trying to have Democratic control of Congress with a map that looks like this, you're pretty much ****ed.

This tells us two things… There's more of us than there are of them and we're all bunched up together in tightly constructed clusters, while they're all spread out like a mother****er.

This shouldn't be any new to any of us. It's pretty obvious what the problems are and what the solutions are.

- Gerrymandering: While Republicans control state houses, where going to have gerrymandering. However, redistricting only happens after a ten year period, i.e., post census.

I suggest that Democrats and liberals start moving into the red areas of the country. I'm not suggesting that people move en masse into Idaho. **** that noise. However, by these blue area, there are fringes of red which may be almost indistinguishable to the blue areas right next to them.

I live in such an area myself. When I moved back into a new place a couple of years ago, I could have easily moved out of the 10th Congressional District with a Republican congress critter, into the 9th which is safely Democratic. But I decided to stay here. It takes me less that 10 minutes to walk from one district to the next, so culturally, socially and just about every single measure, there really is no difference between the two where I am.

I live in a relatively diverse area; people here vote locally for Democrats, there are union supporters here and just about everyone hates Republicans. But due to the structure of this district, the vast majority of voters are just north of here and are comprised of mostly white, Republican voting ignoramuses.

I can't see any other way to solve this problem than to take what they have away from them, their overwhelming majority in the widest areas of the country.

Yes, I know that I'm suggesting a lot. But, just a slight demographic shift could mean a lot until the next round of reapportionment. If we're going to get back control of Congress, a shitload of us are just going to have to move out of our comfort zones and physically invade Red America.

Either we do this, or we concede most of the land mass to those assholes.

Hard to imagine having that stupid of a thought, much less publicizing it for reasonable people to read and laugh at.

No forethought on his part whatsoever. From the money it would take to do this to who would decide who moves and who doesn't.... it boggles the mind. And the thought that people are going to decide where to live based upon politics?

:lmao: :mental:  He expects people to go through the tremendous disruption of moving their families and belongings just because Mrs Corpio told them to?  Put the house on the market and everything?  What about when they get there and have to face all those teabagging neighbors?  Damn!  Why did I listen to Pineapple Head?

Mr. Scorpio, the reason you Dummies are clustered is because you all live in the failure factories run by your liberal overlords.  They keep you poor and oppressed, so you keep voting for them in waves.  I don't foresee the Democrats controlling the House in the next 20 years since we all witnessed what they did when they were in power.  *cough* Obamacare * cough*

I did the opposite... I moved from a dependably red district to one run by Old Baldy.  We're that blue turd floating in the middle of an entire state of red (excluding Shelby County).
If you want to worship an orange pile of garbage with a reckless disregard for everything, get on down to Arbys & try our loaded curly fries.

22. I've had that idea for decades. Although my idea decades ago was

environmental. I thought the way to stop destructive lumbering, stream pollution and other ecologically damaging practices by local and homogenous populations who didn't know any other way was for a bunch of tree huggers to move in and tip the balance of power.

I can see how this strategy would be useful politically too. Maybe it's time for liberals to start moving into red states in the south and mid-west to do this. A big problem would be to figure out how these folks are going to make a living in those places.
It just might work...but it would mean having to get a job.  Unworkable.

36. I did that

it is a slow process but when I moved here we had no Democratic Party in the county. Now we actually have dems that run for office. They lose but at least it's a start and we have a dem party organization now in the county.
Maybe it will work after all,  if what gwhezzie says is true and DUmmies multiply like bacteria after just one of them infects a red area.
We will make America strong again. We will make America proud again. We will make America safe again. And we will make America great again.

The northern blue rats are moving into the upper end of my county and slowly changing the political color of it. The only bright spot is, they're to old to breed.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

Why, the simple solution is that they get jobs cutting down trees, polluting streams and doing other ecologically destructive stuff in the area they move to.

Problem solved.
