Helpless DUmpmonkie is helpless about run'd over mailbox
« on: October 05, 2014, 07:15:29 PM »
Before we begin let us go over the facts of the case:

Mailbox gets run the **** over...

First- its a DUmpmonkie.
Second- the crime is Felony Hit and Run.
Third- unless you live in a small town trying to find a car with the discription and a partial license plate is hopeless.

Someone hit my mailbox with their car and drove off.
My question: If a person damaged your property with their car and drives off and a witness did see it,
if the witness reported to the police, do the police go see the person who
is accused or wait for them to come forward?
I was not home. My neighbor saw the car and has some of the license. We went to the police and have gotten no response yet.
Thank you for anyone who can help.

3. Call your postmaster.

It is a felony to destroy a mailbox... so I am sure the Post Master General will send out a swarm of Postal Police to nab the criminal!

4. I don't know how true it is, but I remember told years ago when I was a kid that a mailbox becomes the property of the federal government. Damaging a mailbox is considered damaging federal property. Again, I don't know how true that is. But it does make sense.

It's not damage to federal property it's obstructing the mail service.
Let's take Oregon for example- a pretty leftist leaning state:

The formal term under Oregon law is Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver When Persons or Property are/is injured/damaged.  If it is not called by the slang term of Hit and Run, these crimes are abbreviated as “FPDD.”

It does not matter who was at fault in the accident – if someone breaks a traffic law and runs into you, you are still required to stop and exchange information.  It also does not matter if the property is another vehicle or not.  The state will charge FPDD if someone runs over a bush, or knocks over a mailbox, or hits a power pole and does not stay around.

8. That happens to us once a year. My SIL gets a new mailbox. We do report it to the police and the Post Office, but in twenty years no one has been found to hold accountable and pay for the damage.

18. Our mailboxes get hit about once a year too.
Some dummy going too fast around the curve, hits our mailboxes.
There are 5 of them mounted on a steel barrel full of concrete.
Suffice to say, it takes a LOT to knock it over, and we find car parts around the mailbox the next day.

I just wonder what the DUmpmonkie thought he was going to get when he posted this?

Too bad it wasn't the DUmbass being run over instead of the poor mail box.

I would always let people know if I accidentally damaged their property.

The only exception: I will never stop after hitting an animal, unless the car is too damaged to drive.

I don't want to be bitten, and I'm not interested in suing the irresponsible pet owner.

Why doesn't the Dummy call Holder?  I'm sure he would be happy to send out a swat team or two, especially if the mailbox was painted black.

I live at the end of a long road, and once somebox stole my entire mailbox, post and all.

The cops might help this Dummy if they had a full license plate number, but they're just going to file this one away. If another mailbox is damaged it the area by a car with the same description, they might cross-check.

We end up replacing our mailbox every couple of years. I live out in the country and it gets hit by tractors trying to let car drivers pass them. I've never even thought about it being a crime, just the price of living in the country.

Snow plows take them down every winter. -Especially on long, straight roads where the plow can get up to speed. The tidal wave of snow coming off the blade is more than they can handle.

Strange little beasties the Mailbox.   Only thing I ever had to pay money to buy  for  the convenience to get a Federal worker to come to my home to deliver good or bad news.

---Through rain and snow and dark of night----- and the Post man rings twice.            Some people still have the old mail slots in their front door, beautiful old oak doors hard to find today, well worth the price but useless for mail delivery as the postal Union said the bending down for the mail men put a strain on their back.

Onward to the little black box next to the front door, last time I had one of these was in the late 70's  in the south and the mail man on foot tried to sell me pot.

RFD, now we had that in Tennessee when we lived in the boonies. Had to have a road side mail box and it was kept free of plants of any kind.   No Flowers or weeds that drew in the bugs--hornets, bees or chiggers, no loose dogs or mean male Goats to charge the mail trucks.

Up here the old road side mail boxes are going out of quite fast, the dirt roads that lead to summer camps and more and more winterized year long homes no longer advertise they live there for any amount of time, not often one out exploring will find a road off to the side with mail boxes with the name of the owners a tip off to the ugly that there may be pickings just down the road.

Today we in our village have a shed with mail boxes for the 300 or so home owners.     We have had our box broken into a few times so we also have everything important  sent to a PO box  at the town post office.

This doesn't mean anyone of us is safe, we got by mistake a neighbors insurance  re new that could have cost him his home.

Then remember the days of the black bordered envelopes,  and the every now and then news story about someone receiving a  letter from their father 30 years ago that just got lost somewhere and finally showed up.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard there's a small town up here in Vt that actually paints mailboxes on the side of snowplows for their "kills" .

The only solution I see for a DUmmy is: Increase your carbon footprint and drive to get your mail daily at the post office because resetting a post for a mailbox is outside your skill set.  Next step:  Blame Bush.

I would doubt that is true. If a town plow or one of the subcontractors take down a mailbox, the town pays to put it back up/replace it if the homeowner files a complaint. I would think the contractors wouldn't want to ID themselves as they would probably be removed from service - especially if they kept a visible kill tally.

-Definitely a bad P.R. move..

Saw a You Tube video a snow plow driver made while plowing the streets on his route, along with commentary of him hitting parked cars, mailboxes, etc.

His job lasted for 30 minutes after he posted the video.   :lmao:

Omaha Steve? :whistling:

One of our slowly ebbing rights we have left is to receive free of charge 5 pounds of junk mail per week that we after collecting have to pay to have it recycled in special bags we have to also pay for.

Franking privileges  that were given to prisoners and those running for some office, do these rules still exist ?

What is a LVA, ??? I took a look at my bank statements  envelope and saw the postage was paid with a LVA?

I received by mistake mail for a unknown neighbor from the Div of child support SVCS and had no choice but to pin it to the cork board for miss directed mail in the mail shed.  I did notice it costs the state  00,38 cents to send it to
them and perhaps  thousands more.

The art of letter writing has just about gone down the tubes with the  E mail and the cost of stamps, I have no idea what the cost of a stamp, today,   I to send a thank you note or card for birthday or in sympathy for a death in the family, much easier to just upload a so sorry for this or a Wow, Happy birthday.

The wire was the first, the cheap way to send critical mail,   Have Gun will travel, wire etc. The Pony Express  was a great time in our past.  When one considers $20.00 a month wages at the time  spending $5.00 for one letter was of great importance.
