Texas Abortion Regulator Says It Will Not Honor Town’s Vote To Ban Abortion

On Tuesday, the town of Denton, Texas, voted by a wide margin to ban abortions within the city limits. Two days later, the chairwoman of Texas’ abortion regulator said she would not honor the ban.

Texas Abortion Commission Chairwoman Christi Craddick told the Dallas Morning News that she would continue giving permits to doctors seeking to perform abortions in Denton. Craddick asserted she could override the ban because Denton does not have authority over abortion activity in the state.

“It’s my job to give permits, not Denton’s,” Craddick said. “We’re going to continue permitting up there because that’s my job.”

Abortion — the process of injecting water, sand and chemicals in a uterus to extract unborn children — has a long history in Denton, one of the most heavily-abortioned towns in Texas. At the same time, residents have complained of liberal assholes trying to tell them what they can and can't do.

Except hold on - that isn't the article, which DU would have thrown parties over. It was really about fracking, and the state telling Denton it sets the laws, thanks very much. DU doesn't seem to like THAT outcome very much:

On Tuesday, the town of Denton, Texas, voted by a wide margin to ban fracking within the city limits. Two days later, the chairwoman of Texas’ oil and gas regulator said she would not honor the ban.

Texas Railroad Commission Chairwoman Christi Craddick told the Dallas Morning News that she would continue giving permits to oil and gas companies seeking to frack in Denton. Craddick asserted she could override the ban because Denton does not have authority over drilling activity in the state.

“It’s my job to give permits, not Denton’s,” Craddick said. “We’re going to continue permitting up there because that’s my job.”

Fracking — the process of injecting water, sand and chemicals underground to extract oil and gas from shale formations — has a long history in Denton, one of the most heavily-fracked towns in Texas. At the same time, residents have complained of poor air quality, disruptive noise in residential areas, and an increase in low-magnitude earthquakes.

Wow that had me going like the first time I read Duffleblog.

I was reading that going "I went to school with her...I know her politics there's no way she'd do that."

Then I scrolled down some more and I was like 

Her dad represents my home town (Midland).
