What happened to space opera?

Until now we have always had space opera shows on TV. Why don't we see shows like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica anymore? Did the network execs decide the genre was dead? What killed TV sci fi/space opera? Reality television?

Honey Boo Boo in Space

It's not a TV show. Just shoot them into space.
