Tomas Young saved me from myself.

From the moment the Supreme Court decision came down in 2000 that gifted the White House to Bush, to the moment he was finally and forever out of power, I resisted him and his works, because I knew what he represented, what he was about, and what he was doing to my beloved country. My instincts were finely honed, and I gave probably a million words - in print, and spoken aloud on the road for some 800,000 miles - to the cause of thwarting him and everything he stood for.

And now? Now I'm suddenly wondering where that guy has been. He sure as hell isn't the one I see in the mirror. He lapsed into a moral coma, lulled by his idea of America and by the election of someone who can talk the birds out of the trees even as the lumberjacks clear-cut the forest.

*Long boring whine in which Pitt admits to being duped by The One.*

I mean to face the stranger in the mirror tomorrow, and so I must acknowledge my own culpability in all this. I am to blame; I went to sleep, because I have an idea of America that I cling to desperately, and so I bought into the soothing nonsense of *cosmetic change even as the sound of the same old gears ground on around me.

I am sorry.

I still believe in that idea.

And I am awake.

*An obvious racist dog whistle

Poll: Americans Want GOP Congress, Not Obama, to Set National Agenda

Times have changed. A new Gallup poll finds that a large majority of Americans would like the Republican-controlled Congress, rather than President Obama, to set the direction for the country in the coming year, a marked change from 2012, when a slim majority said they preferred for Obama to guide the agenda.....

I'm mystified as to who this "Tomas Young" is, who saved the Bostonian Drunkard; I've never heard of him.

So I had to nadin him.

Here ya go:

Quote
Tomas Young (November 30, 1979 – November 10, 2014) was an American military veteran of the Iraq War. He was paralyzed by a bullet to the spine while deployed in Iraq. One of the first veterans to come out publicly against the war, he spent most of his life after the war protesting. Young's conditions worsened due to various medical complications and he chose to go on hospice care, awaiting his death.[1] He later reversed that decision.[2]

Come on Chris. That's not all he did. He also bitched on the internet a lot and used Pittian.dots. Plus he brought us within 24 business hours of frog marching someone.

And didn't he once knock a brick out of the park with his head?

I would like to propose a quick exercise for the decent and civilized people of CC.  I am going to juxtapose two of William's posts and ask observers to pick which one is most likely going to echo Wee William's words as the 2016 General Election approaches.

First up is the one that started this thread:

Now I'm suddenly wondering where that guy has been. He sure as hell isn't the one I see in the mirror. He lapsed into a moral coma, lulled by his idea of America and by the election of someone who can talk the birds out of the trees even as the lumberjacks clear-cut the forest.

The issue is the fact that it doesn't matter a tinker's damn who sits in that fine round room. I believe Mr. Obama to be a better man than his predecessor, and if we had ham, we could have ham and eggs, if we had eggs.

I am finished with the moral geometry that says this is better than that, which makes this good.

I mean to face the stranger in the mirror tomorrow, and so I must acknowledge my own culpability in all this. I am to blame; I went to sleep, because I have an idea of America that I cling to desperately, and so I bought into the soothing nonsense of cosmetic change even as the sound of the same old gears ground on around me.

Next is this little gem from almost 7 years ago:

I don't support any one candidate.

I support all of them.

Every Democratic candidate, armed with a friendly congressional majority...

All of them.

As a tribute to the politics of the load Jane should have swallowed, please vote as many times as you wish.   :-)
