Kucinich to bring single article of impeachment for misleading US into war

Source: Raw Story -- Nick Juliano

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) is sticking to his drive to impeach President Bush.

Few in the House of Representatives have any intention of doing anything with the last 35 articles of impeachment Kucinich set before them last month, so the former presidential candidate appears to be lightening the load. Kucinich sent a letter to colleagues Tuesday asking them to support a single article of impeachment, to be introduced Thursday, which accuses President Bush of leading the country to war based on lies.

"There can be no greater offense of a Commander in Chief than to misrepresent a cause of war and to send our brave men and women into harm's way based on those misrepresentations," Kucinich wrote in the "Dear Colleague" letter.

"There has been a breach of faith between the Commander in Chief and the troops. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 or with Al Qaeda's role in 9/11. Iraq had neither the intention nor the capability of attacking the United States," he continued. "Iraq did not have weapons of Mass of Destruction. Yet George W. Bush took our troops to war under all of these false assumptions. Given the profound and irreversible consequences to our troops, if his decision was the result of a mistake, he must be impeached. Since his decision was based on lies, impeachment as a remedy falls short, but represents at least some effort on our part to demonstrate our concern about the sacrifices our troops have made."

Last month, Kucinich presented 35 articles of impeachment. Those have since been referred to the Judiciary Committee, where they are expected to die. Kucinich threatened to double the number of impeachment articles if the Judiciary Committee did not act...

34. Congress wasn't emasculated by the Executive Branch.

Congress emasculated itself. The administration could never have taken anything from Congress—Congress voluntarily handed over everything. All because they were afraid someone would call them names. And hundreds of thousands of people are dead because of it.

Kucinich, Wexler and Waxman are the only three out of 535 who shouldn't be tarred and feathered. Quite a few should be imprisoned.

I have no personal opinion about DK, but he is wrong and wrong
headed.  Here are the UN resolutions.  That is all the
evidence one needs to determine that SH was a threat, aside
from all the dems that believed he was a threat.  And proof
that he was a threat comes in the form of 550 metric tons of
yellow cake Uranium recently transported to Canada.

UNSCR 1441 - November 8, 2002
Called for the immediate and complete disarmament of Iraq and
its prohibited weapons.
Iraq must provide UNMOVIC and the IAEA full access to Iraqi
facilities, individuals, means of transportation, and
documents.
States that the Security Council has repeatedly warned Iraq
and that it will face serious consequences as a result of its
continued violations of its obligations.

UNSCR 1284 - December 17, 1999
Created the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and
Inspections Commission (UNMOVIC) to replace previous weapon
inspection team (UNSCOM).
Iraq must allow UNMOVIC "immediate, unconditional and
unrestricted access" to Iraqi officials and facilities.
Iraq must fulfill its commitment to return Gulf War
prisoners.
Calls on Iraq to distribute humanitarian goods and medical
supplies to its people and address the needs of vulnerable
Iraqis without discrimination.

UNSCR 1205 - November 5, 1998
"Condemns the decision by Iraq of 31 October 1998 to
cease cooperation" with UN inspectors as "a
flagrant violation" of UNSCR 687 and other resolutions.
Iraq must provide "immediate, complete and unconditional
cooperation" with UN and IAEA inspectors.

UNSCR 1194 - September 9, 1998
"Condemns the decision by Iraq of 5 August 1998 to
suspend cooperation with" UN and IAEA inspectors, which
constitutes "a totally unacceptable contravention"
of its obligations under UNSCR 687, 707, 715, 1060, 1115, and
1154.
Iraq must cooperate fully with UN and IAEA weapons
inspectors, and allow immediate, unconditional and
unrestricted access.

UNSCR 1154 - March 2, 1998
Iraq must cooperate fully with UN and IAEA weapons inspectors
and allow immediate, unconditional and unrestricted access,
and notes that any violation would have the "severest
consequences for Iraq."

UNSCR 1137 - November 12, 1997
"Condemns the continued violations by Iraq" of
previous UN resolutions, including its "implicit threat
to the safety of" aircraft operated by UN inspectors and
its tampering with UN inspector monitoring equipment.
Reaffirms Iraq's responsibility to ensure the safety of UN
inspectors.
Iraq must cooperate fully with UN weapons inspectors and
allow immediate, unconditional and unrestricted access.

UNSCR 1134 - October 23, 1997
"Condemns repeated refusal of Iraqi authorities to allow
access" to UN inspectors, which constitutes a
"flagrant violation" of UNSCR 687, 707, 715, and
1060.
Iraq must cooperate fully with UN weapons inspectors and
allow immediate, unconditional and unrestricted access.
Iraq must give immediate, unconditional and unrestricted
access to Iraqi officials whom UN inspectors want to
interview.

UNSCR 1115 - June 21, 1997
"Condemns repeated refusal of Iraqi authorities to allow
access" to UN inspectors, which constitutes a "clear
and flagrant violation" of UNSCR 687, 707, 715, and 1060.

Iraq must cooperate fully with UN weapons inspectors and
allow immediate, unconditional and unrestricted access.
Iraq must give immediate, unconditional and unrestricted
access to Iraqi officials whom UN inspectors want to
interview.

UNSCR 1060 - June 12, 1996
"Deplores" Iraq's refusal to allow access to UN
inspectors and Iraq's "clear violations" of
previous UN resolutions.
Iraq must cooperate fully with UN weapons inspectors and
allow immediate, unconditional and unrestricted access.

UNSCR 1051 - March 27, 1996
Iraq must report shipments of dual-use items related to
weapons of mass destruction to the UN and IAEA.
Iraq must cooperate fully with UN and IAEA inspectors and
allow immediate, unconditional and unrestricted access.

UNSCR 687.
"Further condemns" Iraq's noncompliance with IAEA
and its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation
Treaty.
Iraq must halt nuclear activities of all kinds until the
Security Council deems Iraq in full compliance.
Iraq must make a full, final and complete disclosure of all
aspects of its weapons of mass destruction and missile
programs.
Iraq must allow UN and IAEA inspectors immediate,
unconditional and unrestricted access.
Iraq must cease attempts to conceal or move weapons of mass
destruction, and related materials and facilities.
Iraq must allow UN and IAEA inspectors to conduct inspection
flights throughout Iraq.
Iraq must provide transportation, medical and logistical
support for UN and IAEA inspectors.

UNSCR 688 - April 5, 1991
"Condemns" repression of Iraqi civilian population,
"the consequences of which threaten international peace
and security."
Iraq must immediately end repression of its civilian
population.
Iraq must allow immediate access to international
humanitarian organizations to those in need of assistance.

UNSCR 687 - April 3, 1991
Iraq must "unconditionally accept" the destruction,
removal or rendering harmless "under international
supervision" of all "chemical and biological
weapons and all stocks of agents and all related subsystems
and components and all research, development, support and

Oh Fredlevin, I knew ye so little.

Facts, like reality, does not float on Skin's island.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Of course he/she will - the holy democratic word is the USA went after Iraq because that's where The President convinced us all that the 9/11 hijackers came from. All of these resolutions had nothing whatsoever to do with the invasion. At all. Ever.  :whatever:

Frankly, I hope he presents his one article exactly as its written here. It seems DK has forgotten that the Iraq War, though part of the GWoT, had nothing to do with Bin Laden. The President never actually made that assertion, its just a fable that's grown on the internet over time.

Once DK goes on record with that, he can get pummeled with it. Oh the joy that will bring to many !

So let me get this straight: The Judiciary Committee blew off the little malignant dwarf and his 35 articles, so his threat is to...send twice as many next time? Why, so he can look twice as stupid? How does he figure sending more is somehow a threat? Moron.

Hats off to the suicide runner posting the UNSCRs. Those and the items outlined in the IWR were more than enough casus belli.

It appears to me that Dennis Kucinich has been already been Well Stoned for a very long time.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948
